The value during Restaurant Week was outstanding. Otherwise I think the restaurant would be a bit overpriced ($46 entree!) The halibut was fabulous, perfectly done, but the Maitake Mushrooms dish was a bit too spicy and the smoky flavor of the mushrooms which the waitress mentioned was obscured by the hotness. The waitress and the hostess were both wonderful, attentive, upbeat and positive . We had a good opportunity to catch up with friends and spend a lot of time without anyone seeming to mind!
We were at Jack O’Neill’s for restaurant week which was great. Very nice menu and price. We’ll definitely go back.
On our reservation, I requested a window table. Upon arrival we were led to a viewless booth. I asked the hostess for a window table, and we were quickly led to one. Neither of the tables were marked "reserved". This seems unsystematic.
The service was friendly and personable, and food would have merited four stars, except my soup was served lukewarm. At dessert, our server told us the apple tart would be served warm, which is one of the main reasons I ordered it. It arrived at room temperature, and even slightly chilled in the center. Clearly insufficient time and attention had been given to heating it up. I was feeling chilly on this rainy Oct. evening, so these temperature discrepancies were particularly disappointing.
Delicious prix fix meal. The pumpkin bisque was excellent and the main was also great. The view is amazing in front of the ocean and our server Allison was exceptional. I will be back!
We received outstanding service from Ryleigh and Dylan. Very friendly and energetic staff. Very satisfied with the service.
Fantastic food and great service, beachfront views
New chef very creative with excellent quality
Difficult with parking and traffic so research before going. Either valet or park directly across the street.
Our server Allison was excellent. Knowledgeable friendly and patient. All the servers were efficient and polite, however for some reason the service was very slow. Asked for bread while waiting and it was excellent. They grill it with butter so it was warm and toasty. The food was WORTH the wait. Strikingly delicious, good portion sizes, lovely display. We did have to send the soup back because it was cold but it was promptly returned and outstanding.
The food during Restaurant Week was excellent but the service was not great. I think we had a new waiter. He brought our soup before even giving us water and certainly no wine. No napkins, no salt and pepper till we asked for it. My water has to be refilled by a m waiter. Hopefully this guy will get better as he works there longer.
My steak dish was delicious as was my salad. The food was plated very beautifully too.
My friends and I always talked about checking this out and what better way than to book a table during Restaurant Week. Every course was outstanding, the ambience was pleasant and the noise level was perfect given the dining room was pretty full. We gave the service high marks as well. We'll be coming back again!
We had an excellent 3-course diner to celebrate Restaurant Week Santa Cruz. Thank you for participating.
Rest week menu has good selection and value. Like to visit when it storming out to see the beach close up.
Our favorite place for breakfast. And enough more words to submit the review
We couldn't ask for a more wonderful service and pleasant server from Tracey. She definitely deserved the tips we gave her that night. You will understand if you have the privilege to have her as your server.
Excellent food with a beautiful view. The service was excellent. A lot of their tables for two are right against and facing the window.
Fantastic food & experience!
Keep up the awesome work!
Great service starting from making the reservation to the meal. Staff were nice, friendly and helpful
We liked the table by the window facing the beach. Our waiter was very good and not over bearing. The scallop dish had an exellent mixture of flavours. 1 each of that dish and a salad to split was plenty for the 2 of us.
Hard to beat the view, the ambiance, and the food! After a few visits though, I've seen consistent opportunities for improvement in service (ok) and time to receive food (too long, even when the restaurant doesn't seem busy). We'll be back, but hoping to see improvement.
Yucky food. Poorly considered. Exceptionally expensive. Zero value.
The service was great, but the food was way overpriced and oily.
Enjoyed my meal there. Awesome view, tasty food. Highly recommend!
The view of the beach was relaxing. The casual environment was welcoming. The service was incredibly efficient and friendly. Our Server Alden, made sure we were well fed and well cared for. He was knowledgable about the farms and origins of the food. The only disappointment was the “ meat and cheeses” board. There was only one cheese. A dry Parmesan like cheese. I’d would imagine with so many artisanal cheese makers in California, a better selection might be found. Just one cheese mongers opinion. Otherwise the the experience was delightful.
Thursday afternoon not busy. Wonderful waiter with a good personality. Beautiful view. Great lunch and good place to enjoy a dear friend.
Celebrating a special birthday at the Dream Inn. Enjoyed a peaceful breakfast in their restaurant, Jack O’Neil Lounge. The servers were efficient and charming, view of coastline lovely, restaurant decor super cool.
Beautiful view and setting for any celebration. The waiter was especially kind and fun. I highly recommend this place.
The food was to die for, so good, the crab cakes were crab through and through and very light, the main course so flavor full, fish for me coked to perfection, chicken for my company, and really good fresh vegetable accompaniment
the ambiance was ok, the decor not as lively as I am accustomed to and the waitress may have been spread too thin, but I didn't get the attention I thought I deserved. Except she did steer me to this delicious halibut and helped us figure out what we wanted to drink.
Convenient while staying at the ho.............tel.
The waitress did not pay attention to the order, missing and blame me as I change table. But I order the food and drink at the same time. In addition, food come without tableware for over 5mins.i can only look at the food and wait for the waitress to have eye contact then request the tableware and napkin.
Love this place!
Our server Alison was awesome! The food was super delicious and the atmosphere was great.
This had to be one of the BEST meals I've had in a long time. Excellent food and excellent service. All three of us enjoyed our dinner immenseley!!!! I can't wait to go back.
The service was extremely slow. It was not busy and it took more than 30 minutes just to get a beer and one mixed drink. Food was good, and location was great, but definitely not worth the wait.
I reserve a booth but the restaurant didn’t reserve for me
The food (Dream Inn Chowder and Spinach Quiche) was good but that was about it. The restaurant was very quiet. They did have a live flute playing for a little bit, but once that stopped it immediately felt like a library and made me not even want to talk to my significant other for fear everyone in the room would hear everything I said. Normally restaurants will have music playing the entire time, not only to fill the silence but also to set the vibe. Speaking of vibes--this restaurant had very weird ones. It felt awkward and the eye contact the guy who refilled our waters made with us was so intense it made both me and my boyfriend very uncomfortable. Our main waitress was extremely rude and impatient with us multiple times. She would say things like "So are you done yet??" when we were still deciding. Then, after we got starters, she grabbed our menus away from us, and we had to explain to her multiple times that we still wanted to order entrees later. She would just walk away after that instead of taking two seconds to say something like "Okay, let me know what you decide." I have never experienced such a rude waitress and uncomfortable restaurant. However, there was one reason we stayed: Hannah P. Although our interactions were very limited, she still treated us like we were good friends, and made our experience there better. It was my birthday and she was the only one who wished me a happy birthday--not even our main waitress did. She was the only person at the restaurant who was natural and accomodating. Her service was so good, we left a $20 bill just for her as we left. Everything besides Hannah was bad and if anyone else asks me how the dinner was there, I will be telling them not to go.
Great service and nice staff but very outdated. Brunch menu was limited and I couldn’t find any good seafood items which you would expect from the restaurant by the wharf. Wings fully covered in sauce but nothing was brought to clean hands. Nice draft beer but in kid sized glasses. Good views but nothings been updated in ~20-30 years both in the exterior and interior.
From the courtesy of the bartender upon our early arrival, to our server, Devon (sp?), couldn’t have been more top rate.
Quiche & huevos rancheros both delicious, enhanced by an ocean view. Keep up the good work, Jack’s!👍
Our server was the best Santa Cruz has to offer. Absolutely fantastic! Went back two days later and was disappointed not to see her working. Made the entire meal and dining experience exceptional!
We had the meat and cheese board and a couple drinks. Drinks where ok but the meat was cut way to thick and was tough. I am Italian and cured meats should be very thinly sliced you should be able to almost see through the meat. And the bar had more than one overly drunk persons that should have been cut off and escorted out but instead the bartenders keep serving them drinks
