Step inside Il Fornaio and take a culinary journey through Italy. Early mornings bring rustic, crisp crusted bread hot from the oven accompanied by the scent of fresh brewed espresso. During lunch and dinner hours, pastas and flavorful sauces simmer while meats and vegetables roast over hot coals. Bottles of wine from small, regional wineries are uncorked to complement the dishes, which have been crafted in the custom of Italy's chefs, bakers and homemakers. Il Fornaio means "the Baker" in Italian. This award-winning restaurant offers an authentic and unique Italian dining experience. Specialties include wood-fired rotisserie and grilled meats, poultry and game; house made pastas; pizzas from an oak wood burning oven; fresh salads and house made soups; a wide variety of desserts; and fresh baked bread made daily from scratch.

    EXCEPTIONAL Service today from the entire staff. From the Reception Greeting and Seating , to the Waiter and Support Team. Everyone went out of their way to communicate well and continuously circle for beverage refills to fresh pepper and Parmesan Service. Special Attention of Course for the Mothers in our Party.     Il Fornaio-Coronado is one of our favorite places to dine, especially on the outside patio in good San Diego weather. We had a delicious lunch on a warm sunny May day. The service is always friendly and professional, and the menu, uniquely Italian.

    Staff very friendly and accommodating. Sat outside with great view of the bay and San Diego. All of our dishes were very good- arancini, pear salad, and ravioli with beef tenderloin. Finished the evening with a delicious dessert cocktail - Iced Tiramisu.

    We were there for my mom’s 78 birthday dinner and they forgot her entree. We were only a party of 3 so I don’t know how that happened. We had to let our server know and when her entree came out, the raviolis were cool in the middle. We didn’t want to send it back because we already had to wait once for it to arrive. The server was pleasant but will think twice about going there for dinner again. We get better service and cheaper prices during happy hour.
