Jack Stack Barbecue - Freight House
Jack Stack Barbecue originated in Kansas City in 1957, by Russ Fiorella in a traditional storefront barbecue, with a modest selection of 5 or 6 items. Jack Fiorella, the eldest son, worked with his father until 1974 when he decided to branch off and start Fiorella's Jack Stack of Martin City.
To stand out in the competitive KC barbecue scene of the mid 1970's, Jack and Delores, began cooking with Gourmet Hickory Wood and created the most extensive barbecue menu in the country. The menu included Certified Angus Beef steaks, tender chicken, award-winning lamb ribs, and mouth-watering sides like Hickory Pit Beans and Cheesy Corn Bake.
Always a favorite to bring out of town guest!
Great food and fantastic service. Amy was an awesome waitress!!
The food was cooked exactly as ordered and was delicious; the staff was attentive but not over bearing. The restaurant has a robust gluten free menu.
Jack stack was recommended to me by everyone I spoke with that found out I was going to KC for the weekend and the restaurant did not disappoint. Thank you for the great service and excellent food. Great for those with gluten free allergies.
Food is amazing as always. 3rd time here and doesn't disappoint.
Jack Stack Barbecue at the Freight House never disappoints. Food and service are excellent. We’re regulars!
Sarah is the best server at the restaurant bar none. Kira is the best manager. Wings are excellent. Lamb ribs and beef ribs are great. Cheese baked potato dish is superb. All the flavored drinks, whether it is tea, lemonade or whatever are exceptional.
Best barbecue I have bin at, best spare ribb ever.
Yummy food. Server was nice and suggested the family style dinner as a good value. The lighting in there is a little too low and makes it hard to read the menu.
I love Jack Stack, I stop there everytime I visit KC. food is delicious! Service was horrid. Had "Hannah", I had to keep asking for my sweet tea. Got it way after everyone already had their drinks from the bar. Never came to check on how food was, never asked if I wanted a refill. She asked if we wanted dessert, said no and she immediately brought the bill...we were still planning on ordering more beer but she never asked or came back for that. Only quality service we got was the 'waterboy's' who made sure they were refilling. Also, never did get the "celebration" for a birthday we were there.
Great BBQ with excellent service. A real gem.
Outstanding on every level!
Food was great! But we were very disappointed in the service. They made us feel very rushed and they weren't attentive. Didn't even ask us if we needed drink refills. Worst service we had in KC
We were visiting in town and wanted to try the famous BBQ spot. Food was great and we highly recommend it. Portion size wasn’t as much as I anticipated it to be but it was delicious!
Perfect first Friday meal!
The food and service are excellent! The facility is beautiful. However the noise level makes it so hard to have a conversation. On top of the noise of customers talking - the music was loud as well. Not sure if there is anything that can be done about it without compromising the beauty of the freight house restoration.
We liked it a lot. Food was really, really good. BBQ at its best! Cornbread was delicious as well.
We had burnt ends, ribs, prime and chicken that were tender and delicious. It’s a large warehouse style dining room so nothing quaint about it....kinda noisy.
If I lived in KC I’d go back for sure.
Great food! The ribs were some of the best I’ve had!
Great customer service
It was a lovely family dinner and every item was Jack Stack perfect!
Very friendly wait staff - great food - wish there were smaller portions.
We had made reservations ahead of time for the Freight District Restaurant and hardly had to wait but the restaurant was packed on a Sunday evening. We felt rushed by our server since they were trying to turn the tables fast. We were celebrating our daughter's birthday and they were very gracious in providing a complimentary dessert.
LAMB RIBS! Great place. Tied for best BBQ in KC w/ Joe’s. A bit of a classier experience, but seriously, the lamb ribs are life-changing.
We enjoy Jackstack BBQ so much! We love that you have gluten free options. Definitely one reason we eat here when we visit KC. Also really enjoy the ease of reserving a table online!
Our server wasn’t really happy that he had gotten another table added to him, but his attitude changed after our order.
Fabulous as always! Had their combo with sliced meets and burnt ends. The mushrooms for appetizer where delicious. Topped it off with a lightly lemon flavored creme brûlée.
Great waitstaff. Efficient but not rushed.
Food was awesome, waitress was very attentive to put needs and we never ran out of beverages. Can be a little noisy at times but the atmosphere of this place just makes you relax and enjoy some outstanding barbeque. Prices I felt are reasonable for what you get and you get plenty. Extremely enjoyable establishment.
There are two Jack Stacks closer to us than the Freight House but we make the trip because everything is more consistently better. The ribs and meats are juicier and tastier. The service is always top notch. We feel this Jack Stack has the best barbecue, the best coleslaw, the best beans, pretty much the best everything barbecue in Kansas City.
Brought my niece from Texas here, the ribs we got were ok. Didn’t have much meat on them and the meat that was there was burnt. Kind of expensive for what we got. Have to come back at some point and order something else.
The food and service were great. Loved the bbq.
We ordered BBQ Comb with spare rib, lamb rib, corn Blake, bean as well as burn Ernst. Taste great.
Food is always amazing. Best BBQ I have had. Service is also amazing. My glass never went empty and table is cleared of dishes not being used immediately which is a huge bonus for me.
We had a beautiful family meal - great food and service, it was just a little noisy (which can't be helped).
The ambiance and food were great, my server was very friendly and attentive.
We were in Kansas City for the weekend and, based on our excellent meal there last year, made reservations to dine again with three additional family members. We were not disappointed. Our drinks were delicious and the BBQ was as fabulous as I remembered from last year. The ribs were meaty, flavorful, tender and had just the right amount of sauce and seasonings. We dined at a different restaurant and had ribs the next night and they couldn't hold a candle to Jack Stack Barbecue! We were seated within fifteen minutes of our scheduled reservation and our server was attentive to our needs. My only drawback to dining there is the noise level. It's loud enough to make visiting somewhat difficult yet that's also a sign of a vibrant, busy place. I'm hoping we can visit KC again next year; Jack Stack Freight House is on our short list of "must visit" dining options!
The service was great, food was awesome. GET. THE. CARROT. CAKE.
Service was excellent
Excellent service, Our waiter John was excellent and very friendly. Food was delicious and the price was fairly reasonable. Best BBQ in KC by far.
The waiter seemed to rush us a bit. I didn't like that but he was good.
