I wanted to take my husband to a new restaurant on his 70th birthday. I alerted the staff beforehand in an e-mail and wasn't sure how they would respond. -They exceeded my expectations in making this a special dining experience.
After we were seated, the host brought 2 flutes of champagne to the table which was a festive start. The Prix Fix options were perfectly fine for lunch and for new guests. We started with the "lamb lollipops" as an appetizer (not included in prix fix) and they were delicious. I can honestly say my steak was exquisite. The fries were light and not greasy. My husband is a fan of burgers. He had the kobe special which he enjoyed.
At the end of the meal, the waiter brought my husband an elegant piece of tiramisu with a sparkler candle for dessert and sang "Happy Birthday." We were so glad we chose Jack's Bar and Steakhouse for this special occasion. We will return for my birthday.
Seemed like a nice place, at first. Made reservations online - easy. We were seeing a show at the Shubert and had over an hour to eat. We arrived ten minutes early and was seated right away. Then waited over twenty minutes for our server, who never came. I don't know if this was on off night with minimum wait staff or what. We got tired of asking if we even had a server and half an hour later, left. Maybe we will try again at a much later date.
The menu looks great...wish we could have tried the food. Sat down, got water on the table 20 minutes later, waiter came another 15 minutes after that, ordered food and drinks, nothing came for another 15 minutes so we left - came at 5:30 to make a 7 PM show at the Shubert down the street - couldn’t find a manager - the whole time. Should have known there was a problem when another table left for same reason when we walked in and table next to us had already been waiting 1/2 hour to order themselves.
I cannot even put into words how awful our evening was. Huge disappointment after coming several times prior. The owner seemed to be st the bar with his friends and did nothing to assist the completely full restaurant with only two servers and one bartender. 10 minutes to be seated because of no host and a couple waiting 4 groups behind us was seated before all of us with a reservation just because. Then almost 15 minutes and asking three times to get a server to order. Another 20+ minutes for drinks and thankfully our server came back an hour and fifteen minutes after he took our order so we could ask for our check. One of the WORST dining experiences I have had in a very long time.
Service: you better have an extra hour or so to kill and enjoy rude behavior.
We had a 5:30 pm dinner reservation but arrived ten minutes early. Although we were seated immediately, no one took our order—despite several requests. After 25 minutes, we abandoned all hope and left. We had tickets at the theatre across the street for a 7:00pm. curtain. By 5:45pm we realized that even if a waiter showed up to actually take our order, we would have less than half an hour to “dine”. We noticed that guests around us and at the bar we also making requests to place their orders.
While we cannot comment on the food , this establishment is clearly living off recent rave reviews or experiencing serious labor issues. If you enjoy being an abused diner, this place is for you.
2 waiters were on for the whole restaurant. Glad I went early, because it took 30 minutes for our order to be taken -- then the food came before our drinks!
Drinks and food were fantastic though, so, good on that.
After placing our dinner order ( two salads, two steaks, two baked potatoes), we did not see our waiter for 40 minutes. When he appeared to inquire if we wanted another glass of wine, I asked when our salads might be arriving. He assured us our food would be arriving soon. Twenty minutes later, a server brought one salad and one steak dinner. When we asked where our other meal was, he left and got our waiter who tried to convince us that we had only order one meal! Even though we had made a 5:00 reservation so that we could get to the Shubert for our 7:00 show, we did not have time to wait for another meal to be prepared. We split the one meal and filled up on popcorn and candy at the theater. This was an awful dining experience.
The steaks did not disappoint. Beautiful cuts of meat, well seasoned and perfectly cooked. The salads were delicious and interesting. Will definitely dine here again.
We really enjoyed our meal here. We ordered the Rib Eye and the Gnocchi, and the Lobster roll. All very good. We will be back!
Overpriced, low quality food, soaked in salt. Don’t waste your time or money.
I love the ambience of this place. Separate rooms-bar area with a lot of seating (tables, bar and booths), fireplace, and a separate dining room. It's a bit pricey (but not really for a steakhouse). We went during restaurant week and got a 3 course meal for $34 which is a great deal. The food was delicious (we had salmon and short ribs), everything cooked to perfection and service was excellent. Would highly recommend.
We went for restaurant week for lunch. Steak was great, as was the pappardelle. Will definitely return soon!
Service was fabulous and the food was tremendous!! Definitely will be back!!
Worst food ever.
I really enjoyed dinner here with a group of friend. Saturday happy hour is the best from your table.
Jack’s is a great place to meet for good food and drinks or a cozy romantic dinner! Lots of variety in the food from seafood to steak and even great gluten free options! Highly recommend Jacks!
A sports bar with loud music and TVs that serves good steaks. Not a quiet, clubby steak house.
Our first visit but will definitely not be our last! Food was exceptional. Has a wonderful time with friends. Would recommend this place hands down.
An outstanding meal.
This was by far the best meal I have had in YEARS. I will definitely go back every time I'm in the area.
Great food & Service! Nice job, Diego! My wife was so happy with the service on her special day! Thank you!
Great food and everyone was very friendly! Would definitely go back! Steak tartar app is a must!
The cocktails, meal, wine and dessert were all VERY good. Steaks were done to absolute perfection and were seasoned very nicely.
The only suggestion i might make on the food would be to make the chimichurri with some cilantro as that would make it tastier and more traditional.
I must say that this is not a quiet steakhouse in any traditional way and it s quite loud and at times was obnoxiously so.
There was dance music playing in the dining room during dinner which was not fantastic and the bar was so loud that it spilled over into the dining room so that added to the issue.
To top it all off the walls, floor and ceiling weer all hard surfaces so there was no sounds absorption whatsoever in the room.
To top it all off apparently the dining room becomes a dance/party area after dinner.
The owner served is and he was nice and i certainly do understand they are trying to be everything to everyone but not sure that is the wisest thing to do all the time.
We would certainly return based on the food but would go early as the later it got the louder it got... :(
Marco Siguenza has done it again. I'm kicking myself for not getting here sooner, but I was very pleased to see what a great job he and his brother have done with the ambiance, menu, and service. It's exactly what the area needed, and the execution is perfect. I will definitely be back for dinner, but the lunch crowd and price fixe is also great.
Steak was pretty good flavor-wise, but was somewhat overdone. Server was very friendly and helpful. Overall pretty tasty meal. I’d recommend it for a date night or other special occasion.
We very much enjoyed all of our courses. Very good service.
The food was very good but was on the expensive side. Service was very good too. My only complaint was the music that was playing was too loud to have dinner conversation. Would definitely take that into consideration the next time I am picking a restaurant.
Can’t cook a steak to temp! Mid rare ordered came back second time still rare. Service not up to the menus prices 😉
Service was inattentive and ineffective
Will not return
Awesome place for most occasions from date to hanging out with friends. Friendly environment. Music is bumping. And food is amazing !
From the oysters to the apps to the steaks, this place was a Home Run. We live 30 minutes away & just used the open table recommendations to try it out. So glad we did.
Very over priced for what you get. We were surprised how good one dish was and surprised how bad another was. Service was either bored or taught to hover but couldn’t wait to take our plates even mid bite. And it happened every 1-2 minutes with different waiters and bus people asking the same thing. Couldn’t even get through a conversation.
The food was tasty and our sever was animated and attentive. The music had a funky vibe that mirrored a Saturday evening.
8pm reservation for dinner for my wife and I on a Friday night.. Ordered two 12oz ribeyes with a side of mashed potatoes and spinach to share- no dessert. Plus two cocktails and two glasses of wine- $167+ tip.. The food was great, but definitely overpriced.
The primary reason for the low score was the service- absolutely sub-par. I'm not a "needy" customer, but I do expectations certain level of attentiveness, especially at these prices. We went through the entire dinner with empty glasses (Note to mgmt- I intended to order a bottle of wine but didn't since I was practically finished with dinner once the waiter finally got around to speaking with us... So there's $50-60 down the tubes).
Regarding the food- Ribeyes were cooked spot-on and were delicious. The sides were delicious as well, but a little small to share (I would have ordered more if I could have- but, once again, no waiter). All in all- great food, poor service, and too expensive. Won't be going back. There are too many other spectacular options in New Haven.
The food and service were good but the a la carte menu is unfair. When you pay $ 55. for a piece of meat, the least the restaurant could do is throw in the vegetable and baked potato for free. Here it was $ 10 for each item making the meal $ 75. for one person. My friend and I split it so it was more economical. I won't be back at those prices.
Wonderful service and great food
By far, one of the best dining experience we have ever had! The ambiance was romantic, the food was outstanding and cooked to perfection and the service was impeccable. I would, without hesitation, recommend Jack's Bar & Steakhouse to anyone! Keep up the good work :)
The food and service were over the top. The atmosphere was cozy yet vibrant. The homemade bread comes in a cast iron pan warm and flavorful. Our server was there for all our questions and his recommendations were right on.
Second visit to Jack's, unfortunately not as good as first time. Steak ordered medium came out rare, scalloped potatoes glued together and asparagus soggy. Maybe that's what you get when you go out on a Monday night.
Will give it another try but it will be a while.
OMG TO DIE FOR!! Amazing food. Never had wet aged beef before and now can’t go back to dry aged. Finally found a place that cooks a steak as good as I do at home. Wow. Sides are as good as the entree. Both my wife and I had steaks that were simply cooked to perfection. Their sides would stand up on their own for a lunch. I had roasted brussel sprouts which were incredible. Wife had mashed and carmalzed onion. Also incredible. Excellent service. Amazing decor. Heard stuff like “omg this is the best steak I’ve ever had in my life” and “this food is amazing” and “best meal I’ve had in decades...maybe ever” from other tables and my wife and I couldn’t agree more. Expensive?? Absolutely but like the saying goes you get what you pay for. If you love steak your an idiot if you don’t try this place
