International Smoke Del Mar

Outside seating is very pleasant.
Our waiter was spot on. Attentive but not intrusive. At one point I decided to slice the chicken breast sandwich in half, and suddenly the waiter appears with a steak knife.
We ordered several items to share. The cornbread muffins are the best ever. Moist and tender center, delicious (I ordered two more to go), topped with slightly spicy sauce. The falafel was outstanding both in taste and presentation. The chicken breast sandwich was just tasty but nothing special.
Being that we arrived at 11:00 AM, we passed on ordering cocktails and ordered lemonade. Wishing they offered more than just tea or lemonade, something on par with the creative non-alcoholic drinks offered at Campfire.
We look forward to returning to IS to try the ribs, the banh mi, and more.
My second time eating there in a week. I brought a couple who were celebrating an anniversary and only mentioned that while checking in. In the time it took to walk to our table they had a note ready wishing them a happy anniversary. Nice touch. I was dying to try the seafood platter but after it came thought it was overpriced for what it was. I will not get that again unless they reduce the price by $20. The drinks were not so great this time around. The Mai tai in the spam can was way too sweet and the other two drinks we ordered didn't go over well. Hmm I had better luck the first time I was here. Most things were very good but I think they overdo the "smoke" flavor. The broccolini should have been just charred on the grill. The Mediterranean sea bass is consistently good. The salmon was in a tasty prep but was too well done for my taste especially after I asked for it medium rare. Server forgot one appetizer. I like the lively room and music- it makes for a festive night out.
Wonderful place to enjoy delicious food! Second International Smoke restaurant we’ve been to(San Francisco was other). Most items were available, but missed the brussel sprouts.
Almost everything on the menu is cooked in and covered with the same very heavy spices: combinations of chili sauce, red pepper, curry, jalapeno, and heavy garlic. Very small servings of vegetables, really just garnishes. Even those of us who like spicy food couldn't finish the ribs. We don't plan to eat there again.
Long wait time to be served. Food was average.
Overall giving 3 stars. The service was great and atmosphere was cool. Our server Karen was awesome and gave us the complete run down and was really knowledgeable. The food however was disappointingly mediocre. The shaking beef and Mac n cheese were good. However the boa buns were terrible (sent back, and taken off our bill) and the NY was just "alright", especially for a 48$ steak, nor did it come with the BBQ onions side. Overall neat experience and my friend and I had a good time, but probably won't be back.
This place is one of my favs!!
Whenever I am in San Francisco I dine at a Micheal Mina restaurant so I was super excited to try International Smoke. Considering the hype around the opening, I am sorry to say this restaurant didn't live up to my imagined expectations. In my opinion it is an expensive barbecue joint.
Food and service were outstanding. I highly recommend the ribs and tri-tip Mac & cheese.
The food, while expensive, is amazing. The place is clean and new. Go there for the food above all else though.
Best ribs and love the presentation! Fun vibe and excellent service.
I loved everything about this place. The food, ambiance, and service was amazing. I love the live band. I can’t wait to go back. My husband is from the south and is very critical of bbq. He loved the restaurant. The twist on traditional southern dishes was a winner! The only thing I would change is the dessert menu.
Great service. Food was good, some things better than others. Drinks were fun and inventive. Happy hour is only on the patio and at the bar so don’t get duped like we did and sit in the restaurant and miss out. We were not told this before being seated.
Although it's difficult to get a reservation, once things simmer down a bit at One Paseo, hopefully, it will be easier to get in. Friday nights are jammed but we got lucky and found two seats at the bar. The service was great and the food was amazing. The only negative at this point is that the full menu isn't available at the bar. So, if you can't get a reservation, or you just pop in for drinks and a quick dinner, you won't have the full menu selection. However, it is still worth checking out. Good people watching also.
Lovely music and really great waiter who upped our delightful experience!
The food and service were amazing!
Service was great. Food was just OK. Nothing super special.
Both fillets were cooked past what they were ordered. Medium and medium well were both closer to well done. They were also served without the the sauce and bbq onions.
To no fault of the restaurant, there was a large and loud party during our dinner, so it certainly didn't help our experience.
Everything was good but it took 35 minutes for our main course to arrive
We heard about the opening of this restaurant and thought we would try it. Started off with cornbread muffins, delicious. The jalapeños sprinkled inside made them unique especially with the curry spread. Jerk Chicken was next and it didn’t disappoint. Lightly crusted with a very tasteful mango chutney. Finally, the St. Louis ribs, theses just fell off of the bone. Great lunch. Highly recommend the restaurant if you are visiting or live in the area.
Slow and awkward service; server took forever to arrive at our table and even then, we constantly had to get his attention to get the basics we needed. When asked to describe the cocktails and the food, he was lackluster and unenthusiastic...was this his first day.
Food took FOREVER to arrive. My daughter ordered a different kids meal to replace the first one she didn’t like and she already got her second dish and even then, our entrees had not arrived.
So disappointing...would have been a good choice for the area but obviously needs more work.
First time here first time trying “curry” 😃 of course I had to have it being Ayesha Curry spot 😋 will come back next time in the area.
Excellent excellent excellent! What more can I say!! Karen Feldman
Nice ambiance in the new One Paseo Del Mar shopping center. The food was delicious (I recommend the cornbread and the Korean short rib plate) and the service was exceptional. Our server was helpful in providing us information about the menu and in recommending which dish to try. The vibe was fun and laid back and the music playlist was nice and it wasn't too loud in the restaurant, so that I can hear the other person.
Had the falafel and the arugula salad and them three types of ribs. All were excellent. Then our table neighbors had the grilled seafood combo. And now we can’t wait to go back and try that.
My cousin and I have been wanting to try this place out, but have had busy schedules.
We FINALLY were able to have a free day and decided to go here. Everything was on point! Customer service, the quality of the food and the ambiance. I cannot wait to come back and try their dinner menu and punch bowls with more people!
Such a fun evening and wonderful dining experience. Celebrated our anniversary and the waitstaff (Ana) was amazing. Even met a fun couple next to us that recommended dishes, we got the Fuego special that gives you a little bit of everything. The cornbread, smoked brocollini, and ribs were my favorite. The key lime pie was amazing and the handmade soft serve was delicious too. Super fun atmosphere and great food!
Amazing!!! If I could put this into one word I would but the word has not been defined. This place is better than exceptional! Better than good! Better than awesome! Better than any adjective to describe a place. Just go and Thank God you made it!
Good food, great service!
Everything was great, but music was Loud making it difficult for conversation across table
We enjoyed Ayesha Curry’s cooking series. Didn’t find the restaurant matched her warmth and hospitality.
We had reservations. The reception staff were not friendly and couldn’t even make eye contact. The hostess seemed annoyed when I had a table request, kind of expect a hostess to be more courteous or least mature enough to behave better. The vibe is hip. It’s lively. The wait staff made up for the hosts.
Corn bread was great with signature curry butter. The waygu beef cooked table side looked so promising but when the lettuce cups were filled the beef got lost in all that lettuce. The jerk chicken with scotch bonnet was very good. The Tom Kha was the star so delish. A great compliment to the corn bread and on its own filled with seafood,...it’s probably a great spot for happy hour.
Oh the only other thing, the bus staff circled too frequently to clear the serving plates...making us feel rushed. They have some cool cocktails on the menu,...
The music was so loud we could not hear the waiter explain all the things we wanted to hear about the food. Wonderful food, but terrible experience only because of noise. Yikes!
This restaurant has had so much hype since it opened and since we live in the area we thought we'd try it.
Let's start by saying we are Not Young and are obviously not the target group for this restaurant.
When we arrived we could hear how loud the music was before we even reached the door so we requested a quiet table, if possible. Frowning and barely acknowledging our presence the "host" hissed at us "all of our tables are noisy". We requested and were seated outside, which looked comfortable and has tables placed not too close together so we thought we had a chance to chat with our friends over dinner. No such luck. While the live music was inside it was broadcast outside as well at a volume that made our table vibrate. Conversation was impossible.
The food was mixed: the ribs were fine (but not great), the chicken overcooked, the cod has lovely accompaniments but was fishy. We all loved the side of rice with crab. The cornbread had in interesting sauce on it but the tiny $2 muffin tasted much like the ones I make at home from a mix.
I can't comment on any desserts since we couldn't wait to leave after our meal so that we could go to a local coffeehouse to sit and have a chance to actually talk to one another.
Great food wonderful service
Ribs were good. I got the Korean flavor, it was a little salty for my taste. I want to try the American bbq flavor of I go back. The crab fried rice could be bigger in portion especially if sharing as an appetizer or side. Our waiter was attentive and helped with suggestions. They accommodated my children well with kids menu (good selection) and crayons and activity sheet. We went during lunch so it wasn’t as crowded. When we left it started to get crowded since happy hour started at 3pm. Overall, I would go back and try some other food entrees and happy hour
I am addicted to this place! Best new restaurant to open in San Diego in ages. Been there twice in two weeks!! Loved lobster salad for lunch!
Food was yummy. Our group had the full rack of ribs combo, the filet and oysters as entrees, the tomato salad and the arugula salad as starters, the creamed corn as a side and the cornbread (amazing!). All of it was fantastic. Service was top notch as well. We will be back!
Wow. I had the Korean barbecue short ribs. They were perfectly executed. Excellent barbecue taste and nice crispy outside. The shellfish appetizer was high quality and very interesting with a Smokey finish. Excellent service. Really impressive.
Food and service was fantastic! Highly recommend.
Loved the ribs, corn bread, cauliflower was incredible and the seafood plate was the added bonus.
