There was a problem with my entree so they took it back, comped me for it and gave me my choice of replacement for free. Satisfied overall.
Forced to have pre-theatre menu before 7pm. Unfortunate. but choices were good.
I've been going to Jardinere since they opened 20 years ago. Never disappoints.
Still ..after all of these years -a solid dining destination.
Our favorite place to dine -- and the food was amazing as always! Our server was a little glitchy in terms of rapport and couldn't answer all of our questions (and didn't admit to it). Definitely don't BS about what's on the cheese plate, servers -- just go look at the labels. Still, a great night! And every other service experience we've had there or had that night was off the charts (on the yay end).
Good pre-opera meal but somewhat limited selection
This was my first time with the special pre-opera menu with options for 2 or 3 selections. The service was quicker because of the abbreviated menu but I missed seeing the full menu. But I will agree the timing was good for we opera goers.
Atmosphere is great! Food is spot on, though not quiet spectacular; you're paying for the location and vibe and service. Service was great as well, though there were a couple noticeable gaps. Staff is excellent! Also, the menu we got in the restaurant had more items that the menu online did, which was a nice surprise.
A beautiful restaurant- friendly and excellent service. Food is creative - we’ll prepared and presented and very good. Highly recommend!
Visited for the impossible burger with my mum from Scotland, & were welcomed & treated very well. Were seated in a cosy corner table, service was exceptional with a sommelier serving wine& food was very tasty. Restaurant busy& other food looked well presented.
Very elegant atmosphere. Not an everyday sort of restaurant, but perfect for a special night out. Very well located next to SFJAZZ and other music venues in Civic Center.
Service was delightful, not intrusive. Miyagi oysters could not have been better. My duck breast was a bit dry but the red rice and spices were superb and the confit delicious. The halibut tartar was beautiful, light, and tender. The salmon was perfectly cooked. Looking forward to our next visit.
Great food & service. We tried the impossible meatballs( good) Foi gras was amazing and the pome fritter was really good too. For dinner we had the duck and Wagyu steak which were both delicious!
We had the upside down cake for dessert and loved it!
The location is perfect for so many activities and I love the way they check if you are attending an event to make sure you have plenty of time. Food is always good and waiters explainatin of items on menu are extremely helpful. Always enjoy our dinner.
I thought it was a really good menu for the price. We were celebrating being a year away from getting married, and we went all out. Got a nice bottle of wine oysters the whole deal and it was a very fair price! Would come back for sure!
The food was quite nice, but overpriced. Servings were very small. The atmosphere was lovely and intimate. Service was terrible: despite it not being very busy, and there being several servers, every single interaction took too long - we were waiting before someone offered us a drink; we were waiting before someone took our orders; we were waiting for about 15 minutes to get a second drink; and we were waiting so long for dessert that my cake arrived lukewarm. In a less fancy place, I'd totally not care about these things, but they also didn't let us taste the wine; spilled water when pouring, and didn't wipe it up; and forgot to bring my husband's dessert.
My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary there. We drove from Sacramento specially for having dinner in Jardiniere. We loved this place, great service, great food, great atmosphere. Now We have a new favorite place to celebrate our special occasions. Thank you Jardiniere team for your amazing service!
I have loved patronizing Jardiniere since they opened twenty years ago: excellent food, creatively prepared; perfect location for the opera, symphony, etc.; professional service; accomplished chefs advancing the art of cuisine. This last visit was a bit subpar, but they have proved their mastery many times in the past, so I cannot hold one minor slip-up against them. However, my dear Jardiniere, when I ask for a steak to be done "medium," please don't send it to the table rare. That feels like an insult, as if I don't know what I really want.
See you again soon.
Jardiniere has been my favorite restaurant for a long, long time. When I come the city for the opera or symphony, it is the perfect place for dinner before or after the performance. Yes, it is convenient, but the food is wonderful (they have a great new menu), the atmosphere is that of a Paris bistro, and the wait staff is the best anywhere. Anywhere.
Jardiniere is a very pleasant restaurant, cleverly designed , i love the central well and the lighting.
The service is impeccable, the wine list eclectic and expensive, the menu is refined although not French per se. Yes the chef use French techniques, the king salmon is poached sous-vide for exemple, but the result is contemporary American. Each dish I tried came great and well presented. This place is ideal for dinner before the concert, at the philharmonic or the opera nearby. If you come after the concert, hurry up to order as San Francisco is more like a red neck middle west town for the night life: everything close so early!
A very nice welcome and good cuisine. Very nice place. Will recommend it and return
Welcome was good, seating was poor considering the advanced reservation. We were celebrating a birthday and they seated us in the back corner near the bussing table. Food was good; however, portion size was underwhelming. The supporting waitstaff was excellent, and deserving of the 5% SF tax...however, our main server was uninterested in our experience and needs. We had three (3) full courses, and he never once asked us how our meal was - disappointing. The only saving grace, was they remembered we were celebrating a birthday and brought out a candle light dessert despite no confirmation of the birthday request. Overall, we’d give 3 out of 5 stars.
We went there because it is near Opera house and Symphony hall and it had a good reputation. The service was good . We ordered King Salmon. I am sorry I have to say it was not very impressive. We love Salmon and eat lots so I was little disappointed the Salmon was not much special at all. The salads and dessert were good. I do not mind pay more for special meal but this is just not the case for us. May be we did not order right one so I still recommend to go there but not order Salmon.
Great pre-show menu and meal. Wait staff very helpful. Definitely going back
The waiter was phenomenal!
My girlfriend's salmon was extremely tasty and the presentation was perfect. I had the chicken and while it was very good, it was nothing to write home about. I may be a little bias since I prefer a grilled chicken breast over the way it was cooked by the chef at the restaurant.
The cocktails were definitely worth trying. They were inventive and very, very good.
The ambiance was very nice as well. We had a corner booth and had a great view of the entire restaurant.
All in all, it's an exceptional restaurant and I would highly recommend it to anyone celebrating an anniversary or a special date.
The overall experience was that it was not up to standard: the food was ok, but too fat, the portions were very small (even to European standards, where we are from), it was too expensive. Further it was cold, there was a continuous draft. Service was friendly.
Food was good and the sevice was so thoughtful. We appreciated your caring attention
thank you so much!!!!!! Lee Faberman, for 3 , Thurs sept 27th before Opera
Something has changed since the last time we were here. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to expectations. Entrees were very bland - under seasoned - and although you could tell the ingredients were fresh, they were done a disservice by the kitchen. Appetizers and dessert were better. Wine prices have a much higher mark up than we have seen in a long time. Our server was a little over-caffeinated and edgy, which made us feel strange. We have dined here many times over the years but with all the options out there, this may have been our last. :-( Sorry to see this landmark restaurant go downhill.
Fabulous pre-theatre menu choices for 2 or 3 courses. Servers are extremely professional, unobtrusive. Warm bread salad with juicy heirloom tomatoes and dollops of melted burrata—mmm.
Excellent wine selection by the glass. Great date night!
I thought this was going to be a disappointment because after being seated, I was passed at least 25 times by wait staff who completely ignored me despite my efforts to catch their attention until I was able to get the attention of the sommelier who took my wine order and got my waiter. But from there it went uphill quickly. My Gem Salad was perfection! I don't think I've ever had a salad that tasted so fresh! And the pasta was also delicious. Although I did have to ask twice for my bill .. being in a hurry to catch a lecture across the street by the brilliant Dr. deGrasse Tyson, once presented I pointed out that they had failed to add the glass of wine. The sommelier reviewed the bill, agreed, but then comp'd me the wine because I had waited so long to be served ... and I assume for my honesty. I will definitely be back when I have more time to linger and choose from their full menu.
I was very excited to go to Jardiniere with my husband before a show at Davis Symphony Hall. We had 5:45 reservations and arrived on time. We were seated promptly. Our server came to the table right away and asked if we were going to the 7:30 show and we confirmed we were. He then took our cocktail order. 30 minutes later I flagged him down. We had receieved no cocktails and he hadn't been back to take our dinner order. He appologized profusely and said it was his mistake that he didn't enter the cocktail order. He then took our dinner order. We each ordered the three course pre fix. Our first course arrived before our cocktails. Not great. The food was, as expected, spectacular. Sadly, because of this server's incompetence we weren't able to enjoy our third course becase we had to leave for the show (which, as noted, the server knew we were attending). They did remove the dessert from the bill and gave us some candy as an appology. All-in-all it was a stressful expereince instead of a delightful one. Very dissapointing. Final thought, I felt the decor was dated.
Beautiful spot with amazing menu and excellent service, right across from Davies Symphony Hall. Can’t believe I haven’t been there before. Loved it. Look forward to going back again.
The food was excellent! Service very average. Our waiter (Rob) was very inattentive and aloof. Not impressed. We had a full bottle of wine which poured one time at the end. The rest of the staff did the work.
Very lackluster food. Service NOT what I would expect for the price. Will not be coming here again.
We had the pre theater menu. The food was disappointing. The salads were average. The Sous vide salmon was not a good preparation. Very mushy and tasteless.
I went here with my girlfriend for our anniversary. I had quail, she had wagyu steak and both were excellent. We split warm bread salad and fries as sides, salad was also really good but fries wasn’t great. Service was excellent. The prices are a little too high, but you get a high quality experience for your money.
Wonderful and delicious. Great service. The warm bread salad was really amazing.
This is a great restaurant. The food and ambiance was everything I had hoped. The convenience and quality for a Pre-theater meal is the best in the area. My only complaint was the corkage fee. I expect a corkage fee and with it I expect attention to the bottle and the keeping of our glasses from becoming empty. However at $40 a bottle corkage, I would expect a sommelier to be knowledgable about the wines on the house list but also any other regional wines. He recommended that the 12 year old bottle of Duckhorn not be decanted! Second the waiter who handled the pouring from that point had to asked to replenish the wine in our glasses. Not what I expected for the cost of the corkage.
Wonderful evening. The tasting menu was killer, as was the service and ambiance.
Delicious meal overall, fantastic service in a gorgeous setting. Felt very well taken care of at every point. Highlights were the cocktails, the perfectly shucked oysters, and the starters. The fried quail main was pretty good but the wagyu beef underwhelmed.
