Insalata's Restaurant is moving into it's 26th year of the community minded restaurants in San Anselmo. Insalata's receives Bib Gourmand from Michelin for it's 10th year in a row.
Our goal at Insalata's has always been to bring luscious Mediterranean food, gracious service and a warm atmosphere to our diners. For over 25 years we have shared this experience of intimate dining and joyful celebrations in a variety of ways. First and foremost as a fine dining restaurant with our beautiful private Siena room in which to sit and relax and enjoy a meal. We also offer take out dining for those days when time is of the essence, or catered affairs where we bring great food and staff into your home or venue. Our guests have become family and we have grown together in the community in which we all live and work. Everyone at Insalata's is extremely proud to be a part of this extended "village" family.

    Enjoyed the flavors of the food - lots of vegetarian options which was great! Portions were HUGE! There were 3 of us and we all agreed that it was just too much. Taste was there but some dishes were a bit heavy on oil. Wait staff left something to be desired. Our waitress was a bit "abrupt" with us. We had an 8:15pm reservation but the kitchen closes at 8:30pm. It leaves 15 min to get settled and ordered etc. and the flow of dishes becomes "random and not timed appropriately. It was obvious that the staff wanted to rush us out of there. A note to the management - adjust your available OpenTable reservations to adjust for the kitchen closing or push out the time the kitchen closes. I understand the desire to make more reservations and revenue but it puts undue stress on the staff, kitchen, and ultimately is a bad experience for diners. I don't put blame on the staff for their eagerness to close down when they were given unrealistic expectations from management. We would love to come back b/c the food is awesome! BUT we usually eat dinner at 8pm (which in Marin is difficult for sure) but we'd prefer not going back even if the food is good simply b/c its not enjoyable to spend $250 on dinner for 3 people and feel rushed.

    The 4 of us had a delightful dinner al fresco. The dinner was terrific, ambiance wonderful. We do hope that if we had stayed longer that heat lamps would have been offered, it was beginning to get chilly. Thank you.

    This was a disappointing experience from a usually stellar establishment. The menu listed on open table and Yelp were both incorrect. We arrived hoping to have brunch and were told they No longer serve brunch. The main reason we had selected Insalatas was that they Benedict menu looked interesting and fun. We ended up ordering two appetizers (focaccia with whipped Feta - absolutely delicious and highly recommend and eggplant fries which arrived piping hot and delicious). We had wanted to order the Babganous but they hadn’t finished making it yet. For entrees my friend got the grilled lamb which he was very happy with. My other friend and I got the burger. We both ordered our burgers medium. They burgers arrived cooked well done and dry served on what tasted like a completely dried out day old brioche. I couldn’t eat the bun and just ate the dry burger patty and the fries. Our server was good. Friend, great sense of humor and fun. Overall it was an ok experience but honestly I’ll not go back for brunch.

    The food was delicious. The service however was below average. We waited 15 minutes just to be acknowledged. To a while for water to come back, and at least 20 after our appetizers we were asked what we like for dinner.

    We had a wonderful lunch at Insalata's! The food was excellent - fresh ingredients perfectly cooked with just the right amount of salt and spice to highlight the flavors. And the plates all looked beautiful - a feast for the eyes as well. What a delight!

    Insalata's provides a quality lunch - great for business meetings. The food is consistently good. When you make the reservation, if you let the staff know that you have a departure time you need to stick to, they will accomodate, otherwise you should allow a minimum of 90 minutes.

    After my family's latest visit I declared Insalata's the best restaurant in Marin and believe me we've been enough to know! After all these years it continues to be creative, perfectly seasonal and interesting. Execution of food is always on point and they make the best TC Manhattan around.

    So I always love Insalata’s , the food was great as usual. This time the service got a 2 because we had to wait so long to get everything. From our drinks to salad to main course. It was irritating to my partner but I just relaxed and was happy to be served. The server was not the issue , she was an excellent server, knew the menu well and was interactive, it was the kitchen, they were just plainly backed up. There was a very large party in the private room and the restaurant was busy but the big party got their main course after us so not sure what was going on? Help is so hard to find in Marin and around the Bay. I understand it may be hard to staff anything well.

    A great restaurant. Everything we ordered was wonderful. We enjoyed the apricot and prosciutto salad- something I had never seen before. Lemon trifle for dessert was perfect.

    We three diners each chose a different entree, and we each felt equally pleased with our meals. Of course, we saved room for delicious desserts, as well. And, engaging with our knowledgable waitress, just enhanced our evening at Insalata's. Thank you!!!

    Had to send food back…under done and cold. Server’s attitude changed from “ingratiating “ to unpleasant. Food was over cooked. Insalata’s is a favorite with our guests yesterday, but I doubt I’ll choose to return. Too bad.

    Tables are very close together (inside) which was a little concerning since Covid is still around. Waitstaff were wonderful and attentive. Food was delicious and it was noisy but not too bad considering it was packed on a Wednesday night

    Salmon with garbanzo beans, shishitos, coriander, and cumin. Just delicious! All 3 of us loved the food. Waiter recommended a Sancerre and it was wonderful.

    Our server was outstanding. She is super friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. This was a business meeting, and she was attentive but not intrusive. We never felt rushed, although we sat outside on a glorious, sunny day and the outside tables filled up quickly. She gave great service as always. When I dine at Insalata's for lunch, which is a couple of times/month, she is often our server, thankfully. She is the best.

    Food was excellent. The steak was tender, flavorful but a bit rare for medium rare. Also ordered was the large pork chop (was not overcooked) and the Halibut (just a bit overcooked). Desserts were super. We brought our own wine; glasses & wine service were perfect. Overall, it was an enjoyable night.

    Insalata’s is the most reliably amazing restaurant in Marin. Our absolute favorite in every way. Tonight we were seated at a lovely table for 2 and our sever was Luis and he was friendly, helpful, warm, and professional. We ordered the hummus and pita (the best I’ve ever had of both), the eggplant fries, hamachi crudo, a seasonal crab fettuccini that was over the top excellent, and the delectable lemon trifle. Heidi the owner is spectacular and her dedication to her team and the Extra Food community organization are inspirational. We will be back many many times.

    Insalata's is a 10/10! The entire experience was exceptional. Great food, service and ambiance. I brought my mom here for the Mother's Day brunch and it did not disappoint. They really made all of the mamas feel special and we will certainly be back for another breakfast/lunch/dinner.

    Eat here regularly and last night was a disappointment. Food took forever and when it arrived at the table it was cold. The oso busco pasta dish lacked enough sauce and meat. Had to be sent back. Chef did remake it and was better. Front of house staff was inexperienced and overall experience was not good. Won’t be back until they get it together.

    First time here and we loved it. We sat outside and it was lovely. Probably the best service I have experienced in a very long time, very generous portions and the food was excellent. We bought desserts to go from the counter service to eat later and those were delicious too. Highly recommend!

    I recall their Fatoush salad being so much better. It was mostly just iceberg lettuce and a few pieces of chicken. Not worth the price. Service was excellent.

    Our food was delicious. One of us had the middle eastern inspired vegetarian platter made vegan and gluten-free (amazing) while the other had the combination plate with a corn chowder and a half serving (enormous) of chicken fattoush. We finished with a shared coconut macaroon (gluten-free) dipped in chocolate (no dairy). We expect to return soon!

    Reasonable price, wonderful food, great service. Ordered mussels and corn soup for appetizer, mussels are very good, the corn soup is OK. Yogurt chicken and rack of lamb for main dish, both are fantastic! Ordered a glass of cab but that wasn't very good, the server noticed it (!) and offered to exchange for another glass of blend, which is better. That's amazing service. I'll definitely come by again in the future.

    Our dinner at Insalata’s was perfection! Our server Sharon was a key part of our totally enjoyable experience. She was friendly, enthusiastic about the menu offerings, provided helpful input, and checked to ensure everything was done to our satisfaction. And the food was amazing — perfectly done and beautifully presented by the excellent chef. Insalata’s never fails to please!

    The food was the usual good Insalata’s fare. That’s why we go there. The service was non-existent. When the waitstaff was nearby we had to get their attention. Even had to ask for water refills. It was a birthday lunch that was not mentioned but listed o. Reservation as ‘special birthday’. When I did bring it up, the server said it was her birthday too. That’s all.     Doesn't live up to past experiences. Maybe it's because Heidi is stepping away from day-to-day dealings with the restaurant. Menu seems to be stuck -- just not very interesting. Love the people that work there and the ambience, just the food seems to be a letdown.

Our menu has a seasonal rhythm with new dishes moving in and out and favorites that anchor the rest of the menu. I am very much involved in the restaurant but have taken a back seat on the everyday physical demands of the kitchen. I am sorry to hear that our food is not that interesting. I wish you well in finding other restaurants serving high caliber delicious food on a daily basis that satisfies your culinary desires. Heidi
