We went here to celebrate Mother’s Day. Food was okay, nothing spectacular to make me remember it to come back. Service was quite bad, although staff was nice when they seated us, they never came back voluntarily to ask if we needed something else. We needed to keep on getting their attention to ask for more orders. Order took long to come and they weren’t busy yet when we came in at 5. One of the servants I think was underage because when I ask him to give me another glass of Sauvignon blanc, he said he did not know anything about it and left.

First, they have the most confusing menu. Second, we literally could not understand our server. We almost had to pantomime our orders to her, and still received wrong orders. Third, we tried to tell our server but she only looked confused. It was really bad. The sushi was good and fresh, but extremely overpriced. Be aware they only have nigiri and sashimi. And the worst chicken entree I’ve ever eaten in my life! It’s called Miso Chicken; avoid it at all costs.

We were lucky this day because we got the whole restaurant to ourselves. The space was accommodating, service very welcoming and peaceful, and the cuisine was very memorable. We had some amazing sushi and omakase from the chef. The best part was getting fresh grated wasabi with our meals. I hate the imitation stuff, so it was a wonderful surprise.

As a native born Japanese, I think Ikoi is the best Japanese restaurant in Walnut Creek so far. Sushi & Sashimi are always fresh. If you order many small plates, the dinner can be pricy but it is worthwhile. I highly recommend this authentic restaurant!

Don’t be offput by the bad reviews — this is the best sushi place I’ve been to in the Bay Area and San Francisco. The fish is amazingly fresh. I had never liked tuna sashimi much before coming here, but now I crave it. The service is just okay, and the decor is just okay, but the food here is incredible.

Very pleasantly surprised by the quality and freshness of the food. Attentive service and interesting breadth of dishes — much more than just sushi

Easily the best, most authentic Japanese food in Walnut Creek. Great sushi and other izakaya type dishes. Service was attentive and friendly. Only issue was the ambiance. Nothing about this restaurant's interior says Japanese cuisine. In fact, the interior doesn't feel like a restaurant at all. Cheap minimal cafe tables and chairs look like they belong in a trendy frozen yogurt place. Music was a carousel of top 40s junk. Also there was no seating at the "sushi bar" which i think was a re-purposed ice cream counter. Therein lies the problem, this should be a fine dining establishment as the food is some of the best Japanese cuisine in the Bay Area, but the atmosphere is in total contradiction with that. Bottom line: Great food and service. Definitely coming back. Maybe I'll ask if they can play different music next time?
