Isola Little Italy
I have vivid memories of my grandmother turning plain bread into amazing desserts, simple apples into incredible fritters sprinkled with a little sugar and honey, and even treating my sunburns with olive oil. Thirty years later, I still savor every meal and moment.
Isola is proud to serve the finest local ingredients, dalla vite, from the vine. I hope you enjoy every bite, plucked from my family tree for your table. Buon appetito!
The place was rustic and loud and seemed to cater to the younger crowd; 20 through 30’s. The pizza was good however the Bolognese was not one of our favorites. Stick with the pizza and you won’t be disappointed.
Nice staff.. cute interior except for back of place is removed and very bland-they need to open it up and make it more aesthetic - waitress forgot one dish we ordered and pizza took way too long and was ‘ok’.. nothing to write home about..
The traditional Neapolitan style margarita pizza was excellent. The wine our waitress recommended from the family reserve was great. And the chocolate pudding dessert with whipped cream (budoni?) made my day! The bathroom lighting is too dark.
Got in at happy hour. That was awesome. Big pizza by HH standards and my 6 year old loved it. The beet salad was good too. Thumbs up.
It was NYE and we were thankful to find somewhere for a small group of friends that didn’t have a set menu but still had good food in an area a little away from all the madness. Noise level also meant we could actually have a conversation without shouting.
The pizza’s and bruschetta we had were fine but nothing mind blowing, a little softer underneath for a Napolitan style pizza than I would’ve liked. Value was good though. Wine was great and reasonably priced, and we had Prosecco at midnight.
Our server was sweet but clearly the staff were also having a bit of a merry new year, which meant the service could have been better and we were often having to chase things up and had a large collection of glasses on our table.
I would be curious to go back on a regular service night and see how things differ. A solid option in Little Italy but not a super memorable meal.
My boyfriend and I attempted to go here and the service was absolutely awful!!! We made a reservation and when we got there we were seated outside. It was quite chilly so we requested to be moved to inside and were told that they were reserved. The funny thing is that I too had a reservation and wasn’t asked if I wanted inside or outside. It took over 20 minutes to get our drinks and still no one sat at the tables inside! We asked if we could customize the pizzas and they said yes. Upon trying to order we requested a custom pizza and they told
is it wasn’t possible. The waitress and hostess were both incredibly rude so we ended up cutting our losses and left.
NYE dinner, the pizza was very good, the service was a bit slow, our server wasn’t very attentive.
It was great. The food is amazing. The problem was my 9 month old daughter. She was squirming around for an hour and whining like crazy. It’s her first New Year and I feel like she should have been more thankful and well-behaved. Whatcha gonna do? 🤷🏽♀️
Everything was great except we felt a bit ignored when we first walked in. The server walked past us, made eye contact but did not smile or welcome us. The host must have been elsewhere but the server could have shown at least a tiny bit of a welcoming gesture towards us. I had to walk to the bar and then was told to look for the host. Other than this which luckily didn’t leave a bad taste in my mouth for dinner everything else was great. The pizza was incredible. We ordered two and were not able to finish the two. The burrata and prosciutto was a great appetizer. The server also did a great job at suggesting a wine to pair with the dinner.
It use to be good . But the food was horrible and cold . The server behaved as if she was doing us a favor and was busy chatting with another server . Will never go here . This place has really gone bad .
Isola has one of my favorite Neapolitan style pizzas in town. Nice traditional crust. If you like Naples style pie, you will not be disappointed here. Friendly staff, too.
Great place for an amazing and quick meal! Service was so friendly and such a great atmosphere.
Very nice Neapolitan style pizza with quality ingredients. I'll be back.
Went specifically for the pizza because of reviews, very disappointing. Pizza was limp and wet but tasty.
We loved the atmosphere of this restaurant! I shared a Burrata pizza and it was delicious. The waitress recommended the Budino for dessert and I am so glad she did. It was delightful.
Our reserved table was located at the entrance and hostess station where one in our party kept getting bumped by everybody. We ordered a cheese tray and requested more bread but it took 20 minutes before additional bread came with our appetizer. We would’ve had many more cocktails had the waitress asked us if we were interested. And no pepperoni for pizza!??!
I made a reservation for 2 and when we showed up barely any of the tables were being utilized but they only offered us outside seating in front or back. We chose back seating and sat there for about 10 minutes with no one coming over to take our order, but we were cold anyway so we asked to sit inside. Still barely any tables were being utilized but they tried to seat us at a table where the seats were sitting on the same side on a bench.. which we didn’t want at all. So we asked for a regular table as there were many. They then sat us at a crappy back table against a wall that was probably the worst table in the whole place. We decided to leave and probably won’t be going back.
The pizza was delicious, the salad portions were very generous, and the service was super attentive. I wouldn’t call this place affordable, but it was nice while on vacation.
Thank you for the wonderful experience that your servers provided us on our visit to Little Italy. The food and the ambience was well worth it.
Really nice restaurant- perhaps the most authentic Italian restaurant in San Diego. Excellence appetizer of grilled eggplant and a arugula salad. Pizza has a terrific char- Little soft in the middle but otherwise excellent consistency.
Excellent service. Food very good, specially pizza’s. Nice ambience. Great wine list
Very good vibe in the Little Italy section of town. Had enough food variety, although mostly pizzas. Wine selection was very good and the service was outstanding! I’d definitely come here again.
I have been to Isola several times before and always thoroughly enjoyed it. Saturday night the food and service was not as good as it was in the past.
We had a 20 person bday party for my bfs birthday and it was an unforgettable experience! They put us on the back patio which was fabulous bc we had our space. Megan was our server and she was patient, kind and very professional! Highly recommend.
Food was excellent. Get the shrimp and polenta appetizer!
amazing placd i loved it so much. amazing
The restaurant is really cozy, tasty and romantic.
I loved it a lot
Excellent pizza. Perfectly cooked Al dente pasta. Octopus dish and burrata dish were just so very nicely done and flavorful. The chef's know what they're doing and the service was also great.
Cibo dozzinale anche se la pizza non era malvagia (ma troppo cara!). Pesce (polpo) duro e davvero poco (erano più patate che pesce...!)
Servizio approssimativo e disattento. Interno troppo rumoroso per conversare a cena.
Service was excellent. Food was good. The pizzas were over cooked and cut so large and awkward - difficult to eat. Cheese try was good but not great. Wish we would have been told what cheese was which. Other than that, ingredients were fresh and bread was delicious. Ambience was very nice and cozy for me, my daughter and her friend.
We had a large group and the waitress did a great job accommodating us. I really like the back patio and would recommend seating there if you wanted to be outside. The food and service are consistently outstanding. The wine list is exceptional.
We came here for dinner last week and ordered the chicken and the four meat pizza. The chicken was dry and the vegetables that came with it were literally charred. They weren’t just well done, they were black and inedible. The pizza was so greasy that we decided to take it home and heat it at home without the meat. We would not return.
Great Italian food in little Italy with amazing service. We love coming here when we’re in San Diego!
Always delicious food great service and an amazing Happy Hour
I have been to the La Jolla location a couple of times and this one was every bit as good. Pizza is so good it is all I ever have with a salad, but I cannot imagine anywhere else is much better. Even with sitting outside, it was easy to talk
If you are around it is worth they try
Delicious food and excellent happy hour!
Waited 20 mins when we had a reservation. Food service was very slow. They gave us a free dessert to comp the bad service. Food was amazing
great product esp that pizza. best crust i’ve ever had including other neopolitan pizza restaurants and italy! a miracle really. only complaint is i was impressed by how dirty the gray cushions were in the little italy location—
Large filthy black outlines of peoples sweaty shadows which is kind of hard to overlook even for people who aren’t hyper sensitive to that sort of thing.I recommend they spend a little money and replace those cushions against the wall in the little Italy location. Other than that, it was great
We were visiting San Diego for the holiday weekend and Isola was one of the few restaurants that was able to accommodate our party of 12. We wanted hearty Italian food and decided on this for the great reviews. When we got there, my friend wanted a moscow mule (strike 1- they only had wine and beer). Then she asked for Sangria (strike 2- no sangria!). She then ordered the mussels with broth on the menu (strike 3- they had NO mussels that day!). Another member of our party ordered the angus sirloin medium well and it came out disgustingly tough and rubbery and flavorless. We wanted more pasta options but this restaurant had a lot of pizza options which were actually good flavors and unique. I wished I had really looked at the menu before we committed to this restaurant among all the ones in Little Italy. Lastly, my friend got cannolis for a birthday dessert... yes! Right?! No, it was eh... a little runny lemon filling with a cherry stuck in it. Why couldn’t it be a basic creamy ricotta filling?! It just wasn’t what the kind of place we were wanting on this particular occasion.
Other than that, those in our party who ordered margherita pizzas, the salmon, and the spicy shrimp with polenta enjoyed their dishes. The bruschetta was great too.
I don’t think I’d ever come back with all the options in Little Italy.
It was nice but too hot inside.
