Food was super delicious! Restaurant seemed understaffed but the folks there worked so hard to make it a pleasant experience.

This was a 2nd choice when we couldn't get into our first choice and still make the concert at Davies Hall. As we approached the restaurant it didn't look very impressive. As it turned out it was lovely inside and the food was outstanding. The Tiramasu was the best I've ever tasted-delicious , light not soggy! We definitely will be back.

The service was lovely but the food was underwhelming. The salmon was bland, and the vegetable that came alongside it was just a large chunk of salted steamed broccoli. Carpaccio and lobster ravioli were OK. Again, we were very happy with the service, but will not be back for the food.

A reasonably priced, family-style Italian restaurant in Hayes Valley! Menu is not large but sufficient variety to suit most tastes. Pasta is home-made and cooked perfectly; sauces well seasoned. Not many vegetarian options, but the one in our party was happy. Wine also reasonably priced. Owners and wait staff are very friendly and truly strive to please. The only downside is that it is a small place and noise level can get up there. Occasionally they add to the noise by turning music on; but they have accommodated our requests to turn it down when it's too much. Nice touch. Have only been there pre-theater or concert and can't comment on dessert/coffee. Reservations recommended on weekends.

Authentic, truly delicious Italian food! House made pastas and homemade sauces are amazing! The crusty loaf of bread was also steaming hot and fresh out of the oven. Fantastic! I love both Il Borgo's food and the ambiance and would highly recommend to anyone.

I hope to return to try more dishes. The salmon was good, though not as rare as I had requested. Would like better wine selections by the glass.

Love this place --- we say it again every time we come - nothing fancy but good food; good service; good prices; $10 wine corkage and more. Tonight was really fun as the place was packed with fun tables of people - everyone in various conversations ~ laughing and enjoying the authentic Italian atmosphere. The staff is small but great with real customer focus - chasing around serving every table equally well - while cleaning tables up quickly when folks depart because . . . coming in front is the no-reservation-party of 4 that just walked in the door. If I squinted very tightly, I would reasonably believe I am really in the Little Italy neighborhood of Manhattan somewhere off the corner of Mulberry & Grand. Love this place.

Oh so disappointing... We had been driving by Il Borgo so many times that we decided to try it. It started well, the lady in charge of the service took care of us promptly. The food was good, not earth shattering, but decent. All in all an ok dinner for 3 at $100 with wine.

Things took a turn to the worst though when the time came to pay. I got the check and presented my Visa card. The lady told me "cash-only". Weird, especially as stickers of Visa card were highly visible at the entrance doors and on the walls. Then she pretty much did not pay attention to us for 10 mins, but I'm sure she noticed my agitation.

I decided to cut to the chase and come to the counter to get the transaction done with my Visa card. The lady then gave me a few interesting excuses, like it takes time to process a credit card transaction and that she was the only one to do the service and was pretty busy. I insisted, she gave up, did the transaction and handed me the receipt for me to sign with one of the most condescending expressions I've ever seen on someone's face.

Needless to say, the tip was minimal and I will likely never come back. What a shame.

This place was wonderful. We are from the east coast, so finding good Italian food as been tough. This place did not disappoint! We had two pasta dishes, a starter, and a bottle of wine all for under $100 and each was wonderful. GO HERE!

This is a small neighborhood corner restaurant with seating for about 40 people. The place was nicely decorated and clean. We had made a reservation for a Wednesday evening and we seated immediately upon arrival. We got the last available table. There were only 3 people working in the restaurant, 2 people in the kitchen and 1 person waiting tables. We were seated 15 minutes prior to drink orders being taken and another 10 minutes before food order was taken. There were too many people for 1 wait person since the wait person was constantly moving filling drinks, delivering food, bussing tables, and taking orders. The wait person was pleasant. The My husband ordered the lobster ravioli and I order pasta with dried tomatoes, veggies, and shrimp. The food was tasty and served hot but there was nothing unusual about it. The Italian bread was a little stale. The prices were very reasonable for the San Francisco area. There is a limited wine selection by the glass or bottle.
We were headed to the Orpheum Theater for a performance and I wanted to try a new place that was away from Market St. The restaurant was an easy walk from the Civic Center BART station. If I lived in the neighborhood, I might go back since the pizza at the next table looked good and only cost $12 for a medium size. Since I do not live in the neighborhood, I will not be going back.

Slightly outside the Hayes gulch of expensive pre-Symphony and -Opera options, this neighborhood gem has been sucking up the carbon monoxide from the Fell-Laguna exit for decades. Now that that spur of the freeway is closed, it's a fairly dark, obscure intersection, so you may not stumble on it at all, let alone rush by too quickly to wonder about it. Which is a shame because it's a very reasonable, very friendly Italian joint. We're not talking gourmet fare here, just good ol'-fashioned stick to the ribs red-and-white-checked-tablecloth type stuff: veal scallopine, rigatoni with meat sauce, a few pizzas, some simple salads. You know the drill.

The bruschetta is excellent. Great homemade pasta. Lots of choices. I ordered the fettuccine with sun dried tomatoes and chicken; so full of flavor. My friend ordered lobster ravioli, they were interesting, but did not have the depth of flavor as in the my dish.
Great spot! Will come back soon.

There aren't many bad restaurants in San Francisco that can stay open, but I guess this is one. Food was cheap dry cooked pasta in adequate sauces. My son wouldn't even eat the gnocchi, which he normally loves, because it was so stale. My wife felt ill after eating the salmon. A glass of wine was so cheap it was "fizzy." The bill for four with only one glass of wine came to over $100.

Took my family here for pre-symphony dinner. Small, authentic Italian restaurant that reminded me of something I'd find in Boston's North End. Service was brusque but efficient. Definitely had the feel of a family operation. Food was very good - all of us got something different and we all enjoyed our meals - well prepared and very tasty. Will return next time I'm in the neighborhood.

We have been to Il Borgo several times for dinner before concerts at the SFJazz Center, which is just a few blocks away. It's always reliable. I find the house salad to be bitter because it is mostly comprised of radicchio, but the caprese is a decent alternative at a slightly higher price. The pastas are properly al dente. The sausage served with the penne was a sweet, not hot, and very flavorful variety and the puttanesca is solid, with plenty of large pieces of kalamata, although it could have used more of an obvious anchovy presence. Prices have risen slightly over time, although they generally remain reasonable for the neighborhood and quality of food. The server accommodated an off-menu request for garlic bread, which was delicious, but proved expensive at $7 for four small slices. As has been the case nearly every time we have dined at Il Borgo, service can be spotty because one or two people attend to the entire restaurant; our food arrived hot but we had a tough time getting the check settled. On the whole, though, Il Borgo remains a winning choice.

very noisy, very nice servers but there weren't enough of them...they were overwhelmed. I had to get up and go get my husband's second glass of wine and then I had to get up and go ask our servers for a dessert and the bill. She had walked by us a number of times and it was impossible to catch her eye. My dish, veal with potatoes and two big pieces of broccoli, was tasteless with NO sauce. We sat next to the front door; it was a cold night and the door remained open overtime someone came in or left. House glasses of wine were nothing special.

This is a small neighborhood gem. We have tried many options on the menu, and all have been delicious. My wife grew up in a neighborhood of Italians, and she says this is the closest to Italian family cooking she has had since she was a kid.

Feels like an Italian neighborhood restaurant, almost like you could order in Italian and pay in Euros. Nice thin pizza, good salads. Unpretentious, reasonable price. Went from dinner there to an Italian opera, nice pairing to my thinking.
