Southern
Husk Savannah, the third outpost by The Neighborhood Dining Group highlights the unique ingredients of coastal Georgia. Located on W. Oglethorpe St. in the heart of Savannah’s Landmark Historic District, the restaurant is situated on what is known to be one of the most haunted blocks in the city. Originally built in 1898, the building has a vibrant history and plenty of (ghost) stories to share. The cuisine of Husk Savannah upholds a strictly Southern philosophy – working with local farmers and purveyors for a menu of exclusively Southern-grown ingredients. Tried-and-true techniques of seed-saving, heirloom husbandry, in-house pickling and charcuterie programs by the culinary team are the basis of Husk’s offerings with a menu that changes seasonally.

Finally got to experience this place for dinner and the food and ambiance was exceptional as always. Sat outside for the first time and it was very comfortable even on a cooler evening. However, after having come to Husk several times for brunch/lunch, the service did not meet the standard we had come to expect. We felt very neglected and forgotten about by our waiter, he would disappear for 10-15 min, left our empty plates for 10+ min and just didn’t seem to cater to us having a good experience. Besides the service, everything else was excellent. You cannot go wrong with trying new things here. I had the Quail for dinner and my date had the NY Strip.

The first course (liver tart) was outstanding. The pork shoulder was overdone. If it wasn’t for the sauce with the beans it would’ve been dry. Desert was so-so. Service was average, not bad & not great. Couldn’t help but wonder why (eating at such an early time) we got the short 2 people table & all other couples got the bigger 4 people tables who came after us…did they request a 4 person table? I doubt it.

Fantastic food, service, and ambiance. My scallops were a little undercooked, but they gracefully remedied the issue and comped the item. We asked for a “customized” dessert item, and they happily obliged. Overall, an excellent experience.

I really wanted to love this restaurant, but I just didn’t. It felt like they were trying to reinvent the wheel here, leaving the guest with an Edsel of a dining experience. The atmosphere was kinda staid, which I can deal with if the food is great, but it wasn’t. It ranged from just alright to inedible. It’s never a good sign when nothing on the menu even sounds appetizing. I don’t know about anyone else, but my mouth hardly salivates at the words “pine” or “allium” when used to describe dishes. But I like new, unique and even strange flavor combinations, so I pressed on. The Dan Dan Noodles were fine, but kinda one note. The server described them as very spicy, but I found them on the mild side. And while the noodles tasted freshly made, the overall taste of the dish was lacking in some other savory element. I craved that umami flavor, but I was left unsated. The shaved squash salad was not what I was expecting from the menu description, but I enjoyed it, though on no planet would I call it a “Caesar” salad. The biscuits with sorghum butter were fine, but nothing to rave about. The Carolina good rice was tasty; creamy and rich, unless you had the displeasure of biting into one of earth’s most bitter turnip chunks, throwing off the texture and flavor of the whole thing. The greens were an inedible joke. They tasted like a Tik Tok prank. They were so salty, I was gagging. Like a mouthful of sea water. Honestly, a mouthful of sea water would have been preferable to those greens. There’s no way any of the chefs tasted those on the way out. The desserts were only fine. The pecan tart being the best of the three, but I guess I was hoping for the best pecan pie I’ve ever tasted, it was just okay. The service was good though. Our waiter was very friendly, and helpful. But once is more than enough for this place.

Such a disappointment! Cocktails and the starters were terrific but, oy, the entree course was pretty much a disaster relative to what Husk charges. Most everything was tepid and the rice side was cold. The manager delivered replacement with apologies, but even so, the meal was over-salted and not that appetizing. After sitting with our done dishes for what seemed like 20 or so minutes, our server finally stopped by and we told her we wanted a check. Without any regard to the dishes surrounding us, she asked if we wanted dessert! Lame, unprofessional and not that great is how we'd grade our experience with Host. :-(

Delicious food but rather pricey for the portion sizes. Ate on the porch which was beautiful. The food was lovely- not the typical heavy southern cooking offered in many local restaurants.

Went for brunch on a Sunday. Service -great. Ambiance - great. The room (upstairs bar area) was beautiful. Menu was limited. Fried Chicken, Burger, Shrimp and Grits, Southern Breakfast…it seemed to lack some of the traditional southern brunch items I would expect (crab, fresh fish, oysters). Food quality was good, but I would like more variety. Wines were expensive. I will return for the charm and atmosphere and hope to see more choices in the future.

My wife and I vacationed in Savannah and booked a nice restaurant experience for each of the four nights of our trip. Husk was the one I thought I would enjoy the most, but I’m afraid it ranks last of the four. We are not new to “nouveau southern”, and have enjoyed countless great meals of this genre, but it seems that in the chef’s attempt at standing out among his peers, Husk has arrived at a very camp stage of life—big plates, tiny portions, high prices, and not really great food.

Husk was wonderful! There were tasty options for vegetarians like the butternut squash Caesar salad and the Dan Dan noodles. The shashimi tuna was delicious and every meal should include the biscuits! There were excellent wines by the glass and the bottle and unique desserts. Our server was attentive and relaxed. My friend and I booked brunch as we were super excited to dine at Husk. We were seated upstairs which was lovely. We both ordered the general breakfast with soft scrambled eggs, biscuit with gravy, hash browns, and sausage. It was very disappointing. The eggs were not soft scrambled but slightly overcooked. The biscuit was not throughly baked in the middle. The mashed potato hash brown was fried well but super salty. In addition, we ordered the candied bacon which we did not finish. It was beyond salty to the point of being inedible. Never have I left a piece of bacon behind but we could not eat this. We finished with the fried hand pies which had a beautiful crust and were delicious. They were the best of the meal and redeemed a disappointing brunch. Our server was wonderful and took the bacon off the bill for us.

Our 2nd night in search of new Savannah dining experiences was completely satisfying. Chef & kitchen menu details were enjoyed through each course & selection: coastal chilled shrimp, chicken liver pâté, scallops & couscous, SC Quail and carrots. “Server Assistant” shared his detailed ingredient & menu knowledge including personal recommendations. Dessert choices of buckwheat cake & squash mousse tart were a proper finish to our evening’s meal. Don’t miss the suggested walk to the 2nd floor “ballroom bar”. (And thank The Savannah Rotary Club). Highly recommend to historic district Savannah visitors.

Small portions, so get multiple things if you are hungry. I was not that impressed with the main course - I had the Quail with gyoza. Two VERY small little breasts with 3 gyoza…. Definitely not worth spending that much for such a small amount of food. Best part was the pecan tart for dessert. Probably won’t be back.
