Nice! Great service and food was excellent! A tad pricey.
Food wasn’t very hot, special wasn’t as described. Pork tenderloin with a demi glaze. Didn’t see or taste the demi glaze. Daughters gnocchi was very good, Ragu was very salty. Service after meal was very slow. Took nearly as much time to check out as it did to eat. Eaten here several times and have never felt the need to post a review. Was celebrating Fathers Day with my daughter.
Booked outdoor seating, however, was only told when arrived that the patio was reserved for a party. Service was not optimal- took a while to get drinks (cocktails and water) and appetizer was forgotten (but provided complimentary later). Food and drinks were delicious. Staff very friendly and courteous. Accommodated specific program on the tv. Overall a very nice lunch!
Lite crowd. Had a rev and immediately placed in a corner next to the kitchen.. asked to be moved.
Placed at a table in the opposite corner.
Slow service, had to ask for my wine to be delivered. Wife’s food was well received, mine was obviously under a heat lamp and pasta was hard with very little taste.
Wanted to try another location versus the one in SJC..
DO NOT RECCOMEND THIS LOCATION
I have been dining at this chain since 30 some years ago. They are never a disappointment.
We had an outoors reservation, but no table was available, so the manager moved a table from the indoors. Our server misunderstood my partner's entree order, so I ate before my partner did; however, our server not only comp'd my partner's order but delivered a complimentary gelato. Business is clearly accelerating, and we saw many unfamiliar faces among the wait staff. The noise level is greater now than it has been for the last year. The menu is still a bit smaller than pre-pandemic, but what is on the menu is delicious. We still recommend Il Fornaio.
Food quality and level obviously declined. The antipasto served was burnt, yes it's crispy as described, but burnt wasn't in the description. The baked potato slices side were mushy, rather than crunchy on the outside. And, the gnocchi was basically mashed potatoes with shape, not pasta.
Definitely not restaurant grade food.
The redeeming qualities are ambiance and service. I wouldn't come back with food at this quality.
We had a large group of family and friends. just great food and servicers were awesome.
Quality of food was moderate. The seafood dish I ordered had too much butter. Brussels Sprouts appetizer was below average and not cooked well. Portions of some. of the pasta dishes were very small.
Great Food/Service/Atmosphere- you cant go wrong dining here!
On our weekly night out, we were happy to find a special offer for home-made pasta. The Fettucine with Shrimp was excellent, and pasta tubes with vodka sauce is a treasured go-to dish, too. It was great to see our server, Meng, attending to our table; he was very charming and utterly attentive! The noise level increased markedly, as more people are allowed to dine inside - people haven't lost their (sometimes) loud voices over the pandemic!
The service and food was excellent as usual. The team truly understands service. It was great to be back eating inside.
The food was great! The service impeccable! Il Fornaio is our go-to restaurant.
First our server was so nice and kind! He was awesome.
However, it was our anniversary and we made a reservation for 7:00pm outside. When we got there, the hostess tried to put us at the smallest table in the smallest corner of the restaurant crowded with many other folks.
She asked if this was ok and I said no, I wasn't comfortable sitting so close to folks while we are still in a pandemic. Then she brought us to this tiny table next to a window, wine celler, and the kitchen... there were so many open tables all throughout the restaurant and outside and I don't understand why we were treated differently than all the other customers.
The food was fine, but nothing absolutely incredible. Overall it was a bummer but the affogado dessert was good.
I am a regular customer. Safety precautions are excellent, I felt safe eating indoors. Service is the best I have experienced in any restaurant. Overall the food has improved in taste from prior to the pandemic. Portions seem smaller. The Grigliata di Pesce entree was well prepared with the perfect amount of sauce and seasoning. The pasta was cooked perfectly. Two negatives this time: The calamari appetizer was way overcooked, too long in the fryer. Also, the very small portion Insalata Regina arugula salad I received did not have all the ingredients as listed on the menu. It was missing the raisins, red onion, the avocado and the dressing. I always enjoying eating here because of the beautiful environment.
Everything was great! I would forsure come back anytime.
Beautiful place, good food, great service. Perfect experience.
Food and service was fantastic. I appreciate the fact that they made an effort to accommodate our family's preference for sharing dishes by making everything easier to split.
Excellent Customer Service & Delicious Food
Nice heated patio area. Food was average. One pasta dish was slightly underdone.
The service was great, but the food was lacking.
Items were not as they were described at first, portions were a bit small, and flavor was a miss for our group.
Beautiful restaurant and great atmosphere, but the kitchen and bar were off.
Great food and service in a very pleasant atmosphere
The food was great, authentic Italian food. Everything tasted so fresh and the wine and drink menu was very diverse. We had a great experience here both food and service wise. Highly recommend!
Beautiful place!’ Our server was amazing. Everything she recommended was delicious. We’re definitely coming back
Check-in free appetizer was denied. We were waiting 1hour to get our "warm" meals and if you would like a bread with olive oil and vinegar you have to pay $2. Additional covid fee is added to your meals.
Overall not satisfied with the service.
Before COVID I was a regular guest and I loved everything about this restaurant. Today I had a special occasion to celebrate with my friendsand I was embarrassed that I recommend this place for our celebration.
Linda who waited on us was fantastic! Super attentive and had some great suggestions. Super star
Average food, bad service. Made a rsvp for Mother’s Day, opted for patio dining (we even confirmed it through the phone prior) we arrived on time, but was told our table is not ready and had to wait 30 mins. No problem. However, during that time a lady (who I assumed is the manager) keep trying to convince us to seat indoor, which we are not comfortable in doing so.
After 30 mins, our party of 3 people were told to seat in a small table meant for two (cramped and there wasn’t 6 feet distance between the next table) we felt that they are just trying to seat us wherever so they can accommodate other parties. The food was also underwhelming combined with bad service.
Used to be a fan of Il Fornaio, but not anymore!
My Wife and I went for the first time for Mother’s Day and we were very pleased with everything. We also will be coming back !!!!
Great customer service even on a last minute Mother’s Day reservation. We’ll definitely coming back each year.
Service tried but came short - ultimately gave me the wrong bill.
The food is plain. Don't feel like fine dining. Service is good.
Overall experience was good. Would visit this place again.
Nice table outside well-spaced, food was excellent, service was on point not rushed, would definitely go back.
This time my companion and I were seated inside - with clear social distancing - no guest closer than 6 feet. A dish on the special menu intrigued us - Ravioli with burrata and mushrooms plus candied walnuts... Pree-ty good! The wine is over-priced, but we take it anyway - can't have an Italian meal without red wine!
The server, Linda, is absolutely top - charming, funny, attentive, fast - excellent!
No complaints here!
Menu was very small and limited . Husband was upset over $2 charges for extra bread. I was upset about $2 COVID charges. Small amount but I don’t believe we should cover business expenses for the experience of eating there. That was covered in the new charges on the drink menu. 😕
The food and service is fantastic
They shortened the menu due to COVID. It an ideal situation but manageable...lol. Service is very good and the spacing is amazing coz of social distancing. Hope everything will be back normal soon.
We dined on the covered patio. Service was attentive but not intrusive. The salads were excellent, the entrees were delicious and hot. My only complaints were that the server did not offer to refill our water glasses, and the menu currently has no chocolate dessert. Small complaints, and we will certainly return.
We had an anniversary dinner here, our first time inside a restaurant since covid started. The restaurant appeared very clean and they were clearly adhering to the capacity limits. All staff we saw were wearing masks at all times. Signs indicated our temperatures would be taken upon entry, but they never were. We were seated in a corner with only one other couple in our part of the restaurant, quite a ways away.
I've eaten at other Bay Area Il Fornaio restaurants before and seem to recall more menu options in the past. I don't remember being charged for bread either. Anyway, we chose the Linguine Mare Chiara and the Lasagna Ferrarese and shared both. Our meal arrived quite quickly. The quantities were about average. Our waiter offered us cheese and then brought a little dish of aged parmesan, not the freshly grated cheese right onto your plate that I recall from before. The linguine featured shrimp, clams, mussels, and scallops (3 of each). The clams and mussels were a little fishy-tasting. The lasagna was okay, though not special. The dessert offerings are also more limited now: cannoli, tiramisu, and affogato, which, being chocoholics, we passed on.
The service was friendly, fast, accurate, and not pushy.
Would we come back? I don't know Santa Clara restaurants at all, but I know Palo Alto restaurants, and we'd probably go there when in the Bay Area if we had the time to go up the road a little.
I appreciate their willingness to customize my dish.
