Thank you for visiting Kenichi Izakaya Carbondale. An Izakaya is a type of informal Japanese pub. At sake breweries during the late 18th century, people in Japan began using sake kegs as stools and snacks were served. This small plates menu was designed to encourage sharing amongst friends and family. Food is prepared in multiple kitchens and arrives as it is ready to ensure freshness. We make the majority of our menu in house, from scratch, and use locally sourced ingredients whenever possible.
We offer full sushi bar, kitchen and bar.

Our food was fine but the service was terrible. Sat with empty drinks while our server walked by numerous times and finally had to ask if we were supposed to pay on the way out as our credit card sat on the table end forever.

It was our first visit here and we were a bit disappointed. The service was very slow and they forgot part of our order. The rolls were on but nothing special for the high prices. The ambiance was nice and we liked that our booth was quiet.

We enjoyed our meal very much,and our waiter was great. When we left, the bartender said goodbye and wished us well. The only negative was the young woman who showed us our table. She barely greeted us, and said nothing else. Not a good first impression. No smile. We will return for another meal.

Everything we ordered—shishito peppers, gyoza, karaage, bao buns, torched wagyu special, sushi roll, and spicy edamame—was absolutely delicious. It wasn’t cheap, but it was outstanding, and worth the price for a special occasion.

Always great. We love coming down from Aspen for dinner. The restaurant has a great vibe and different choices than Kenichi

Excellent choice in nearby Carbondale while visiting our daughter, her husband and our newborn granddaughter in Glenwood Springs. The restaurant was quite popular and busy so we sat at the bar. We started with saketini’s which were excellent. We ordered the scallop appetizer and the mushroom with pork belly appetizer. Both were delicious. We then had the hamachi, and finished up with a trio of sashimi… yellowtail, torched salmon and tuna. Again, everything was delicious. We opened a bottle of Drunken Whale sake to enjoy with dinner, very tasty, but ended up capping it and took most home. Both the food and bartending service were excellent. Highly recommend.

This was a great experience. The perfect setting, ambiance, service, atmosphere and the best food I’ve had in a very long time. I tried as many things on the menu that I could hold in and each item was an amazing experience from the fried chicken to several different sushi dishes. The Alaskan Black Cod was my favorite and the desert was killer. I am looking forward to going back again soon.

Wow! We didn’t know what to expect but went on a recommendation from a friend. Izakaya is fantastic. The service was exceptional and the general vibe was very friendly. The food was outstanding, and the design aesthetic of the restaurant looked like it was set in a much larger cosmopolitan city. Overall it really exceeded our expectations. They also have a gluten free menu which was a big bonus.

After arriving for our reservation for a table for 2, we opted to sit at the bar rather than the offered 2 top next to door. It was snowing outside. That’s the worst of it. Food great, sake great, service great, and recommendations outstanding. Love this place.

Arrived for an early reservation, but didn’t leave until 7:15 — had a great dining experience and can’t wait to go back. Forrest was our server and had great knowledge of the menu!

Love Izakaya! The sushi is super fresh and creative. The Kraft cocktails are masterful. The miso black cod is divine. The menu is inspired and inventive with seasonal cuisine. Outstanding service. Like coming home.

Our reservation was for 3 on a very busy Friday evening - when our guest became ill and we had to adjust numbers I also asked if we could possibly adjust our reservation time to much earlier. The hostess I spoke with on the phone as well as in person was helpful and as accommodating and polite as could be. Heather, our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about everything on the menu and helpful giving guidance when we asked. Oh and the food - simply fresh and delicious and amazing.

The experience was wonderful! Even if the food was terrible we still would have had the best time because our server was SO funny and amazing. Unfortunately I don't remember his name but he had a bun and a beard. The food was excellent, and the atmosphere was inviting and fun. Next time we're in Carbondale we will definitely come back!

Cozy and just energetic enough of an atmosphere. Lighting and music are perfect, spacing of tables allows for private conversation. Very attentive service, fresh nightly specials, food is consistently delicious. Warm greeting from friendly hostess. Thanks for another great evening, Izakaya. By far the best dining experience in Carbondale!
