Treviso-style tiramisù with ladyfingers soaked in rum & espresso, layered with mascarpone & topped with a dusting of cocoa powder
the service was not up to the restaurants standards and the food portions were very small especially for the price
Excellent place to enjoy a lovely lunch or dinner. The staff is very attentive but not overly so. The food has been excellent. Even with times the way they are, you don't feel pressured or rushed in any way. The restaurant is very clean. Highly recommended.
Great service, great food!
Visit with an old friend. First time in over a year. Had a lot of time to just sit and visit. My meal was very good.
Not your usual service. Wine we wanted was "out of"; likewise with the salad "out of" -it was only 12:30. Our main course was tasty but the plate was not hot so I think it
had been sitting a while.
Delicious menu choices. Very attentive waitresses. Perfect portion sizes for the price. Will definitely come again
I always loved Il Fornaio in Walnut Creek, frequenting it often. It seems the pandemic has had its impact. The menu has changed significantly, all of my favorites no longer available, the crab salad I did have was meager in serving size and limited in ingredients. It was actually tasteless and unsatisfying. Had it not been for the bread, I would have left hungry. I am hoping these changes are temporary and the Il Fornaio I know so well, will return soon.
I went 2 days in a row
First one… went to dinner on Tuesday night
Ordered a salad and entry after waiting 1 1/2 hrs my sister Ed t up to the counter and the person said they had a party of 30 and getting to our dinner shorty.
Terrible waitress never said a word .
Wed I had another reservation this time for lunch
We ordered your special crab salad when it arrived it was the smallest said I have ever seen.
Tiny tiny scope of crab and very very little lettuce, I told my waitress this wasn’t what we visualized and can she bring more lettuce not happy with me
she returns with a tiny plate of very little lettuce.
Looking at other plates I asked to speak to the manager and I explained my 2 experiences.
He tried to make excuses,
Finally he said he would send a dessert
I want you to know I am disappointed after being a regular at your restaurant..
The staff is not the same sorry to say
They put us at a table that had not been cleaned. I am sorry but that is not acceptable during a pandemic. We sat there for 20 minutes while being ignored by the service and decided to leave. We are not going back
There have been some subtle "take aways" since our last visit over a year ago. They still have the white tablecloths but don't have a flower arrangement or any other decorations. The menu is shorter and less interesting. The old multipage menu had some interesting, adventuresome choices. This new single page menu did not.
The wait staff was somewhat unprofessional. Took a while to get menus and then longer to take the drink order and even longer yet to serve the drinks. Big mistake in the restaurant business! The bar delivers the $$. The food came in a reasonable time. I think this may reflect the difficulty in hiring wait staff after COVID 19 shutdowns.
Disappointed somewhat. Had to ask for a server after being seated. Waited 10-15 min! Chicken on my salad was over cooked. Didn’t have a gluten-free menu like in the past. I’ll come back but am hesitant. Hope your food measures up to the price, otherwise I’ll stop coming.
A favorite restaurant; so glad to be able to eat there again.
Disappointing service. Door locked when we arrived for our reservation at Noon. Had to ask twice to get someone to take our order. Had cabrese traditionale and bruschetta that lacked any flavor as if they forgot the balsamic vinegar.
It is unfortunate - what used to be a delightful restaurant with great food, reasonable prices and good portions is now the opposite. While the servers continue to be good, the reception staff is less than welcoming and willy nilly about seating.
No longer one of our top picks in the downtown area.
Excellent food; a friendly staff as always. A bit expensive, but the quality of the food makes it worth it.
We took friends from out of town for dinner and they raved about the fresh pasta and dishes. My filet was the best I've had. Melted in my mouth.
Food was ok.. It would have been nice if we had more choices for Vegans and Vegetarians. Portion size was bit small.
Always consistently good.
Every time I’m there, the food and the service are excellent. We were treated for my friend’s birthday with a bowl of gelato - it was delicious. Thank you! Please keep up the great work.
I was there on a Sunday at 5. Not many tables had guests. The last time I was there was 2 years ago under much different circumstances. The food was as good as it ever has been which makes me want to return time and time again. Not sure if it was because the restaurant was coming out of COVID, but the service was not as warm and welcoming as it has in the past. The waiter was not rude, but was rather glum and unenthusiastic. Plates were not cleared for a while after appetizers and dinner. Water glasses not refilled. We were asked if we wanted the check before asking about dessert which we had. When asked what they had for dessert, the waiter rattled off the choices and was difficult to follow. The pre COVID il Fornaio always had very attentive servers, Sunday was just not the same.
Short ribs had a putrid smell. We sent them back and when the check they didn’t offer to comp anything. We were a party of 5, had cocktails, appetizers salads, etc. Just disappointing!
Great Place for a nice Friday Night dinner with 4 ladies. Easy parking, beautiful ambiance, good service and food and wine were great. We had the lasagna and filet of sole and both were very well prepared and presented. Will definately be back soon.
Outdoor seating enjoyed the carpaccio and the fish main course. Very nice service
Great service and delicious food...pricey but worth it.
The restaurant is beautifully decorated. We were immediately seated at an indoor table, however we waited more than 10 minutes before a server approached us ~ and learned she wasn’t even our server. She took our order, which was delivered by the assigned server.
Prices are on the high side for lunch salad....$40+ for two salads.
A special night w/friends and it turned out great. Server was excellent; food was good; we lingered in conversation and definitely were not rushed.
We had an outstanding dining experience yesterday at
Il Fornaio. I had a salad that had wonderful flavors and textures. Our waitress took great care of us.
We were on time for our reservation, were cheerfully welcomed immediately, and seated had menus at our table in less than five with minutes. Service was smooth, prompt, courteous and even very cheerful. Menu questions we answered promptly and clearly. Service throughout the meal was smooth, efficient and non-intrusive. I was very thirsty and finished three classes of water before my meal came. I never had to ask for a refill and the servers were observant but not hovering.
Everyone in our party of five thoroughly enjoyed our choices.
Our server was delightful food was amazing great wine great time
Was so wonderful to see so many of the old staff still there. Made returning to this fine restaurant even more enjoyable. Have had many delightful dinners there and the staff is very attentive and make the evening fun.
Now charging for bread & Covid 19
We regularly dine here & generally the service is good! But this time, the nice server seemed stretched! We’d to wait for almost everything from placing the orders (appetizer, main & dessert) to getting the bill & etc.
We had a great lunch and it was so much fun finally getting to see some old friends for lunch. We were able to take our time and not worry about a time limit, (maybe because they weren't really crowed). Our waitress was attentive and friendly and we enjoyed our experience. Thank you!
The food , sadly was not good for either of us. Our server was a delight. We understand it’s been rough and will try again and wish you well!
I was surprised that they didn’t bring bread to the table. The salmon that I added to my salad was very small. My husband’s pasta was not al dente.
A hidden gem in downtown Walnut Creek. Excellent food, service and ambiance. I gave it 4 stars because the outdoor chairs are uncomfortable, and can aggravate lowback conditions. We will sit indoors next time.
Food was good but nothing special. Server was prompt and friendly and the setting for the outdoor tables was pleasant. There are other much better choices in downtown Walnut Creek.
The food it so good . My family they liked.
Lovely decor. Great food. Not many customers so it was nice and peaceful. Great large windows for good lighting and an open feel. We were supposed to eat outdoors but inside was much nicer.
We enjoyed a nice outdoor lunch here. I had Caesar salad with salmon which was very good. The salmon addition was a little smaller than I would’ve liked but that’s part of the come back from the pandemic I think. My lunch partner had penne pasta Pomodoro which she liked very much. The ambiance was nice. Our service was very good and attentive
