Il Fornaio - Del Mar
Everything (food and service) were perfect. They needed to plan table reservations based on more of an understanding of how long people might linger at a table. Didn't get seated until 20 minutes AFTER my reservation. Poor planning on their part.
Enjoyed our dinner very much and will likely go again.
Extremely disappointed with my visit. The waiter was awful! He didn’t offer us bread until we asked, yet all other tables received bread when they were seated. Waiter didn’t engage in any conversation and was not friendly. One of our entrees was under cooked and we had to wait another 20 minutes for a new entree to be prepared. This error on the restaurant was not reflected on our bill. We went there for a birthday and the restaurant didn’t offer any complimentary birthday dessert or even acknowledged the special occasion. The overall experience was very disappointing and I will never return or recommend this restaurant to anyone else.
The restaurant was busy, which was so encouraging!!
Food was good, server could have been more attentive but they were most likely
Short staffed because people are choosing to stay on unemployment as opposed to going back to work.
The restaurant took all precautions. We felt safe at all times. Staff was pleasant and myself and my friends had a great meal.
Good was good. We needed to sit and chat a bit when we first got there yet the waitress kept coming by asking for our order. So annoying and I’ve experienced this too many places. What’s the rush?
Otherwise, service was very good as was the food. We sat out on the covered patio which was very warm, even as the sun was setting. Some ventilation would help.
Braised short ribs and sauce was great. Beef tenderloin was done perfect , probably 10 oz, and tasty.
Great menu though less than usual Staff was extremeLy helpful under new health guidelines Lots of room for outdoor dining.
My husband and son and I wanted to go out for a special evening. The inside seating was boring location without a view and the food was good but the limited menu and the very high price not worth it — sadly after a decade it is no longer one of our favorite brands. The service was very good but we miss our old favorites on the menu
Food was delicious. Sunset ocean view outstanding. No corkage fee through July was very much appreciated!
the food and service was great! we went to dine in the patio.
Birthday for daughter and they were very careful to seat everyone apart from other tables sue to covid we never felt overwhelmed by too many people close by.
The service, food and ambiance was superb. We were very pleased. Definitely will be returning at a later date.
The server was so out if it
Water got bug in it
The wine was old tested like vinegar and dirty glasses
My wife started with soup was not cooked properly nobody came in and offered pepper
I started with Cesar salad was not fresh
Both of us did not complete the food
Did not want to order dinner left
I have been in this restaurant in many places Irvine / Beverly Hills / Coronado and here in Del Mar
Never had a bad experience
The team working today , you will have better people at any fast food place
What a shame
One good place I usually go fir a good food GONE
Again it is a shame
Their Covid precautions are outstanding! Totally would dine there again!
We have been to the Coronado location and had a fabulous experience. So when this branch closer to my home reopened after lockdown I was so excited to secure a reservation for my anniversary well in advance. The first problem occurred when checking in and the hostess could not find our reservation insisting that we did not have one until I showed her my confirmation on my phone. She then asked if an inside table would be OK, despite my specific request for an outdoor table when I had made my reservation three weeks in advance. Since this was our first outing after lock down I wanted everything to go smoothly so I said no problem. We were seated at a table inside but right near the door that went outside so we were able to enjoy a somewhat cut off view of the water. The next problem occurred when it seemed that we had three waiters for our table, but none could seem to pay any particular attention to us. So when the breadwinner ran out it took the waiter who brought our main courts out to notice that we had no bread and ask if we wanted more, to which we replied we would. When the main course was brought out by another waitress she asked if we would like fresh grated Parmesan for our pasta and we both responded that we would. After not returning we stopped one of the other waiters and asked again. We also waited a significant period of time after dessert when no one checked to see if we wanted anything else or the check, so I finally caught one of the waiters as he was walking by to request our check. The saving grace is that the food was amazing! I had the shell pasta with porcini mushrooms and truffles and it was divine. Husband had the penne all’s vodka and loved it. We both enjoyed the tiramisu and cappuccino that finished our meal. Also enjoyed the house wine flight very much and made the transgressions a bit easier to take. Overall a disappointing anniversary but we ate well.
Very attentive service, excellent view, food was served hot.
Excellent service, amazing food, and a beautiful view!
We were dining for my husband’s b-day. When I made the reservation I requested a table on the patio for ambiance.
When we arrived, it was obvious our request wasn’t considered. The hostess didn’t acknowledge our request, just said patio was full. So obviously no reservation was needed. We were placed in a round booth w/ no view (we were only family inside besides two other guests which meant they were not overcrowded. They just gave away the outside tables to other guests.
Our server was not up to the standards of what we’re used to at Il Fornaio. There was no mention of the very limited menu items that are now in place (due to Covid?).
He seemed bothered to serve us. Very sad experience.
Great place to spend Father's Day. Great food, ocean view, reasonable prices.
It is restaurant with a nice view to the ocean. Food is usually good.
The plaza seems to be under construction so there was not a lot of people there
Great views, great food. Friendly staff. Would come again
What great atmosphere. Perfect during covid 19 reopening. Great staff and food was very reasonably priced and excellent. Will return many times.
Always simple and delicious great service!
Awesome date place
The food is a little pricey. Delicious though! Service was awesome and our waitress was super friendly and knowledgeable with the menu.
Waiters are very slow and inattentive even though they didn’t have a half filled restaurant.
Service was great and our server Chase was wonderful. He did a great job and acknowledged my birthday which was special...thank you!
Always excellent and surprisingly authentic dishes....the best, most accurate version of bruschetta we have found since we lived in southern Italy. The setting and largely Italian staff are the icing on the cake! Even the affogatto is correct!
When we first sat down the table top was still sticky and wet. Asked server to come help take care of it and did nothing. Also, the calamari frittes was terrible. They must have changed recipes, not good.
I highly recommend this place. Family friendly, quick service and friendly staff.
Slow service. Mediocre food.
Good not great. Very loud
We went there for my sons birthday. It is one of our favorite restaurants because of the ambience and the food is consistently very good.
This was our second time dining at II Fornaio. The food was AMAZING! We shared the antipasto platter, and the cheese and meat selection was divine! Fresh tomatoes that tasted like they had just been picked fresh, the mozzarella was out of this world delicious. My entree, the spinach ravioli stuffed with sausage and ricotta topped with fresh chopped tomatoes, was over the top delicious. It truly is a gem of a restaurant.
service was great! food was good, but a BIG miss that they no longer make the butternut squash ravioli..... great atmosphere and view. my husband and I ended up at this restaurant almost 29 years ago on our first date.... only fitting that our daughter's boyfriend asked us for her hand in marriage this visit. so this place is doubly special to us now!!
I was very excited when I initially booked the reservation after reviewing the menu. The service was lovely, but unfortunately the food was not very good. I ended up sending back two dishes due to lack of flavor and poor execution. The pasta came with a brothy sauce and what tasted like frozen broccoli. The flatbread was very bland and coated with unseasoned toppings. It all just seemed very thrown together. The antipasto came with a tiny piece of cheese and too much meat. The ratio was confusing.
Went there to celebrate anniversary and put it on open table, but they must have not seen it, or forgot. Everything else was great. Parking is now a small charge after 2 hours, when it used to be free with validation. I guess I will have less drinks to get out in under 2 hours.
Best chicken alfredo I have had in my life! Love the bread that comes with every meal as an appetizer.
