Island Creek Oyster Bar - Boston
Looking for another reservation? Visit one of our sister restaurants: Island Creek Oyster Bar (Burlington), Row 34 (Boston & Portsmouth), Eastern Standard, Branch Line, and our cocktail bar, The Hawthorne.
The bartender was remarkably rude and the food while decent it’s not up to the usual standards. The fish was slightly overcooked and dry. Chalk it up to a substandard experience. I’ll be back fingers crossed
Service and food both excellent. Enjoyed our experience. 2nd time to visit and will definitely go back.
Oysters are a must. Good and wine selection is good.
Great food and great drinks
I would definitely recommend Island Creek Oyster Bar. I'd been there a couple of times before both times for brunch. This was my first time going for dinner and I was accompanied by 3 others in my group for a new job celebration. The new job person specifically wanted oysters on the half shell and this was his pick. None of the rest of us like oysters that way, but the rest of the menu was so yummy it was not a problem.
I got the smoked bluefish cake for us to share. I was thinking along the lines of smoked bluefish pate' but this was very much like a crabcake except made with bluefish. We all dived in and swooned about the deliciousness of it all. and that continued through all of our entrees scallop plate for two of us, FRIED oyster basket for me (Yum, Yum, Yummiest!) and mussels and more for the other person. Not much conversation as we delighted in our choices. And even though we were kind of full, we pushed on to dessert--all perfect endings to the meal. The wine list is interesting and varied and I enjoyed my Gruner Veltliner--the first sparkling one I'd tasted. The rest of my group was also happy with their various choices of wine and beer. We all agreed that we'd had some recent experiences dining out that left us disappointed. This was NOT one of them. If you are going to pay for fine dining, best to have a memorable fine dining experience. We did.
Out of all the restaurants I visited on my vacation to Boston, this one had the best service by far. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The food was exactly what we were looking for, too.
Great place except for a deafening thump-thump music track that forces everyone to yell. Why is this necessary? The food was great, with a fine beer/wine selection.
Not enough service staff. The waitress was great but clearly over worked. Had to stop her multiple times. Lobster roll was not great and my scallops were not cooked through
Very good. Modern twist to Boston food. Our waiter was excellent. Made us feel special for our Anniversary and knew his stuff about oysters.
Love this restaurant. Very hard to get reservations but worth it. A bit loud but we head there every time we are in Boston
I always eat different kinds of oysters, but they are very delicious. Also, the meat was very delicious
We love to go to Island Creek whenever we have a good excuse. This past visit was probably the best ever. The oysters and food were amazing as always but the best part of the evening was really our server, Mario. He was knowledgeable and funny and every recommendation he made was spot on.
Best oysters in town.
Awesome, as always!
Wonderful oysters, excellent attention to detail. They made a birthday very special with personalized menu!
We had a reservation before Red Sox game , because this restaurant is near to Fenway park. We shered cram chowder and lobster roe noodles, they served half meals on each plate. We had fresh oysters as well. Delicious food and good service, we'll come again.
Overall the amount they are charging, it should have been better, I got the lobster roe noodles which were good however my sister got the halibut, it’s a horrible shame that it was over cooked she had to use a knife to cut it. The server was okay, seemed to be in a rush to turnover the table once we sat down and didn’t really check on us. I just expected I’m paying $37-$39 an entree, I would have wanted better quality, and there are plenty of other excellent restaurants around.
We enjoyed our experience quite a bit. Having said that the hostess was quite cold and unfriendly. The bartender and the waitress were great as was the food. However the person walking around monitoring tablea every few minutes was distracting and annoying.
I took my wife ror her birthday. Spent $200+ and didnt even get a complimentary dessert for her. That's never happened before!
We love this place. Never disappoints! Oyster sliders and the pie are always on our agenda
Excellent as always!
Absolutely wonderful food, drink, service and ambience. Celebrated a very close friend’s birthday and we had amazingly fresh oysters, shrimp cocktail, a terrific crab cake...and that was just our appetizers. Entrees included a spot-on burger cooked perfectly with fried oysters, pickled onions and horseradish mayo and a delicious lobster roll. No real room for dessert but we sucked it up and got an excellent blueberry crisp and also the Bananafee Pie, which was ridiculously good.
Loved the oysters — very fresh and tasty! Like the lobster, but the brioche on the lobster roll can be improved. The service was good and friendly.
We chose Island Creek for a special celebration as it is usually lively, fun and delicious. The night we went, unfortunately, it was horrendously slow service (though our waitress was lovely) and strangely empty. The lights hadn’t been dimmed like they usually were and we waited for an unusually long time for our food. I felt bad because I had chosen this place especially for its fun and festive atmosphere. I’m hopeful that this was just an off night but I certainly left a bit disappointed at the experience.
Have eaten at ICOB many times and keep coming back because of the quality--food, service and vibe. This last visit was exceptional.
We had 8;00 reservations but it was 8:40 when we were finally seated. It was as another 15 minutes before we placed our order and another 10 minutes when I had to request bread and butter. The fried oysters were greaseless and briny. The salad had a very good vinaigrette, the bass ceviche was good and the assorted oysters were treated with respect, the black bass was perfectly cooked and the cod was well done but the scallops were tough and needed a sharp knife to cut. We shared a rather large slice of banana cream pie which was destroyed by one of our party. The wine list was good with quality wines by the glass
From the moment we walked in the staff was welcoming and friendly. The ambiance is amazing and it is the perfect blend of energetic without being overly noisy. The artwork on the walls is very hip and cool and there’s a lot to look at. We had the lobster bisque, clam chowder and a wide range of oysters. Our server, Michelle, was super knowledgeable about the different varieties of oysters and had great recommendations of which ones we would like based off our preferences. One of her suggestions, the East Cape, was our absolute favorite. The chowder was so delicious as well. The hostesses at the front even charged my phone for me because it had died from sightseeing the city during the day. We loved every minute of our dinner date at this restaurant. Highly recommend it to any one looking for a taste of New England!
I loved the relaxed feel of this place – I definitely would return to try more dishes. The lobster roll amazing and Service was very friendly and well-timed, even though the place was full we never felt rushed!
Food continues to be great. Wine list has continue to increase in prices - wish they offered more good wines in the 50-60 range.
I sat at the bar and had good service.
Absolutely beautiful. The service was amazing, friendly and attentive staff! Would highly recommend this place. Thank you for the experience!
Worth the trip. Expensive. But the oysters was as good as anywhere in the world. Im not fan of Lobster roll but if you are definitely order it. I think you share the lobster roll and the lobster roe noodles.
Waiter was rude, inconsiderate and trying to turn the table. Food...,lackluster
Fantastic Food & Service — Matt was wonderful.
Notwithstanding all the great reviews, I wasn't that impressed. Ate at the bar. Crispy oyster slider was one very small, over-battered oyster on a very small bun. (I never, ever complain about portion size, but this was teeny.) Then a crab pasta dish that other reviewers have liked and which the bartender raved about but which I thought mainly tasted of breadcrumbs. On the plus side, the bartender was very nice, as was the guy sitting next to me at the bar. And the biscuit was INCREDIBLE.
Food had no taste.
Overly priced. If you love drinking, it would be better to go. If not, price is crazy there
Outstanding as usual.
The Hummingbird Cake was phenomenal. Service was perfect, attentive, and timely. The food came out great.
Very disappointing. All 4 of us received fish dinners that were over cooked. We have been twice before but this experience made us decide we will not be returning. We made a comment regarding the low quality of food to the manager and he didn’t seem to care. Also, online I could only get a table at 5:45. We didn’t want to eat that early but since we liked it in the past we took the reservation. From 6pm til we left at 8pm half the tables were empty. Will not be returning.
Another excellent experience at ICOB. Crispy calamari and heavenly halibut were supported by friendly hostess, our sage server, and a special birthday touch. Bravo ICOB team!
