III Forks is a contemporary evolution of the classic steakhouse featuring USDA Prime Beef, ocean-fresh seafood and locally sourced Midwest fare. III Forks - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
I have been to Three Forks many times, and I have always enjoyed a great steak, salad, and my time there. This was an exception. The hostess was being very odd. She apologized for the holiday tree still being up (this was shortly after new year's) more than once, even after we said we thought it added to the ambiance. The salad was a very small, limp bit of iceberg wedge literally swimming in dressing. My partner, who almost never sends anything back, sent the oysters back as they didn't taste good, but we were still charged. The steak was, frankly, a bit rubbery and lacked the usual nice crust. I don't know what was going on, but this isn't the perfect and delicious Three Forks I am used to.
Limited menu was never specified. My boyfriend and i searched over the menu weeks prior to our New Year’s Eve dinner. We were very disappointed. Salmon and steak were our only options. Red meat is not really a thing of ours so we choose the salmon. The salmon was over cooked and dry. The bed of rice it rested on top of was cold. One of our sides was not brought to the table until the second time asking for it. We also never received the salt and pepper we asked for. Having never been to this restaurant, i expected more. We were happy to spend our first New Year’s Eve together and it wasn’t great. Not only that, the coat attendant was very snippy and rude when i placed my coat on the side of her stand to take a photo. She snatched her “tip cup” and said “well now you’re in the way of my tips” as if there were other patrons at her desk or waiting to be serviced. She also declined to take the photo and told another woman who accompanied her to take it because she was no longer interested. It was Not a pleasant experience at all. With all that, i wanted to bring in the new year on a positive vibe, so tried to ignore it all and We did manage to take a nice photo to capture our evening.
We came for a New Year's Eve dinner. The ambiance and decorations were energetic and festive. I was disappointed by the food. My lobster tail was extremely under cooked and the sides were over salted. We had to send back our first round of drinks because they were disgusting and straight liquor. Typically a restaurant, especially one like this, should not charge for something you send back and didn't even take half a sip of. I was excited to try this place but I don't think I'd be returning.
We went on NYE... food was outstanding! Service was much better than expected on such a busy night... everyone went out of their way to make sure we had a wonderful holiday dinner. Love all the glass and views of the city, and the fireplace was wonderful. Sharamsburg sparkling wine was a big plus!! Our waiter let us take out time, never felt rushed. Crowd was a mix of all ages . Really really enjoyed. We will be back.
The ambience is cozy. You are greeted with a smile. Our booth against the wall is romantic. My fish entree was presented on a bed of wild rice and quinoa. Bread service is wonderful. My custom cocktail had that big ice cube that is a sign of top notch bar service. Wife’s steak was perfect. Only shortcoming is no linen tablecloth , but it seems this amenity is becoming rare. In good weather we love the outdoor upper level seating area. We are regulars.
We had the tuna appetizer, the boneless ribeye, the salmon, creamed corn, asparagus, potatoes and chocolate cake for dessert. The servings are large and we had leftovers for a whole second meal. This was one of the best meals we’ve ever had, and we eat out quite a bit. The restaurant decor is stunning, the staff is very friendly and the steak in particular was maybe the best steak in town. We will definitely return.
Our family of 6 was celebrating our 22 yr olds birthday. The food, atmosphere, and service were outstanding. What made the evening unforgettable was our server Jorge M. After he asked if we were celebrating anything, he worked the rest of the evening to make sure it was memorable with special drinks, great dinner talk, and incredible desserts! Our overall experience was one of the best we have ever had in Chicago and we frequent many of the usual steakhouses. Thanks to everyone at lll Forks and special thanks to Jorge!
This was my first time going to III Forks and I had always wanted to try it as it is very close to where I work. I took two clients to the restaurant and was not disappointed. The NY Strip, Rack of Lamb and Fried Lobster was amazing. The drink list was extensive. During their Happy Hour they have $1 oysters. To top it off, our server was very knowledgeable and accommodating. Overall, it was an awesome experience. I would definitely recommend it and return.
I have dined here several times and in many instances, it was a birthday celebration. When I made my reservation online, I added comments that specifically said we were coming to celebrate my son’s birthday and that I wanted the complimentary cake/candle. I placed a follow-up call to request a window table and remind them that it was a birthday celebration. I was told my requests would be honored. Not only were we seated as far away from the window as you can get, when I reminded the waiter that it was my son’s birthday, he proceeded to read off the list of dessert options. When I mentioned that I called ahead to request the birthday celebration, he once again offered the paid dessert menu. To add insult to injury, we witnessed the birthday celebration for two other patrons while we were dining. Extremely disappointed and will never dine here again.
III Forks is a good restaurant. My opener, a loaded crab cake was delicious but just a bit lukewarm. The seared scallop with a succotash and bacon bedding was quite good. My wine choice, the Craggy Sauvignon Blanc, was delicious. the service was good but could have been a bit more attentive!
I've been to III Forks several times the past few years. Obviously I like it. The food is excellent.
This particular visit, the service was a bit unattentive, a martini was delivered without olives and when requested the olives took a while to arrive. Also, this establishment usually has a moderate to low noise level, one reason I choose to return, but on this visit there was a loud (but happy) group sitting next to us. Their table and ours were the last on the premises that evening so the noise continued right up until the end of our meal. It was odd, or our misfortune, that when seated, the room was mostly empty and we were seated right next to them.
At the end of the meal, we had to wait a while for the check, and finally had to ask for it. The waiter brought it and then disappeared. We already had our coats on and were trying to leave so I asked the manager to ring us up, which he did.
Usually the service and the noise level are much better, and the fare is very good, so I will be returning.
Came back since I was in the area and felt my iron levels low and was craving red meat. I sat at the bar and the bartender immediately greeted me and asked if I wanted food and drinks or just drinks. I came for both, so she set me up right away to eat - you know place mat, utensils etc.
I ordered the bone-in ribeye medium. It came out and it looked a tad smaller compared to other bone-in ribeyes I've had at other restaurants and less marbling. BUT it was perfectly cooked and so damn delicious! I don't know how they age or season it, but it was truly amazing!!!
Overall experience: 5 stars
Ambience: Quality steakhouse with dimmed lighting, a nice hum/buzz of conversation and music that allowed for actual conversation, lovely silverware/glasses
Service: Greeted with a smile and pleasant conversation by the hostess; Jorge made sure our glasses were never empty of water (or the excellent wine options we had ordered); Jorge suggested dishes and drinks that satiated our varied appetites; the timing of the dishes was also well timed; the birthday girl had a smile on her face throughout the evening
Food: Cooked to perfection meats at medium rare and medium, respectively. The pasta was also delicious. The wine list is extensive offering several of my favorite wineries and introducing me to others. The side dishes are also cooked well: asparagus that’s not too soggy, flavorful spinach, hot and crispy/flaky onion rings. The chocolate cake is rich and decadent. The bread pudding is light and airy.
Value: III Forks is comparable to other steakhouses in terms of ambience, price, food options. III Forks stands out from other steakhouses in terms of service. III Forks may appear fancy, fit for a special occasion—which it is—but it is also a place to go share a nice meal with family and friends. It’s a quiet, approachable, comfortable steakhouse that allows for date night, girls night, birthday/anniversary/graduation night, whatever, but I like that it’s also a place where I can walk into the restaurant and be welcomed to a perfectly cooked medium rare steak and a glass of Cabernet in my jeans and tennis shoes and still have a conversation without shouting over music or other party’s conversations.
Recommend: steak (filet mignon, NY Strip), lobster bisque, III Forks salad, burrata (especially the tomatoes),asparagus, spinach, mashed potatoes, bread with salted butter, chocolate cake, and ask for the homemade Irish cream with single cask Jim Bean with your chocolate cake
