I have been looking for a good Italian Restaurant in the area and this is it. Great menu and wine selection. I will definitely return.
Really great food, decent cocktails. Enjoyable but they had all the doors open on a cool day, maybe for covid ventilation. Service was good although the food came way to quickly. Appetizers and salad at the same time, followed right away by dinner. Didn't offer a wine list with dinner, seemed like we were being rushed....
I want to tout this place as a great place to go during the pandemic! Their outside seating is actually spaced the correct distance apart unlike many restaurants I have driven by. They are able to open huge parts of their glass walls and allow fresh air in which is great if you are eating inside. There is a second floor, but it's open, so inside seating also has lots of air circulation! The food was great. I am still avoiding eating at restaurants right now, but I feel very comfortable at this one. The patrons were also good about wearing masks when not actively eating. Bring a jacket!
I was impressed with the wait staff - our hostess told us right off that everyone had been vaccinated, and also wore masks. AND all were very friendly and efficient. The front door was open, so it was a bit chilly, but better to be safe. I believe the food was good value, and was very tasty. Our friend ordered for us - he was taking my husband and myself out to dinner for our birthdays, so I didn't get to order exactly what I would have liked, but it was all good, and I would go there again.
We found the restaurant by accident, but have been back three times even though we live 20 miles away. The staff is friendly, the food is good. Highlights were the appetizer platter with olives, grilled veg, salamis and cheeses. So good! Love the minestrone and the bread pudding. We will be back!
Warm friendly staff that didn’t rush you through your courses
Great food from appetizers to desserts and of course the entrees was delicious
Service felt like they were rushing us. Food was very good
Was seated inside, but they had the glass doors open which gave us the outdoor dining vibe. Tables and other customers we spread out appropriately and all of their staff were fully masked.
The food was on absolutely fantastic and the cocktails were on point.
Loved the food and the ambiance was wonderful...great service
The staff was very accommodating of our Covid restrictions, the food was delicious, the music was lovely, the drinks were great!
Very good food, but the seafood wasn't as fresh as last time.
The calamari and shrimp appetizer was very good and the lobster ravioli main dish was excellent. My only critique was the martini . . . it was much too sweet (I prefer dry martinis). Otherwise, it is a good restaurant, one worth a return trip.
Great place to go..
This was our first time to Italy on Gilman and we were pleasantly surprised. A couple of dishes were beyond awesome: the gnocchi (with brown butter/sage) and the coconut cream pie. Smoked salmon salad, bruschetta, chicken parmigiana, side veggies -- all were very good. The cost was reasonable and we had food to take home for the next day. The waiter was very attentive and it was great to be inside a restaurant with wide open windows and spaced tables for a feeling of safety. We will definitely go back, and discovering it's owned by the same person who owns Casa Latina and many of our other fav little Mexican restaurants was an added surprise.
Staffs are pleasant and food is good.
We love our lunches at Italy on Gilman. We come 2-3 times a week. Excellent food and great value. They also have a varied--and interesting--cocktail menu.
Food was delicious. Would definitely come back again.
Anniversary dinner - large groups with kids can get loud, but the food and service made up for it!
First meal out.
I enjoyed the evening. The service was excellent. Food arrived in a timely manner and the pl;ate presentation was attractive. I look forward to returning in the near future.
It was a great experience. The food was really good. I will definitely be back.
Average Italian food. On par with Olive Garden.
Sitting by the open doors is like sitting outside with some protection from wind and cold. Very comfortable.
Excellent food! Excellent service! We will return
I love this establishment! The service is excellent and the food is out of this world!
Very nice but would have rather been inside as it was cold. The overhead heater did not do the trick. And people came and went from the parking lot by our table instead of going around to the front door. It should have been roped off. The food is excellent as was the service. Looking very forward to eating inside again!
Italy on Gilman is one of the best Italian restaurants in Berkeley! Everything on the menu is great and they are taking very good precautions during covid times so that everyone is safe and well taken care of. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for good Italian food!
We ordered the La Grotta salad, and homemade gnocchi (we added sausage)
it was amazing!!
Great drinks too.....
Main dish was as good as it gets....
Really good food. We enjoyed the cheese appetizer and other dishes. All were very good.
Restaurant well set up for outdoor dining. Tables distanced and heat lamps near day. Good friending service. Kitchen was quick. Food was very good. Especially the Shrimp w linguini, the bruschetta and the creme brûlée
Very good food and value, as usual. Great waiter. No COVID concern. Easy parking. We will keep coming.
We had a great lunch on the patio during the mandated COVID-19 restaurant guidelines. We ordered two salads and two lunch entrees. We had a caprese salad made with fresh mozzarella, however this was not the fresh mozzarella in water which is softer. It was made with the vacuum packed fresh mozzarella, so it was firmer. The basil was also a little bit bruised, but edible. I am picky about my caprese salad as each ingredient must be good for the overall salad to be great. This was not great, but good enough for lunch. We also had a Caesar salad which was dressed very well and not over dressed. It was a good compliment to the sausage pizza. The sausage pizza was a little toasty on the crust, but that was fine as the rest was really tasty! The other entree was the Risotto al Tartufo di Funghi, was very good and had a topping of peppery arugula, shaved Parmesan, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze. The waitress was very friendly, helpful, and attentive to our needs. We loved the service at this restaurant. Great place for a weekday lunch! We’ll be back!
We’ll be back for sure.
They have gluten free pasta😊
From the beginning to the end of my reservation process, meal, etc. I must say I loved this place! There's a parking lot tent which was set up pretty cute for Valentine's Day and had multiple heat lamps. The hostess did a great job communicating table wait time/availability and checking in during our meal. The restaurant itself was well lit and I wish I had been here before COVID (if it was open then). I had the scampi pasta and my bf had the ciopinno, both dishes were delicious!! If there was room for dessert I would've tried something because the options were great. EAT HERE :)
This has become one of our new favorite spots. We have been VERY apprehensive about going ANYWHERE to eat but they were extremely attentive to covid concerns and care. The food was incredible and the service was beyond reproach.
The cocktail I ordered was mostly ice not worth $12.00. The cocktail were only half full. The food was good but my husband order pasta with sausage. The sausage tasted like spam it was terrible did not eat it. When I questioned it waiter said it was sausage but did not take the extra $6.00 off the bill for it.
This is one of my favorite sidewalk cafes. They were early adopters during the pandemic and when there's a special occasion like Valentine's Day they go to the next level with a big beautiful white tent, candles on the tables, flowers ... the whole 9 yards.
Considering how incredibly busy they can be with in person dining as well as take out the service is amazing. You have to be patient in the Bay Area. Most small businesses are understaffed, stressed by the conditions, surely doing the best they can.
Is it a little pricey? Yes but the Lobster Ravioli was worth every penny. If only the bread was still warm when it arrived. Then I'd have given them 5 stars all the way around.
We had a very good lunch at Italy On Gilman the Cioppino and the Lasagna were both really good and super hot we also enjoyed the Bruschetta as an appetizer, very friendly and efficient staff we will definitely return.
Lovely place, great food. Nice servers. Our favorite Italian place in Berkeley!
I found Italy on Gilman accidentally a few months ago when out of town visitors asked me to find an Italian restaurant on a holiday weekend Saturday night - at 3 PM! Of course all the usual hot spots were fully booked, so I pulled up Yelp and found this place. I made a reservation, then took a drive by to check it out. Believe it or not, it is in a strip mall, but it is large, beautifully appointed, had tons of outdoor dining, great service and... the Food! OMG so good, so authentic. Love the gnocchi, tortellini, chicken parmigiana, ravioli, even the ribeye. And the desserts are off the hook also. Not to be missed.
