Food was very good and fresh. Service was timely and friendly but could have helped us out more since it was a group business lunch with options to share and space on the table. There weren't enough menus for everyone and no recommendations were made on sharing plates for the group. People who brought the food didn't know who ordered what. Ice tea was brought to the table in individual bottles which is "pizzaria-like" style. Rolls were very tasty and presented well. I would definitely come back again. The lava roll was excellent.
Luckily the food is outstanding that I keep coming back. Service is definitely something they want to work on. Polite but not timely and they tend to forget about you and not let you know where things are.
She said it was not high quality. The sushi fish was fresh
Our family dined at Izanami on Friday night - yes it was Valentines Day too, but the staffing for a Friday was noticeably low.
We waited close to half an hour to get our order taken and had almost no followup service during the meal. It appeared there was only one server for the entire front dining section - and that server was also filing the role of host/greeter. I couldn't tell if there were any different servers in the back section or not.
It was significant the only thing we got quickly was the bill.
Previous visits were much more enjoyable.
But the food was excellent. Most of my table had sushi and I had a bowl of Ramen. Everyone was satisfied. However, this restaurant lost points because of service. We were seated and given menus then ignored for the next ten minutes. No drinks, no "Hi, I'm your waitress", nothing. Only once we started commenting (loudly) did we get service and service afterwards continued in an unhurried pace. Not great. Don't let the reputation of the food suffer because the service is slow!
The restaurant smelled like rotting fish as soon as we stepped in. The sushi was mediocre, the nigiri was warm, and the ramen had no flavor - it was more like an oily and spicy water and the noodles were al dente.
Our server, Jenny, was great. She came back at appropriate times (not when we had food in our mouths) checking on how we were enjoying the food and our sake flights.
It's unfortunate that the only option for ramen was made with a beef broth. It would have been nice to have a veg-option that wasn't cold noodles.
This restaurant is very nice -- the setting, sitting and food were all very good. The waiters were very friendly and helpful. I would go back to this restaurant again. Thank you for a great restaurant in So. City!!
This place is a welcome addtiion to the SSF restaurant scene. The ramen is delicious. Try the extra spicy!
Great place for one of the best ramen in the area, bar none!
We ordered 2 soups, 1 salad, edamame and 4 sushi rolls plus Saki and we all had waters. The soup was never delivered to our table. The dressing on the salad was a mix of ginger and garlic with a bit of a smoky flavor. I didn't care for it but my friends liked it. The sushi was underwhelming. There was no real flavor, and it didn't taste fresh. My friend wanted to order a second Saki but had to wait forever to do it. The waiter never refilled our water. When the bill came, we were charged for the soups and had to tell the waiter to take them off since we never got them. To sum it up, there are way better sushi places. I wouldn't go back here.
Husband and I were craving sushi and found Izanami. We were seated promptly when we arrived. There were large parties: BDay party in a backroom; four large groups in the main dining area; plus families with little kids. Limited seats at the sushi bar. Waitresses were friendly, but service was a bit slow (there was only two of them; they could use one more waitress). We ordered 3 specialty rolls, sashimi, and 1 nigiri. The rolls were outstanding and the fish was very fresh. Prices are a bit more than where we usually go for sushi, but well worth the extra money. Had tiramisu for dessert that wasn't completely defrosted, but still tasted great. We'll be back again for excellent sushi!
Good hearty ramen for a cold day!
Friendly, efficient and accommodating service, fresh fish, good atmosphere, decent sake selection. Not AMAZING, but also fairly priced. Clean, healthy, yummy.
Made a noon reservation on OpenTable. When we showed up, they were very busy, and several walk-in groups waiting. I told them we had a reservation, the host confirmed by looking at a screen, but told us we would have to wait. Several walk-in groups were seated before us. The sushi we ordered was very good, but the appetizer we ordered was delivered after we were done with everything else. We waited around a very long time before the check was delivered, and we immediately gave them a credit card without letting the waiter leave the table. We ended up waiting a long time again, before they returned w/ the card and receipt.
I am so happy to find this place. Ramen seemed to be the most popular on this particular packed lunchtime. My companion and I ordered the shashimi assortment over rice which came with very flavorful miso soup. Unusual to find a ramen place where you can choose your type of broth. It was so busy staff were a little bit harried, but attentive. Cool, modern decor in restaurant. Sushi looked excellent too.
Made reservations for lunch (12:30pm) on Friday, and it was good that I did, as there was a line, although moderately long. We were seated immediately. The service was prompt, the Ramen noodle and sushi/sushimi menus were fairly extensive, and our orders arrived promptly.
I had the sushi combo A, which consists of 6 Nigiri and 6 California rolls. The ultimate test for any sushi is, of course, freshness of the fish, shrimp, etc., and the consistency of the rice rolls. In this case, it was all super fresh and prepared perfectly. The miso soup was excellent, and the price reasonable. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves Japanese cuisine. Next time, I'm going to try the Ramen. My friend ordered it, and was obviously enjoying it.
A great find in SSF. Very friendly staff, great food, especially the ramen. The lunch pricing is very reasonable and for our money, probably the best restaurant in SSF.
I found the sushi and the ramen to both be excellent! My daughter was comfortable and was able to run around a bit. I will definitely be going back for the authentic and wonderful food and the comfortable relaxed family-friendly environment.
Easily accommodated our group of nine people ranging from over 80 to 8 years in age, and varied food requirements.
Great tasting food, and varies. Go try the special sushi roll of the day always a winter and the lobster roll.
I would recommend to a friend, but not yet, the place has potential.
I tried the spicy garlic miso ramen and the mala tonkotsu ramen, and both had good soup, noodles, and egg. The weakest part of the ramen was the pork, which was ok but not as great as at most very good ramen places. The deep-fried gyoza was also ok, but I prefer pan-fried.
Great sushi spot as well as for ramen.
Huge portion sizes on the sushi, and the fish tasted very fresh. Seemed to be a very popular restaurant.
