Very good food and value, as usual. Great waiter. No COVID concern. Easy parking. We will keep coming.
We had a great lunch on the patio during the mandated COVID-19 restaurant guidelines. We ordered two salads and two lunch entrees. We had a caprese salad made with fresh mozzarella, however this was not the fresh mozzarella in water which is softer. It was made with the vacuum packed fresh mozzarella, so it was firmer. The basil was also a little bit bruised, but edible. I am picky about my caprese salad as each ingredient must be good for the overall salad to be great. This was not great, but good enough for lunch. We also had a Caesar salad which was dressed very well and not over dressed. It was a good compliment to the sausage pizza. The sausage pizza was a little toasty on the crust, but that was fine as the rest was really tasty! The other entree was the Risotto al Tartufo di Funghi, was very good and had a topping of peppery arugula, shaved Parmesan, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze. The waitress was very friendly, helpful, and attentive to our needs. We loved the service at this restaurant. Great place for a weekday lunch! We’ll be back!
We’ll be back for sure.
They have gluten free pasta😊
From the beginning to the end of my reservation process, meal, etc. I must say I loved this place! There's a parking lot tent which was set up pretty cute for Valentine's Day and had multiple heat lamps. The hostess did a great job communicating table wait time/availability and checking in during our meal. The restaurant itself was well lit and I wish I had been here before COVID (if it was open then). I had the scampi pasta and my bf had the ciopinno, both dishes were delicious!! If there was room for dessert I would've tried something because the options were great. EAT HERE :)
This has become one of our new favorite spots. We have been VERY apprehensive about going ANYWHERE to eat but they were extremely attentive to covid concerns and care. The food was incredible and the service was beyond reproach.
The cocktail I ordered was mostly ice not worth $12.00. The cocktail were only half full. The food was good but my husband order pasta with sausage. The sausage tasted like spam it was terrible did not eat it. When I questioned it waiter said it was sausage but did not take the extra $6.00 off the bill for it.
This is one of my favorite sidewalk cafes. They were early adopters during the pandemic and when there's a special occasion like Valentine's Day they go to the next level with a big beautiful white tent, candles on the tables, flowers ... the whole 9 yards.
Considering how incredibly busy they can be with in person dining as well as take out the service is amazing. You have to be patient in the Bay Area. Most small businesses are understaffed, stressed by the conditions, surely doing the best they can.
Is it a little pricey? Yes but the Lobster Ravioli was worth every penny. If only the bread was still warm when it arrived. Then I'd have given them 5 stars all the way around.
We had a very good lunch at Italy On Gilman the Cioppino and the Lasagna were both really good and super hot we also enjoyed the Bruschetta as an appetizer, very friendly and efficient staff we will definitely return.
Lovely place, great food. Nice servers. Our favorite Italian place in Berkeley!
I found Italy on Gilman accidentally a few months ago when out of town visitors asked me to find an Italian restaurant on a holiday weekend Saturday night - at 3 PM! Of course all the usual hot spots were fully booked, so I pulled up Yelp and found this place. I made a reservation, then took a drive by to check it out. Believe it or not, it is in a strip mall, but it is large, beautifully appointed, had tons of outdoor dining, great service and... the Food! OMG so good, so authentic. Love the gnocchi, tortellini, chicken parmigiana, ravioli, even the ribeye. And the desserts are off the hook also. Not to be missed.
LOVE the lobster ravioli & all the craft cocktails here, hence we keep coming back even though its a bit pricy for our budget (would say price is as expected for what you are getting). Service was fast but didn't feel rushed but the server kept forgetting useful items (ie. a serving spoon and plates for shared appetizers) but likely a result of them being busy. Sadly the outdoor heater wasn't working and it was COLD, but I know they were hoping to fix this ASAP. Over all love this place and always want to come on date nights.
It was my third trip to Otaly on Gilman
Great outdoor tables during this weird COVID time. Yummy lasagna, and chicken parm sandwich. Loved their fries! I would definitely go back.
Really enjoyed it but for espresso.
We enjoyed a delicious outdoor dinner at Italy on Gilman. The restaurant appeared to be taking appropriate COVID precautions, the servers were attentive, and we really enjoyed our food. Between the 2 of us, we shared the fried burrata, a Caesar salad, a pizza, and chicken parmesan, which were all very tasty. We had enough pizza and chicken leftover for a 2nd dinner the next night. I'd rather be able to eat indoors again, but the restaurant did their best to make outdoor seating workable in February, and it was nice to eat out finally.
We got appetizers, entree’s, and dessert and let me tell you, it was AMAZING! There are 2 levels of balcony to sit for outdoor dining and heaters over each table to keep you toasty while eating
The food and service was great, even in the rain and wind the restaurant staff made us feel comfortable and SAFE. Food was great, we had the fried burrata arugula salad, lobster ravioli and linguine pescatore with recommended glasses of wine (very generous pour)! Highly recommend the banana caramela dessert if you like bananas, rum, gelato! Cannot wait to dine here again.
It was my birthday and the last meal I had before the second Stay at Home order. It was great food and excellent service. A nice memory to hold onto until we can all gather in person again.
Food was excellent my waitress was very busy but very nice I love the margaritas
My wife and I have been having lunch here once a week for the past month. We brought 2 friends this last time. We love the food--and they did, too. The service is attentive, the value is exceptional. Lots of outdoor tables. We're hoping they are able to hang on during the pandemic because this is a place where we'd like to eat for years to come. A great local restaurant.
Nice outdoor atmosphere, menu and food quality at this new Italian in the Gilman District. Worth a visit especially on a sunny day to take advantage of the sun, friendly service and good food.
Food and service were excellent! We liked the music too. The wobbly table was our only issue. It was the perfect place for our celebration.
The food tastes delicious. The staff is professional, knowledgeable about the menu, and Coiv19 prepared. The specials are my favorite and Italy on Gilman has become my go-to place for my favorite guests and close friends. The deserts are perfect after a delicious meal.
It was a perfect day for outdoor dining. We went expecting to have brunch, but the brunch menu has been discontinued for now. We shared the beet and mango salad, a calzone and a pizza, also 2 desserts. Everything was delicious! The desserts were incredible! My only minor criticism was that our server was wearing an obnoxious amount of fragrance.
I’ve been to Italy on Gilman 3 times now and the food has all been outstanding. I’d like to try everything on the menu!
We felt very COVID safe at the upstairs outdoor dining, and comfortable with the heat lamps. Service was friendly and well paced, and the food was good and plentiful. Desserts were excellent!
Good variety and quality. COVID distancing. Nice tables on balcony.
Tried it for the first time and will certainly come again. Friendly and knowledgable staff. Food was perfectly cooked and flavourful. Very good options on the desserts. Really had a good time with my family .
Absolutely delicious and delightful. The clams were to die for - perfect in a buttery lemony brig that I could just stopped there and bee fully satisfied. But we continued with the bruschetta on perfect toast. The cheese platter outstanding but the perfect piece was he lobster ravioli. OMG. This place totally exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend.
What a treat to be able to discover this restaurant and sample their amazing food. We had the bistecca, scampi di gamberetti as well as the mozzarella caprese and fritto misto. Everything was prepared to perfection. The prices were reasonable. Really... 5 stars all around. Hope to return soon.
Airy with tables spaced out in a big place, the food was delicious.
It has become my favorite Italian restaurant in this area. I cannot say enough. I have written previous reviews on it.
The drinks and food were delicious. The ambience was a little cold as windows and doors were kept open (due to COVID restrictions) and a cold front moving through the Bay Area.
Great food, welcoming service, friendly staff. We go there often.
This has become my favorite Italian restaurant in the area. I have now gone two weekends in a row and they have a very safe protocol with plenty of spacing and open doors. Both guests that I have taken have raved about the food. I will continue going to keep on trying different items on the menu. So far I have had the veal marsala and the ravioli stuffed with lobster and a Caesar salad. Everything is excellent. Combine that with outstanding service from Emmanuel and you have a perfect experience. I will try going to dinner sometime since I’ve only done lunch. I recommend it one hundred percent.
Appetizers were delicious. Main dishes were just ok. Waiter was not as attentive and we had to wave him down. I asked for peppers and did not receive them. Cocktails and Drinks came after food came. Ordered that at the same time. Great ambiance and location but the staff needs to be more attentive. Probably won’t be coming back.
FANTASTIC!!!! Everything was great. The risotto di fungi was to die for.
The ciopinno was full of mussels, clams, mussels, salmon, and crab. The broth was tasty. The rib eye steak was cooked perfectly. We sat outside on the upstairs balcony. It was a beautiful, sunny day. The server was excellent. The music was eclectic. Parking was easy. There's a lot and plenty of street parking too.
Excellent in every way, from starters to espresso. Superb veal marsala and lobster ravioli, great cocktails, impeccable service, nice COVID-safe seating.
Very good food and excellent wine list. Service was spot-on. Always enjoyed this venue, even in its past incarnations. I really hope that this place makes it!
We enjoyed it and will be back.
