Jaleo brings alive the spirit and flavors of Spain with a menu reflecting the rich regional diversity of classical and contemporary Spanish cuisine, under the direction of renowned chef José Andrés. Jaleo offers an impressive assortment of tapas, the traditional small dishes of Spain, as well as savory paellas, superb sangrias and a fine selection of Spanish wines and Sherries in a festive, casual atmosphere.
We love Jaleo, have been going for years and the quality stays high. It was weird this time with a mostly empty place due to coronavirus concerns. But the food was excellent and the service terrific, as always.
I felt like we were back in Spain, food, drink ambience and our waiter Juan Carlos was awesome👍🏻
The food was incredible but since it was my first time dining here it would have been nice to be introduced to the menu and walked through with more information.
Very good service. Gin and tonics specials were a treat.
We have been here many times before but have not been for a long time. This time, we were disappointed. The main issue was that my husband ordered the ham and chicken croquettes and he found a bone in one of them. This completely killed his appetite. The waiter did credit us for that one dish, but it really doesn’t make up for the fact that there was a bone in his croquette. The other thing that was odd was that the portions were much bigger than one would expect for tapas. For example, my husband received eight large croquettes! I ordered a soup and it was quite a large bowl. This might work if you had a big crowd and were passing things around, but it was just the two of us and we would have preferred to get a larger number of items that were priced and sized more reasonably.
Always a good experience. Good food, great lunch prices and good service.
We had dinner before attending a Shakespeare Theater production at the Lansburgh. We each ordered two dishes and shared. For me, the stand-outs were the three cheese plate and the fried eggplant. The wait staff was attentive and we had ample time to make the 7:30 curtain.
This was our third time dining at Jaleo. The small plates were the generally wonderful. The iberico ham, steak, and cheeses with their accompaniments were the standouts for us. The shrimp with garlic butter was under seasoned a bit. The service was outstanding and cocktails were delicious. We were a bit disappointed in dessert, but perhaps we ordered badly. Overall a good experience but I think the shine is fading a little for us.
Food was outstanding! Taste, presentation and timeliness of order were all excellent. Felt staff from hostess to waiter were pleasant, but all a little preoccupied and/or slightly inattentive. Had to call to correct inaccurate reporting to open table on reservation. We were reported as no show despite confirming reservation and time with hostess upon arrival. Manager was very pleasant, professional and attentive to resolution of the issue. This slight error would not prevent us from dining here again. The food is worth any difficulty or inconvenience you may encounter.
This is the second time coming to Jaleo and it was underwhelming. Had 4 different dishes, Everything was rich but lacked flavor. Service was average at best. Has to ask for salt 3 times, finally got 2 dishes of salt after we were 1/2way done with the dish. Probably won't be back.
Great menu and food. Really weird decor: murals of kids tangled up in spider webs, model of old toys hanging from ceiling. Our group agreed it was UGLY.
Absolutely impeccable meal. Every single thing we had was faultless.
This was my first time and Jaleo, and it exceeded my expectations. The tapas menu has so many options, and our server was very knowledgeable. We ate from the vegetarian and seafood menus and there were a lot of options. The paella (feeds 2) was the last item we received, and it was amazing and totally worth the wait, since paella is a "slow food"!
As always, great food and service. Jaleo is our favorite restaurant in the Penn Quarter.
Had a wonderful pre-theater meal at Jaleo. We really enjoyed the Ensaladilla rusa with roe (simple but elegant), the oxtail special and the always spectacular Rossejat. And while we still call it "Jose's Way", the Ultimate Gin and Tonic is still special with its refreshing tastes. Also, the service from Julian was excellent. He kept the food and drinks coming and got us out in plenty of time for our curtain.
We'll be back again soon.
Really delicious food. High end and excellent value.
Mid-Sunday afternoon restaurant was busy and energetic. Service a bit slow and decent value for the price. Worth a stop but not a habit.
Tasting menu was awesome! Food was amazing, start to finish
We love Jaleo but this visit was not the best. Our waiter was friendly but forgot is for about 30 minutes and was hard to find at times. The food was good, not great. Probably an off night but Jose may want to send QC their way.
Great service until it filled up, then hard to fly down server. Probably too many tables assigned to each server. Food excellent.
We had dinner with work colleagues after a conference. Restaurant was slamming busy on a Thursday night, glad we had reservations! I’ve been to Jaleo’s plenty of times but never had done the tasting menu. We chose to do the top one and it was AMAZING!! The food and service was amazing. Would totally do it again.
No kidding: Michelin star food at affordable prices. Who would have thunk it was possible? I'm a picky Frenchman when it comes to food and my (limited) experience of Spanish food had been, well, uneven. Jaleo changed that for the better. Go taste their lunch menu: $20.00 for four delicious courses, $25.00 if you wash it down with a fruity Sangria. You can't beat that.
Best value in town, period. Most importantly, flavorful and refined. Would they charge $100.00 it would still be worth it.
Another delicious lunch BUT food took forever. The menu is full of great options.
Great food and energetic atmosphere! I will go back!
Really great, tasty tapas, the best gin and tonic I’ve ever had. Friendly staff - would be 5 stars but was slow in asking if I wanted a second drink which made me drink it while I was paying the check. Otherwise one of my favorite places to eat in DC - I hit this before a Caps game
The section we sat in was very cold. All the way in the back corner I don't think our server knew we were there for quite some time.
There was also a large group of people watching a soccer game by our table that was quite loud. I am not sure what was up with the TV in the dinning room. Kinda a vibe killer.
I have been to this location many times, I feel like maybe I caught them at a bad time. The food was good, and once our order was taken it showed up quickly.
I’ve been dining at Jaleo in DC for more than 20 years. This was a very disappointing experience because the quality of the food has tailed off dramatically. A Jose Andres restaurant is usually top shelf. What we experienced on Saturday was undercooked pulpo and tortilla and postage stamp piquillo peppers ☹️ Fortunately, there was a large supply of our favorite wine. However, wine is not the prime attraction - it’s the food. After Saturday’s experience, I need to find another quality tapas restaurant.
Superb, as always. One small quibble. The door muffin couldn't find our Open Table reservation. Fortunately, OT puts one's res on his Outlook calendar. I whipped that out and we were seated immediately. Although not in the window seat I had requested through OT.
Jaleo's high high standards for really delicious food continue.
We always enjoy eating in Jose's restaurants! The quality is excellent!
Our table for two was tiny and didn't leave much room at all for us. It was a cold blustery day and the table was very cold. We never took our coats off.
The service and food were outstanding so the discomfort was significantly offset!
Wonderful service! Our waiter was so helpful in explaining the menu. He made everything he recommended sound delicious- and it was! Save room for the rice pudding dessert! It was my favorite part of the meal.
An amazing family brunch. We tried and enjoyed so many new things. Always a fabulous experience!
Cousins night out, lovely table and we could at least hear each other but restaurants really need to consider noise as it diminishes ambience. Food was fantastic and fast although we wished that the patatas bravas was not the last dish served. The pimento with goat cheese was our least favorite but the special, only available there cheese was divine as was the grapefruit and olive oil ice cream.
