   Il Dandy provided a lovely dining experience to my date and I. The food is fresh and healthy, uncommon for an Italian eatery and most welcome. The food is delicious, inventive and each course and dish is complimentary in terms of presentation, texture and taste. The service is warm, friendly, and helpful. The decor is attractive, open and inviting. This is truly a wonderful addition to San Diego's food scene.

   The interior is beautiful and well designed. Staff was highly attentive and responsive. The food was good and the wine was okay. Felt that the menu was skewed towards carbs and salt which may not be favorable in an area with a SoCal mentality (hello bathing suit and skinny jeans!). Overall, the experience was lacking personality perhaps the restaurant needs time to develop a personality. Solid B, but B+ because it’s pretty.

   OUTSTANDING SERVICE! The staff works as a team and we felt everyone truly cares about their customers . It was a bit noisy for our age group, (60+), but they were very accommodating and moved us to a different table without a making a big deal out of it! Excellent food.

   Great location, great service and food, great team/staff. First time there for dinner, friends from Australia visiting, we all had a great time. Sunday night, so kind of quiet, but a lovely evening for us all.

   A First Time Calabrian The room is large and the tables are spread out, High ceilings, a busy bar, and an overload of EuroPop does not favor quiet conversation. It's also quite bright which which undermines any sense of intimacy. The food on the other hand, has much to applaud. The menu emphasizes seafood. As our waiter put it, Calabria is surrounded on 3 sides by water. Also, unlike restaurants influenced by Northern cuisine, red sauce is abundant here. The wine list is extensive and fairly priced. Most are Italian selections with many from Southern Italy. After a long discussion, my wife talked me out of the octopus appetizer. We began with a shared Pizza. Thin crust, correctly done and based on a Calabrian wheat . Just Right! My wife went for the gnocchi. Very Good, She did not finish her serving. I had it for lunch the next day. Even Better. I chose the sqid ink pasta with shrimp and calamari. My plate was licked clean! For me there is much to recommend here. I plan to return both to taste other dishes and to learn more about Calabrian and Sicilian wines. It is a trek from North County, especially between 5PM and 7PM. Hopefully, when the new trolley line are up and going, the going South traffic mess can be avoided.

   We have had two great dinners at Il Dandy on weekends but our last dinner on a Tuesday night was not as good. First, the place was empty at 6:30pm. Our food, pasta and red snapper, was overcooked. The meal was far too expensive for the quality of food.

   Food was a modern twist on traditional Italian but very good. Portions were just right and were timely served. Great selection of wines, cocktails, and beer. Great service topped it off nice. Ambiance is great for an nice date night.

    We’ve been to Il Dandy several times now. The food has unique and tasty, the service is impeccable. I love the gin and tonic experience too.
