We had 8:45pm reservation..food drives cold at 10:10 pm.
Our out of country guests had awfully bad experience with the service!
Have read multiple reviews on trip advisor and was somewhat hesitant about going there but wanted to give it a try. The ambiance is amazing, very classy, romantic. The service was subpar. My waiter was uninterested in being there. On to the food: kibbeh was bland, tartlets were average, spaghetti a la chittara and halibut underwhelming. Wine selection is extensive but pricey. Overall, it is a classic restaraunt hence it get props from SF gate and SF eater but cuisine is under par for foodies. There are simply too many other restaraunts in SF ahead of Jardiniere for the price
Great waiter, always reliable yummy food, and all is great pre-symphony dinner spot
Everything was perfect.
My favorite San Francisco restaurant - for many years. Thanks for another lovely dining experience! Lois
Went for a special price-fix dinner. Was a little disappointed to see shrimp substituted with only extra veggies for someone with a shellfish allergy. Also was a little sad when my drink was removed with a few sips left, and to be seated en route to the restroom and staff lockers when the restaurant was mostly empty and cozier tables were available. But overall, fantastic food and solid experience.
Disappointing. The service was pretentious and graceless. It seemed a long time before we were greeted by a server after we were seated. Food arrived before wine was poured. When we later poured for each other from the bottle, the sommelier rushed over, not to pour for us (as the deed was done), but actually to frown at us as he lifted the bottle from my husband's hand to return it to its coaster: intrusive, rude, unnecessary. A salad had to be returned to the kitchen after it arrived lacking key ingredients, but its replacement didn't arrive until my husband had finished his own course. Apart from an almond cake, the food was competent but not memorable. The setting is handsome, and the clientele often glamorous, but otherwise Jardinière misses the mark. A more excitingly delicious meal with more gracious service can be had in SF at any number of other, less expensive restaurants.
We have been to Jardinière several times. The food was as wonderful as ever: warm bread salad (the warm bread was in the form of delicious soft croutons), gold rice with an English pea purée or pesto, spinach, poussin with fava greens and wild mushrooms, and the strawberry panna cotta. Delicious.
The service was sub-par for this restaurant. We felt like we were seated at the invisible table. It took a long time to for anyone to acknowledge that we had been seated and provide menus, a long time to take our order, my wife's request for lemon or lime (for her sparkling water) wasn't fulfilled until she asked a second time about 10 minutes later.
Yes, we'll be back: this wasn't bad enough to spoil the restaurant for us. But, we were certainly disappointed.
Not the 5-star experience we’ve come to know and love from this favorite restaurant. Food was very good, but not outstanding and much less innovative then our experience recalls. Service was fine but not impeccable. They missed quite a few tricks throughout the evening. The experience no longer stands out from the other great restaurants in the immediate vicinity.
Jardiniere has been our favorite restaurant for years. Always got top reviews from us. Sorry to say we feel it's not up to what it used to be. Still great drinks and wine selection. Still love the arborio rice bread with pate. Disappointing that one can no longer get risotto, which used to always be on the menu. The Carolina rice dish does not stand up to being a main dish. It is lacking in the complexity of a risotto. Surprising that a restaurant the level of Jardiniere has switched on that.
The biggest disappointment from even a short while ago was the service. We had found the service always consummate professionalism in the past. Part of what one expects at a restaurant like Jardinere. This time we found it only mediocre - the food service, the wine service and the coordination of the two.
We eat there all the time. Food is incredible. We had tickets for a 7:30 show at SFJAZZ. We told them that. Our entree came out at 7/15. Food was great but had to eat way to fast. Nobody apologized. We will be back but we’re disappointed with the service this time.
Food was wonderful! Just don’t sit at table 99. It’s right next to the bar and waiting area. Feels like you’re sitting at the kids table at thanksgiving.
Second time there in less than a month. Same waiter and made no notion of "welcome back - good to see you again". Dishes were very hit or miss. Acme bread - delish. Warm bread salad - delish. Chitarra pasta dish - pretty bland, couldn't even taste the asparagus. Side dish fried baby favas - amazing!!! And, the waiter knew we had symphony and took forever to bring out the bill.
We visit Jardiniere several times each year during the San Francisco Ballet season, and know it pretty well. This wonderful restaurant has never disappointed in any aspect--really. Greeting at the door is like visiting warm friends. Servers really know what's happening in the kitchen and what each menu item is about--helpful when the ingredients aren't well known! Food is impeccably prepared and yummy. Since we always have a specific time to be at the Ballet, the servers are very conscious of this and make sure that the timing of our meals meets the schedule...this is really thoughtful and helpful. Thank you for everything, Jardiniere!
Fabulous food, service and ambiance
We have eaten here many times and return because it's truly good. This time the rabbit wrapped in bacon, oysters with Champagne, and a Gigondas to match both our entrees (she had lamb), all paired with the usual fine service got us out in time for the ballet.
Kinda stiff and formal, but what do you expect for a pre-theater place?
Think carefully if you're going to a performance because of delays in the kitchen. We waited over 30 minutes between our starter and main course, which meant that we needed to finish eating in about 15 minutes to rush to a performance at the Opera House. The server apologized several times, but things just came excruciatingly slow. So--be warned. Otherwise, the place is a foodie's delight.
Wait time between courses painfully slow. Portions small, considering expense. Food good & servers friendly & helpful.
The food was amazing, and the waitstaff and sommelier could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Hurrah for Jardiniere.
Classic SF spot, great food and environment that is always amazing. One of the best spot in Hayes Valley.
The sea bass and duck were excellent. The cheese plate was underwhelming. The ambiance of the restaurant was very elegant for a date night. However, the server was so curt and unfriendly that we decided not to stick around for more drinks, coffee, or dessert.
Food was OK, but not stellar. Duck, normally excellent, was only fair. Are you coasting?
Most convenient to Davies & the Opera House. Also, to Herbst. Excellent service. Good menu choices. Valet parking. Can't miss! I remember when it was Ed's Garage! I was a young City employee then. I'm retired now. It's a great place!
We eat at Jardiniere frequently and it is one of our favorites.
But tonight we were very disappointed. Food, steak and lamb, poor at best.
Wonderful experience. The staff was attentive, helpful, and knowledgeable. The food and wine were excellent. They kept the dining area about half-filled, so it didn't feel crowded. Nice interior finishes kept the noise level down.
Slow, slow, slow! It took 47 minutes (yes, I timed it) to get our entrees. We purposefully went a bit early because we were going to the ballet and the restaurant was not full. We ended up having to eat as fast as possible once our meals finally arrived so that we could make it to the show. Very disappointing not to be able to enjoy the (pricey) meal, especially after waiting so long. Forget dessert or coffee! While polite, the staff had a rather laissez faire attitude about the time. The food was good, but not a 'wow, want to go back there!' type of meal. In conjunction with the price, I will not go back.
Great dining experience.
Beautiful ambience, superb service, excellent wine list. Salads were very good although Asparagus Salad had too much buttermilk dressing. Spaghetti was rich, thick with no distinct flavor. Wagyu steak was fantastic but the broccoli accompaniment was mushy and salty. The chocolate parve was outstanding!
Walked out - plenty of open tables but we were sat at a poor table initially, one where we had people literally looking down on us. Asked to be moved - server kindly did so, then came back saying she had been yelled at and we needed to move again. Stuck us at a table right next to the bar where you have the wine guy hovering and with a wine bucket right next to your head - all while still plenty of empty tables. And by the way this was after 10:15 so after theater crowd had come in (I know because we were at the theater).
This used to be a classy place - empty tables, the menu we looked at and the way this whole issue was dealt with say those days are gone. Definitely a first world problem to complain about a table - but hard to understand why a simple request was made to feel so awkward. I know they would say the other tables were reserved in some way - but at that time? I doubt it. Could have been so easily solved. We left because they made us feel like bad people for asking to move.
Amazing food. Short menu. Great wine.
Service was excellent--menu not especially to our liking
I’ve been eating dinner prior to attending SFBallet since the restaurant opened. Always a wonderful experience. Thank you Jardiniere!
It’s been several years since we last dined here. The food was good, but not great. I had the duck and didn’t think too much of it , my wife and our friend had fish and they enjoyed it. The dessert was good along with the service, but I don’t think I’d go back.
Excellent service... Food was delicious...sea bass tasted a little undercooked..other than that lamb..bread salad and cheesecake excellent! Loved my waitress with the flower of life earrings :-)
I so appreciate the excellent service at Jardiniere. We ordered a salad, two appetizers and an entree and the kitchen plated everything for two people (half of each item for each person) which was the perfect amount of food for us. Vegetables are all flavorful and beautiful, the crudo is pristine and composed with tasty garnishes. My favorite cocktail (Oaxacan forest) was no longer on menu but the bartender still made it for me. They did not make us feel rushed at all but served us in time so we could make our show.
Simply wonderful, food, quiet atmosphere at 5:30, service, just what we needed after a hard day/week/month/year.
Lovely experience for our anniversary. Service was great. They even put the flowers my husband brought in a vase while we were there.
Food was also amazing. They have the Impossible Burger here and it was delicious!
Our waiter Scott was fabulous! He was super attentive & very nice. Our food was so delicious service was very fast. my boyfriend and I had a wonderful anniversary here
Some of the rudest service I have ever had. Food is overpriced and mediocre. Would not go back
