The Restaurant will serve new American cuisine and it's concept will be centered around the modern American speakeasy with hints of the old roaring 20's. The menu will be eclectic and modern, giving the food a high-end feel, but at prices that are affordable and accessible. The menu will focus on pastas, seafood and meat selections for the main entrees, including prime-aged steaks at a better price than anywhere in the area. We don't want to limit ourselves by calling it a steakhouse, but we will be cooking the cuts using an 1800 degree infrared oven, like high end steakhouses do. The steaks will have very thin margins and really are a loss lead er to promote volume at the restaurant. The last thing we want to be is a special occasion restaurant. We want to be the weekly spot for our customers.

The food was excellent. The steak was some of the best we have had. Nice to have a steakhouse in the area. Sides were all delicious and chocolate lava cake was delicious! Staff was very friendly and attentive.

After having had a great dinner a while back we decided to try their brunch.
The Crispy Pork Belly was awesome as was the Lobster Benedict.
We decided to get the bottomless cocktails and that made it a bargain.
Our waiter and busing staff were all very attentive and on the ball.
Will return again soon!!

Had a date night steak dinner here Saturday night. We were seated in the bar room and our waiter, Diego, was outstanding. We each got a glass of wine that were nice pours and tasty. We split a wedge salad which was the perfect size and well dressed, and the charcuterie plate, which was a bit expensive for what it was, but delicious just the same. Steaks were cooked perfectly and tasted great. We got tots off the small plates menu since sides looked a bit boring otherwise... a good choice. Bar area got very loud while we were there. Would go back again for a good meal.

This restaurant is usually best all around. That is exceptional service, decor and Food quality, but this weekend the service was unexceptional and didn’t equal the quality of the food. Our server was very slow and not attentive. I am just hoping that it just was an off night.

Came in for brunch. Party of 4. First time. Our server was “ok” but had no sense of urgency. Our starters took about 20 mins to come out, and they were all gross with the exception of the lamb lollipops which were subpar. Our entree’s took another 45 minutes after that, All of those horrible as well with the exception of the Kobe beef burger which was bearable at most and the child’s French toast, bacon and scrambled eggs which were actually pretty good. The French fries were hard as ROCKS! The crab cake is AWFUL, nothing but filler and over seasoned, accompanied by the worst hollandaise sauce I’ve ever had. Mind you the restaurant was nowhere near full so no excuse for such a long wait and horrible food . There were probably about a total of maybe 13 people in the entire place. Unacceptable. I will never return. I take being a food critic very seriously. I just wish Jacks did the same with their food.

We found Jack's on Open Table what a gem I am not from the area so I was so Pleased
The staff was so nice Great value Food was good They did not rush us out of the restaurant It turned into a College Bar After 10 It was great I recommend it

We ordered the Tomahawk Steak medium it was cooked to perfection( the burnt ends were eyes roll into the back of your head incredible) With 2 sides it was the perfect amount for 3 people. The Calamari side was light, fresh and perfectly crispy while the Slab of bacon appetizer was a beautiful mix of fattiness, saltiness and burnt in just the right spots. I truly enjoyed dinner there and while it's not an everyday place because of price it is the perfect place to treat yourself every now and again. Well done

Wonderful meal! Hubby said it was the best steak he ever had. My beef short ribs with risotto was also amazing. Service was great, didn't feel rushed at all. Went on NYE and had a great night out.

Everything at Jacks was delicious! Special shout out to the mouth watering grilled octopus! The arugula and pear salad had wonderful flavor. My husband and I shared the rack of lamb dinner because we saw how large the portion was at another table. It came out a perfect medium. This will be our spot when we visit our son in NH again.

Had a group lunch at Jacks with the prixe fixe lunch and we all had a blast. It is quite a bit of food for the money. There was not a bad bit of the meal, soup was excellent, but the steal was the calamari, one of the best fried calamari we ever had.
The main courses were all excellent what you would expect from a steakhouse, we will be adding it to our rotation when we want a nice lunch.

Great steaks, awesome onion soup, and yummy deserts. Trendy New Haven restaurant for steaks and seafood. Bar has a nice NYC vibe good for after dinner drinks. Definitely will be back.

I went there for my birthday dinner. It was an awesome experience, from the waiting staff, to the runner, even the owner was attentive. It was my first time there and I was craving the grilled octopus and the tomahawk. All delicious, including the tiramisu for dessert.

Lemon drop martini tasted funny, almost chemically but they took it back and made me a different one (cosmo). The bread was decent but for this price point I would expect better. All other dishes we received were very good.

Beef tips were cooked perfectly and everyone enjoyed their different meals. It was very quiet in the restaurant on a Sunday mid-day prior to a play at the Shubert Theater across the street. The waiter was very friendly. We thought the restaurant was offering a buffet brunch when we made the reservation, but we were equally happy with the menu ordered meal (just a little surprised). The restaurant's web site was a little confusing on this point.

One major problem right from the start.

Website shows prefixe lunch menu available.

Menu shows it is available Saturday.

We ask for prefixe lunch menu. Waiter says it is not available. I show him what it says on his menu. He checks with whomever is in charge and says it isn't available

We should have picked up and left right then. Instead we stayed and had an inferior overpriced lunch which we didn't enjoy.

Won't ever waste any time there again.

The show at the Shubert was excellent and that part of New Haven is nice

Dinner before a show at the Shubert. Great service. Convenience to theater. Brussel Sprouts were delish side. The salmon with the smoked tomato and lentils were a delicious combo. Steaks were done to order. Dessert was the chocolate fondue for two. Very fun end to our dinner. Everyone was happy we came.

Celebrated thanksgiving there with smother family. Service was incredible though it took really long for the desserts to come. Prices were really high though, especially given that sides are priced separately. Would return if someone else was paying! :-)

Loved the food, but did not like a 6oz. Filet Mignon for $37, and you pay extra for sides.
Be prepared to eat great food at Manhattan prices.

Our waiter really did a bad job and cast a Pall over what would have otherwise been an entertaining evening. The food was overpriced, but mostly well made and well seasoned. The drinks looked promising but were ultimately uninspired. I ordered two appetizers, one as my appetizer and one as my entree. When the food came, the waiter brought me a different main course which was more than twice as expensive as what I had ordered. It was a bad time to send back my meal as everyone else's food arrived at the same time. He did not offer to change the amount I would have paid or to correct the problem in any way. Instead, after we had all said that we were too full for dessert, he brought us a dessert. Explaining that it was, "his gift to us to make up for the wrong entree." I felt ripped off, and as though it was my fault that everyone at the table wound up paying more than they would have otherwise had to pay.

I wanted to take my husband to a new restaurant on his 70th birthday. I alerted the staff beforehand in an e-mail and wasn't sure how they would respond. -They exceeded my expectations in making this a special dining experience.
After we were seated, the host brought 2 flutes of champagne to the table which was a festive start. The Prix Fix options were perfectly fine for lunch and for new guests. We started with the "lamb lollipops" as an appetizer (not included in prix fix) and they were delicious. I can honestly say my steak was exquisite. The fries were light and not greasy. My husband is a fan of burgers. He had the kobe special which he enjoyed.
At the end of the meal, the waiter brought my husband an elegant piece of tiramisu with a sparkler candle for dessert and sang "Happy Birthday." We were so glad we chose Jack's Bar and Steakhouse for this special occasion. We will return for my birthday.

Seemed like a nice place, at first. Made reservations online - easy. We were seeing a show at the Shubert and had over an hour to eat. We arrived ten minutes early and was seated right away. Then waited over twenty minutes for our server, who never came. I don't know if this was on off night with minimum wait staff or what. We got tired of asking if we even had a server and half an hour later, left. Maybe we will try again at a much later date.

The menu looks great...wish we could have tried the food. Sat down, got water on the table 20 minutes later, waiter came another 15 minutes after that, ordered food and drinks, nothing came for another 15 minutes so we left - came at 5:30 to make a 7 PM show at the Shubert down the street - couldn’t find a manager - the whole time. Should have known there was a problem when another table left for same reason when we walked in and table next to us had already been waiting 1/2 hour to order themselves.

I cannot even put into words how awful our evening was. Huge disappointment after coming several times prior. The owner seemed to be st the bar with his friends and did nothing to assist the completely full restaurant with only two servers and one bartender. 10 minutes to be seated because of no host and a couple waiting 4 groups behind us was seated before all of us with a reservation just because. Then almost 15 minutes and asking three times to get a server to order. Another 20+ minutes for drinks and thankfully our server came back an hour and fifteen minutes after he took our order so we could ask for our check. One of the WORST dining experiences I have had in a very long time.

Service: you better have an extra hour or so to kill and enjoy rude behavior.
We had a 5:30 pm dinner reservation but arrived ten minutes early. Although we were seated immediately, no one took our order—despite several requests. After 25 minutes, we abandoned all hope and left. We had tickets at the theatre across the street for a 7:00pm. curtain. By 5:45pm we realized that even if a waiter showed up to actually take our order, we would have less than half an hour to “dine”. We noticed that guests around us and at the bar we also making requests to place their orders.
While we cannot comment on the food , this establishment is clearly living off recent rave reviews or experiencing serious labor issues. If you enjoy being an abused diner, this place is for you.

2 waiters were on for the whole restaurant. Glad I went early, because it took 30 minutes for our order to be taken -- then the food came before our drinks!

Drinks and food were fantastic though, so, good on that.

After placing our dinner order ( two salads, two steaks, two baked potatoes), we did not see our waiter for 40 minutes. When he appeared to inquire if we wanted another glass of wine, I asked when our salads might be arriving. He assured us our food would be arriving soon. Twenty minutes later, a server brought one salad and one steak dinner. When we asked where our other meal was, he left and got our waiter who tried to convince us that we had only order one meal! Even though we had made a 5:00 reservation so that we could get to the Shubert for our 7:00 show, we did not have time to wait for another meal to be prepared. We split the one meal and filled up on popcorn and candy at the theater. This was an awful dining experience.

The steaks did not disappoint. Beautiful cuts of meat, well seasoned and perfectly cooked. The salads were delicious and interesting. Will definitely dine here again.

I love the ambience of this place. Separate rooms-bar area with a lot of seating (tables, bar and booths), fireplace, and a separate dining room. It's a bit pricey (but not really for a steakhouse). We went during restaurant week and got a 3 course meal for $34 which is a great deal. The food was delicious (we had salmon and short ribs), everything cooked to perfection and service was excellent. Would highly recommend.
