Fabulous food & attentive, informative staff- we went with water's recommendations & were not disappointed!! Food is fresh & prepared wonderfully! A bit spendy but we felt well worth it!
Dungeness crab was amazing! First time trying escargot and surprisingly delicious. A must try!
As always, the service was spectacular and the food was perfect.
The booths in the back are very squishy small and a bit uncomfortable. Go for a table.
Friendly, rapid seating, we go around 5pm so we miss the largest crowds, waiter was outstanding, attentive but not overshadowing like I prefer.
Food was spot on to perfection, Filets, Sturgeon, Steelhead cooked exactly how ordered.
Prawn appetizers were fresh as were the salads, vegetables and warm bread.
No complaints from someone who demands quality fresh product for what I pay for and that’s why we went back again, amazingly it’s not that easy to find consistency in food portions, quality or preparation of food even at the top end restaurants in Portland of which we have been most or all of them, Jakes has been spot on for us.
We have recommended to several friends.
Great food and service! My sister and brother-in-law have been coming here for years and highly recommended it. We were not disappointed! Everything was absolutely delicious!
Blue Plate Special with grilled steelhead was outstanding and a very good value.
Great spot for weekday lunch downtown in a time when it's difficult to impossible to find restaurants open during the daytime!
Has been my favorite restaurant for at least 40 years!!! Great bit of Portland to take newcomers to.
Food was great. Service was good. Parking was a bit difficult.
Really enjoyed the whole experience... Our waiter suggested the salmon special and I absolutely loved it!
The food was decent, not great. Overpriced. Old school atmosphere was cool. Dessert was blah. Won’t go back.
Waiter was very good.
Our dinner was delicious. Service was excellent. Wonderful old Portland atmosphere.
Food and service was awesome! They also accommodated our reservation changes at the last minute.
Christopher who waited on us was Exceptional. We asked a lot of questions about the menu and he did carefully answer all things.
Everything turned out As Advertised!!!
Service was excellent Don was our server. His recommendations where excellent! Had a great time.
What you notice first when you come here is the very unassuming entrance that when you walk through the door instantly transforms you into a different time. What you come to learn is that Jake's has been here for over 125 years now, back when a horse and buggy would provide you with your transportation needs. Once seated in one of their many dining spaces you will get a large but obvious to who they are menu. We started with a dozen oysters, from Kumomoto's (very small and sweet) to Pacific (large ones with a hint of salty brine). The wife decided on a crab and Brie stuffed salmon special and I had Jake's famous etouffee. We followed that for desert with a flourless chocolate cake with caramel sauce. Libations were an Angels Envy Old Fashioned and the wife had a triple berry Tito's martini.
As my wife described my dish, my meal was like a big giant hug on a cold winters day. The rue was a deep dark nutty brown color rich in flavor and had a touch of southern heat to it. With Shrimp, Crawfish, Chicken, and Sausage along with the tradition scoop of rice, this dish was everything this well earned gut could hope for. Just like my wife, her dish was very well defined, as the crab and Brie stuffing made for an amazing experience. Typically Brie can be overpowering, however in this mix, added with a little cream cheese allowed for the Brie to shine just as brightly as the amazingly well cooked Salmon. If that wasn't good enough, the garlic mashed potatoes were to die for.
Add all of this up, and then begin to just soak up all of the history on the walls from articles to paintings to the Tiffany style stained glass and chandeliers and what you end up with is a high class experience. Jake's has earned its spot for me as a absolute go to must when I'm in Portland.
Salmon was good. Bouillebaisse could have been more flavorful. Service was good and the atmosphere was pleasant.
It was my first time there and it was wonderful! The food and service were excellent.
Jake’s Crawfish is an iconic best restaurant in Portland. The food is consistently excellent with terrific wait staff. There is no finer seafood restaurant in the USA.
All four of us had a great lunch at Jake's. Everything was perfect; food delicious, Irish Coffees so good, oysters yummy. Really a great please to enjoy good food and friends.
Loved my server!
This place was recommended with one of my colleagues. It is my first trip to Portland and I absolutely enjoyed everything about this place . 😊
Lots of customers, so it was noisy. Food was great and server was friendly and knowledgeable. It was wife's birthday and "Happy Birthday" was printed on the menu--a good touch! A little disappointing that nothing was done for her beyond sticking a candle in the creme brulee, though. Otherwise, a memorable experience, as it usually is.
The steelhead with shrimp sauce was one of the best things I ever ate.
I took my boyfriend there for his birthday, and I'm really happy with the night we had!
Food is always spot on!
Great fresh seafood. Attentive service.
We visited Portland for a family New Year and wanted a place that could accommodate a daughter who only eats fish. Jakes had a table and seated us on time. The menu is great, the staff friendly and responsive and the food was wonderful. Great shrimp cocktail, escargot, stuffed salmon, everything was delicious. Our waitress was helpful and had a great personality - great night all around!!! Highly recommend.
We used to love going to Jake's for the stuffed salmon but the last few times it has become evident that it is going downhill. The restaurant was overcrowded, in need of an update. Hopefully they can turn it around when/if COVID ends.
Never disappointed at Jake's!
Excellent service (thanks Tess) and superb food.
So glad they were still decorated for the holidays..made the experience so special
Service was very slow. But Kathy server pleasant
Trout was over cooked very [dry]..sauce was cold
French onion soup. Poor
Fish chips good
Crab salad good
Been loyal year customer since 1975 (45 yrs)
But after poor last three visits not our top 5 choices any longer
Dreaded being in a crowded waiting area on New Year's Eve with Omicron in the air however, our booth was ready for us on time and seating was well separated between diners. Our meal was delicious: pan fried oysters for me, steelhead for him. Our server graciously subbed a veggie I wasn't allergic to for the original one. Service was a bit off in terms of never clearing unused wine glasses off of the table, not refilling our water glasses as needed, not bringing the dessert tray around. But our server was friendly and understandably was very busy with other tables and we felt she did the best she could. The staff was decked out in festive clothes and the atmosphere was quietly upbeat. Exactly what we wanted to bring in 2022. You will not be disappointed at Jake's.
Covid staffing shortage caused delays in service. We understand these challenges and enjoyed our dining experience nonetheless. As usual the food did not disappoint!
Great atmosphere for Anniversary dinner and we even got a slice of flourless chocolate cake for our special day. Food was excellent except the side we a lukewarm. Otherwise a very nice time. Plan to come back.
Our New Year’s Eve dinner celebration was everything we wanted. Felt safe and cozy away from people ( we are seniors, 70 & 86yo respectively) and our server was attentive and experienced with everything we asked about. We will come again because it ranks up there as one of our favorite places to dine out.
A great place to dine in Portland , top quality and service Thanks sl
We were seated right away, wait staff was friendly and attentive. Food excellent as usual.
Server was rude we had a child that was behaving excellent and minding his own business when we were told the iPad noise was too loud when he has it super quiet. In the meantime everyone else laughing talking loud that’s ok but a child behaving watching an iPad was told to turn it down and told rudely.
Started with the Crab Cakes and Oysters. Stood great on their own. Had the Stuffed Salmon and Parmesan Sole with Creme Brulle to finish. Great food. Good atmosphere. Cozy vibes. Our server Brett was efficient and friendly. Enjoyed the visit.
