Tasty dinner but only OK service- we were seated in the back corner on a Monday so hard to get waiters attention and he didn't check on us once our entrees came when we needed a couple things. But-nicely decorated and would come back to sit at the bar or try brunch sometime.
Had a reservation for 7 pm and table was not ready...waited for 10 minutes. Quite honestly it was the food that we did not enjoy. Poorly done. Ordinary. We will not return to this this establishment.
Superb fresh pasta and many other fine choices!
Do not sit at the table for six across from the bathroom. They should take this table OUT.
Not only is it looking right into the toilets 5 ft. away--but the air conditioner blows right on the table. A real negative.
Saturday night dinner--forgot one appetizer, over-cooked two steaks. Tried to make it right with free desserts. The other food was very good.
I would try them again during the week. They are a more ambitious restaurant, things happen. PS the manager never came over to apologize....bad form.
Wonderful house made pasta and fresh seafood! Great for intimate dinners or business meals. Oyster selection varied and local. Definitely a gem in the North End!
Food was excellent and the vibe was great. We never felt rushed and we could really enjoy our meal. Everyone around seemed to annoy as well you could dress up or be more causal and feel comfortable there. We were very pleased
We arrived Promptly at 7:30 for a 7:30 reservation. The hostess told us that our table wasn't quite ready. 20 minutes later I asked again and she explained that the guests were just not leaving but it should not be much longer. I suggested that we would sit at a High top that was available at the bar but she said they were not seating this area ( it was the only empty table at the bar area, and was cleared at about 7:45) and it was full when we were leaving.
We were finally seated at 8:15. The waiter, the service and the food were all outstanding...Best Octopus I have ever eaten, The mussels were wonderful as well. The truffled butter made it hard not to eat the bread . All of the entres Steel-head trout, Cod Loin, and linguine with clams were delicious. The space is below street level but they have done a very nice job with the lighting and decor to make the space very attractive.
The fact that they did nothing about the long delay seemed wrong so we asked for and let the manager know after we paid and were leaving....He did offer a drink at the bar but we declined.
The bottom line Great Restaurant but the manager needs to be more on top of what is going on in the front end.
After a slow service start (despite an unbusy dining room) we had a wonderful meal. Oysters were super fresh, lobster salad rolls (though a bit pricy) were delicious and our entrees were perfect. The steak frites was a great value, the chicken cutlet with arugula salad was spot on, and everything was fresh and very well presented. The location is great; if we lived in the neighborhood it would no doubt be one of our go-to spots. Looking forward to going back.
Service is fair ... food is ok.... not consistently good. Cannot seem to get their act together.
It was excellent. An unusual pairing of flavors in the mussels dish. The swordfish was outstanding. The waiter was accommodating as I am on a low salt diet and recommended the dishes that would be suitable.
This was the first time we were at this restaurant. My daughter lives in the neighborhood and had seen it several times and wanted to try it. The meal was great and the service excellent.
Should have been better. I like this place but it is often uneven. Wine list is just not well thought out and wine by the glass choices are limited and boring. Food was ok but a little bland which was surprising. I really want to like IlMolo (the owners are terrific people) but it just missed the mark last time.
Impeccable service and top notch locally inspired cuisine
We love this neighborhood restaurant. The food never disappoints and the service is attentive and professional. I had haddock Milanese on my last visit and I look forward to getting it again next time. ( very fresh with lightly dressed tomatos on top.) This restaurant is a little out of the way but worth finding!
We had a lovely Sat evening meal here. My husband had the grilled lobster and raved about it. My son ate the grilled swordfish. We all enjoyed a lobster roll appetizer. Ambiance was like dining under water, very relaxing.
We sat by the kitchen not ideal at all
For group of 6
The service was ok
Food too pricey for the quality
Great drinks, food and service. Seafood couldn't be any fresher!
Il Molo was fantastic. Love the high top tables. Service was excellent. The swordfish special was worth five stars on its own.
Plates well presented, but lacking much flavor.
Definately worth a try and i would return. Food is excellent.
Table for 6, everyone ordered something different and everyone thought that their choice was fantastic. Oysters and deserts were both exceptional, probably the best meal I have had in the "North End" even though this is at best a fringe North End location....well out of the action. Totally worth it, cant wait to go back.
Delicious meal at Il Molo and nice service at the bar. This was our first time dining there and we will definitely be back.
The service and food were excellent.
We sampled several dishes on the menu which is not large, but has excellent variety. Salads were exceptional. Kale salad had slices of perfectly ripe peach. Buratta and tomato were also exceptional. Try the pickled eggplant which was TDF. We tried three craft cocktails and were impressed with all. Pasta was perfectly cooked aldente! Very swanky atmosphere, great food and equally good service.
Musik zu laut;Service schleppend, da zu wenig Personal;scheinbar zuwenig 'Silber', da benutzte Gabel vom Teller wieder zurückgelegt wurde beim Abräumen;Austern waren sehr gut. Gut geignet für Gäste ohne Konversationswillen
Great food. The service was exceptional, friendly and efficient. Would go back in a flash
Il Molo is a great addition to the neighborhood. The seafood is delicious. The service was very good. The selection of wines by the glass could be better.
The seafood dishes we ordered were delicious, and cooked to perfection. Great decor too!
Delicious and artfully prepared food and cocktails. The bartender was amazing too!
Everything was EXCELLENT!!! I cannot say enough about the food and the AMBIANCE = AMAZING!!!!
Despite the fact we had a reservation and we had been given no options, they wanted to seat us at a high-top table in the bar area right near the front door on a chilly night when crowds were coming in. We were having none of that. So we firmly requested a table in the dining room and, indeed, we got what we wanted -- a nice table in the back near the kitchen.
Our waiter didn't hover and the food was excellent.
Excellent atmosphere and even better food! Debating whether or not to tell anyone about this local gem.
The food was really wonderful. It took a long time to get our first course though. We ordered a dozen oysters as we got our menus. It took half an hour after that to get them! They were great, though. The service just wasn't good enough for this place. But I definitely recommend the restaurant. I had the lobster and the prawns. Husband had clam chowder. Great. Hopefully your service will be better.
food was excellent. service was good waiter lovely but a bit slow... also had to ask for bread.
wine list is a bit steep
Il Molo has become my new favorite "neighborhood restaurant! The staff are friendly and accommodating. The quality of the food is excellent and consistently good. It's a comfortable place where I, as a single woman, feel comfortable going alone for a relaxing dinner after work. But I enjoy taking friends and family knowing I will not be disappointed. Carol
If you are into seafood you can't do better than this place. I had the seafood stew, others at my table had the lobster and pasta dishes. We had octopus appetizer. All were excellent. Portion was very generous. Pricy but we had enough leftover for the next day. Seafood quality was wonderful. The ambience was a little strange since it is in a basement, but overall pleasant enough.
Great food in a beautiful setting. Prices definitely creep up on you but we had a wonderful experience!
We were celebrating a friend's birthday so wanted to try someplace that none of us had been to, that would seem a little festive, and that served seafood. Il Molo was well reviewed so we made a reservation here and everyone loved the ambiance. It is also one of the few restaurants where you can actually carry on a conversation. The room was beautiful and the waiter was very attentive. The food was a mixed bag, though. Everyone enjoyed the chopped salad but there were mixed reviews on the entrees. The fried calamari got 5 stars and the seared scallops were delicious although the mushroom risotto was a little chewy - needed to be cooked longer with more liquid. The lobster fra diavolo was reportedly very bland and the seafood stew would have been delicious except that the lobster and crab were left in such huge unwieldy shells that the stew was very difficult and messy to eat. Both diners who ordered the seafood stew only ate about a third of the stew. The red velvet cake that the restaurant brought for dessert was one of the best desserts I have ever tasted. It was the hit of the evening. I would definitely go back to Il Molo to try the other items on the menu.
We had a fabulous time - a hidden gem - everything so very fresh!
