Indian Essence by Atul Kochhar
An array of delicious dishes are available including Tandoori Lobster Tawa Masala, Lamb Nihari and Chicken Khasta Murg. Guest can also enjoy Vegetarian and Pescatarian options from these specially designed menus and this Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant.
Wonderful experience. The tasting menu was superb. Went on a Sunday evening and it was very quiet so the atmosphere was lacking a little.
The lunch set menu is very good value and extremely tasty. Service was attentive and professional .The restaurant is elegantly laid out with nice decor and good spacing between the tables. The drinks however are quite expensive (£6.50p for a pint of draft Cobra ) which can wrack up the bill if you are not careful. Overall a nice lunch experience and one I would heartily recommend.
The food was excellent, spiced, but not hot. The menu was full of dishes not found at other Indian Restaurants. Service was very good with the staff being friendly, although since everything is prepared freshly (I presume), there was a bit of a wait between courses, not a problem as the food was so good.
It is a tad more expensive than most, but taste the food and you’ll know why! I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others.
The food was excellent and the place looked nice!
Fantastic meal a real gem!! Will be going back in the very near future.
Excellent New Years Eve meal. Food was delicious and service outstanding. We will definitely be returning in 2020.
A lot to like here - obviously it's got a pretty high-end ethos, but it's unlikely small town location, and the lack of pretension given the talent/food on offer is a joy. Nothing too complicated or overfancy, prices are very fair, the wine list has a couple of imaginative gems. Nice people, too.
Great food, great service, we had a fantastic evening
Nine of us including three children went to celebrate my birthday. Our table was ready and the waiters immediately came to make sure we were alright. Coats were hung up and menus given out. Nothing was too much trouble as the waiter explained the menus and asked what the children would like. Food was chosen, the adults all had a set menu. The food arrived and it always absolutely delicious. We couldn’t fault a single thing. It was a perfect way to celebrate.
Good atmosphere, staff very attentive, food choice was excellent. Food that we ordered was stunning to the eye and also to taste.
We visited on Christmas Day and had the set menu. The food was fantastic! My husband had the sea bass followed by the lamb. I had the scallops followed by the lobster which was out of this world! Lots of food for the money - the textures of chocolate dessert was crazy delicious and a mince pie to finish. Service was good and nice atmosphere for Christmas Day. Will definitely return!
We so enjoyed the Sunday Set lunch - choice was very good, food was incredibly tasty with great flavours and nicely presented.
Staff are very friendly - overall a lovely experience - this has been our 5th visit to Indian Essence - it’s about a 45 minute drive for us to get to the restaurant, but definitely with the effort.
Imaginative food in a nice atmosphere. I had the Indian Railway Curry - would recommend
The service was a bit chaotic, being asked the same thing by different members of staff. Our wine was in a wine chiller kept metres away from our table in the opposite corner so we had to ask for top ups. The majority of the food was delicious but the railway lamb ordered by 3 of us was far too pink - it appeared to have been seared and then served without further cooking.
All in all a disapppointing experience.
We had a beautiful birthday meal at Indian essence. The food was fantastic and the staff were friendly and attentive. There was a musician playing and a few larger parties in the restaurant. It was lively, and we got a special happy plate with our desert. Very happy.
We had visited Atul Kochhar in Marlow, but for us in Kent this is a long journey, so we were extremely excited to find Indian Essence in Petts Wood. Set in a small row of shops, there is parking opposite or a public car park near by. We went for lunch midweek and the restaurant was very quiet, but service was excellent as was the food. We had the 3 course set lunch - small choices but each course was beautifully spiced and presented - the lamb and the hake mains were superb. We finished the meal with a chocolate fondant dessert. Very keen to return in 2020 and try the rest of the menu.
Had a lovely lunch, the flavours are just outstanding. They had a very large table celebrating several birthday which made it quite noisy, but was happy noise! The service was a little slow to get going but the food is so worth the wait. Second time we've eaten here and will definitely be back.
The a la carte menu is pricey, but the set lunch is excellent value.....even though there’s no longer a vegetable dish as part of it. ☹️
Few people in this lunchtime, so a bit lacking in atmosphere, but that’s not the restaurant’s fault.
Never been before although lived in this area for years and I’m so pleased we’ve found this restaurant as it’s lovely. Great food and lovely staff. My Indian restaurant of choice from now on!
Friendly, warm welcome. Attentive service. Great food - quality ingredients beautifully cooked and presented. The only quibble is that food is presented in ridiculously small bowls or plates that make it impossible to put rice or side dishes of vegetables on the plate. It would be far more sensible to have dishes presented in serving dishes so that people can help themselves to as much as they want and dishes can be shared with the rest of the table. We had asked to do this but when the food actually arrived they had ignored our request.
Food is always great and friendly service. Top notch and highly recommended 😋
First of all... We've eaten here quite a few times and the food has always been wonderful and not your normal 'ruby'. It's a little bit of a distance away from where my wife and I live and also quite expensive by comparison to our local 'curry house' so it's normal a rare treat for us rather than a regular haunt. As usual the food/menu was excellent. Staff were attentive and service quick and efficient. We dined relatively early (6pm) and on a Sunday but we had thought it would be a little busier being that it's running up to Christmas but there was just one table of people when we arrived (though they were extremely noisy (thankfully they had already eaten so weren't there that long). As usual the price 'surprised us a bit' being, as it was £166 for two of us (though that does include the gratuity) though we did have a couple of beers a cocktail and a decent bottle of red wine so I guess it was OK all things considered. The price will NOT put us off from visiting again nonetheless as the food is probably some of the best you can get!
Family get together
After sampling food from Indian Essence at the Tunbridge Wells Pub in the Park two years running, we thought that if they were able to produce food of that quality in a field for crowds the restaurant was worth a try. We had high hopes for the evening and am I pleased to say that our expectations were exceeded.
The whole experience from having the door opened for us on arrival, through the cocktails with poppadoms, to the mains with assorted sides and finally the desserts was one that we will remember for a long time. We are already trying to work out when we can go back.
The place was full but surprisingly not too noisy, the staff were attentive without being in your face - they know what was going on around them. There were at least four different staff who interacted with us at the table and they knew who had ordered what.
If you are just looking for curry house then this is probably not for you. If you are prepared to try something out of the ordinary you are in for a treat.
Lovely service and absolutely brilliant - and authentic - Indian fare.
A very strongly recommended dining option.
Excellent meal and great service. My only criticism is that it seems to take a while to get a menu - happened on all previous visits. The food is so good and different from your average Indian restaurant you dont really want to be left waiting to peruse the menu.
It was an excellent evening. Only one blip that the service was a little slow. We arrived at 7.15 pm and finished at 10.20pm. This didn't matter as we had all evening but I felt it was a little slow. The food was wonderful and the ambiance was very comfortable.
Food was lovely but we were left standing for half an hour as the table were waiting for had booked a cab surely they should have vacated the table not our fault. Also we waited 15 mins for a drink the poor bartender was so busy with no help the bar was smothered with dirty glasses . Statt were friendly enough and once seated we were fine. The wine was very expensive for what it was at least £10 -£15 more than we have paid before in other restaurants. The food was amazing tho
Food was excellent and we very much enjoyed our meal. However, we booked for 8.15pm and weren't seated until 8.50pm which was disappointing. You could tell it was a busy night and staff seemed a little stretched. A shame as otherwise it was a great evening.
Tasting menu was amazing! Also recommend the Indian gin and tonic! Staff were attentive. Service was fast!
Lunchtime is always going to be quieter but I was pleasantly surprised at how many tables were in use when we arrived at 1:30 pm. The “Festive Menu” was presented and we were not disappointed. I chose Sea Bass for a starter (delicious) and leg of lamb for my main. My husband chose the steak for his main and a delightful chicken pie beforehand. All washed down with a lovely bottle of Indian Sauvignon Blanc. Service is always attentive and we thoroughly enjoyed our Saturday lunch. One of our local favourites and highly recommended.
Went to Indian Essence to celebrate a birthday, we have been a couple of times before and again we were not disappointed, as ever very good service, lovely food and wine, we had a great evening.
Lovely Sunday lunch. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Service was very efficient and the staff could not do enough for us.
Food was delicious, best quality ingredients cooked to perfection in a very interesting way. Everything was presented beautifully.
We had the set Sunday lunch which was fabulous value for money.
Would highly recommend.
Tonight was a shocking meal. Table was late and the food was rubbish. Wanted to fob us off with a free cheap bottle of wine. The owner should think about what this restaurant is doing for his name. Will take a lot for me to go back.
An excellent evening all round - thank you
This is the third time we have had lunch here. Each time the food has been fantastic and the service excellent. Would hIghly recommend.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Beyond our expectations. The food was fresh and beautifully presented. The staff so helpful. The live music, which was not loud, was great and added to the overall wonderful atmosphere. We will goo back soon.
It was my Birthday and the whole evening was very enjoyable with great food and excellent well priced wine.
Great food and drinks. Nice atmosphere.
The best restaurant out there, we go back again and again. I would recommend it over Benares (we’ve done both). The food is fabulous, the service is attentive, overall good value for money. The restaurant has a warm, pleasant ambiance, it welcomes couples and families alike (we’ve done both!)
