After operating since 1886, the Lewisville Feed Mill on Main St in Old Town had seen its fair share of history & reinvention. There is something special about what the Polser family created over 100 years ago that lends itself to preservation. It's rare to find a restaurant that feels so comfortable in its own place and right - so written into the lore and landscape of a neighborhood. It seems as if J2 has always somehow resided at 119 E Main.
Today, J2 Steakhouse serves elevated Texas fare with a wonderful selection of dry aged locally sourced grassfed beef in the heart of downtown Lewisville. The dining experience is curated by a staff who strive together to maintain a warm yet unobtrusive balance of southern hospitality and high quality service.
A must try. Recommend this to anyone looking for great food at excellent prices. Service was excellent!!!
Food was excellent, service was great and they are very well price
This is a favorite place for steak. We have good service every time. In particular this time. We look forward to our next visit!
Excellent service- I was real surprise not to see only 1 server wearing a mask. Safety should be first
Great Place Excellent Steaks and Excellent Service looking forward to going back
We took our friends from Georgia and we all had a great time. The food was fantastic and our waiter, Dustin was the best we have had at J2. Highly recommend.
The food is the best. Our salad was crisp. The steaks were perfectly cooked to order and very tasty.
Party of 2 for an early-ish Saturday date night. We were seated at a nicely private booth table near the bar. Ambiance in this building is very pleasant. Not too fancy, not too casual, not too loud, just right.
Service was attentive and hit the right balance of friendly and professional. Very knowledgeable about the menu when asked for recommendations.
We ordered the butter poached lobster and fried ribs small plates along with a beet salad. The butter poached lobster was outstanding and worth a try although I probably wouldn't order again due to price level relative to other items on the menu. The fried ribs were crispy and tasty but the novelty wore off after a few bites...better for a party of four. The beet salad is a well-balanced and flavorful star menu item and I would order this again and again.
For mains, we split a ribeye burger and chicken fried steak. The burger was good and very juicy with good seasoning and char. A solid, but basic burger. The fries were incredibly underwhelming, limp, and very under-seasoned. The chicken fried steak was a nice cut of meat ruined by a couple factors. Soggy crust (even the parts not covered in gravy) and almost complete lack of seasoning. The gravy, potatoes, and green beans were good but couldn't make up for the disappointing centerpiece.
In summary, I would rate service and ambiance among the best in the area but food quality was very inconsistent.
It was some of the best food I’ve had in Texas; I normally don’t try seafood but their lobster appetizer was amazing
First time visit, didn't even know about them until Open Table. Was Highly impressed and shocked we hadn't heard of them. Great food, service, and super cool joint! Will book again!
2nd visit, Great food! Covid dining.....Server was respectful of our space and wore a mask. Booth was enclosed on three side so we felt it was safe.
Excellent food and service. Steak was tender and cooked perfectly, sides were delicious.
The experience would have been better if the server was wearing a mask and gloves. Also, is they remembered our anniversary which I included with the reservations as a special occasion.
This place is amazing. Rustic deco steakhouse with great service and even better food. We will definitely return.
It was a nice evening. Right now they have a limited menu but they had something for everyone. My husband had the ribeye and he said it was great. I had the filet and it was the best I had had. I am not a huge fan of Filet, but this was tender and cooked perfectly. I would order again. The brussel sprouts are delicious. It was a nice a relaxing evening.
Terrible service, we split a 14oz strip and it was cut in half which was about 1/4 inch thick.
The only thing in this place I would recommend is the bread.
This place will close down in about a year
We love J2 and the food is great!
It was an awesome restaurant. The food was better than expected.
We were celebrating an anniversary and this was our first time on a restaurant since the shelter in place orders. The staff was very professional and friendly. They genuinely wanted us to enjoy our experience. We felt very safe and the food was delicious! They also have a large patio area. J2 is a locally owned restaurant and I hope others will support them as we begin to return to normal.
Great food, great service, wonderful whiskey selection...overall a really great experience.
Our waitress was very good. Food was good, place was very clean.
For our first night out in months, it was great. Safety was perfect.
First time out in two months, Mother's Day. Everything was perfect. We sat outside in the shade. The pace of service was wonderful, plenty of time to enjoy the weather, food and ambiance. The shrimp cocktail for two was spicy and plentiful. The steak was cooked to perfection, very flavorful. Our server Anna was knowledgeable and attentive. We are looking forward to our next visit.
Had a booth and everyone seated apart across the restaurant. Brisket sandwich is my favorite.
This was our third trip to J2. Was somewhat disappointed to find a limited menu and out of Blanton's. The limited menu was my fault as I missed the large notice about the menu.
Food was good but for the money didn't really have that wow feeling when we left. Will probably try again but after careful consideration.
We had a wonderful time! I was impressed how impeccable they were with going by the rules. Everyone wore masks and 2 out of 3 tables had a No Seating sign on them. Food and service and ambiance was lovely!
Best Chicken Fried Steak I’ve ever eaten
We visited for a first time for a special occasion for 3 of us. Our server was delightful and attentive. They have a nice selection of wines and whiskeys. The food was mostly good, but it seemed a bit pretentious and over priced. All the food has sauces, nuts, special preparations, so it was a struggle to find something for a limited palate in our group. The highlights of our meal were the caesar salad, pretzel bread, and beef tatake starter. The scallops were very good. I tried the beef Wellington, which was decent, but not something I'll order again. The sides, though plentiful, were all a bit much in their flavors. The brussel sprouts were way too sweet, almost drenched in a glaze. The risotto was mushy and also sweet. We did like the broccolini, it had a nice smoky flavor, but we'd asked for it without the sauce on it, so I imagine it was probably normally sweet also. We split an espresso creme brulee. I didn't think it had much of a coffee flavor, plus the custard hadn't fully set. The decor is really interesting and I loved the wood and bits of ther original building. We want to go back and try the dry aged steaks and maybe some different sides. Be prepared to spend some cash.
We went here for brunch and everything we got was super flavorful . We were like thr only one there and didn't have great service which we thought was weird. But will be back. Their steaks are a lot not sure if it was worth the value get a steak.
We got a private dining room which was great. Service and food were fantastic.
The food was delicious! Steaks were grilled to perfection. Great date night place!
Best meal experience I’ve had in four years in the metroplex.
We always love the food! But there’s a new chef and I don’t really like big changes they make on menu. Bring back the green beans and sage potatoes
Outstanding meal and service. Wonderful "date night" with my wife.
My boyfriends 25th birthday the special occasion the night we attended dinner at J2. We kept the drinks going, ordered an appetizer, 2 entrees, 2 sides, and had dessert that was on the house. Everything listed above was delicious with excellent plating. Very excited to go during lunch.
We went to J2’s on 2/16 for brunch to celebrate our 41st anniversary. We were told immediately that the kitchen was short-staffed, so please bear with them. The food was good, but service was terrible. We had read so many reviews about how good J2’s was, but we were very disappointed. Friends who were with us had a previous experience with poor service at J2’s. We were also getting information about using this restaurant to cater a future bridal shower. The hostess said she was going to contact a manager? to get the information we were asking about. Never heard back from her. We are long-time residents of this area, and want them to succeed, but improvements are needed. Hopefully, evening dinner experiences are better.
Food was good although the caesar salad wasn't as fresh as it could have been. Some of the lettuce was brown.
