Southern
Husk - Greenville is located in the historic West End—just a few blocks from the Reedy River, in the heart of Downtown Greenville. It is the third outpost of the Neighborhood Dining Group’s Award-winning restaurant, Husk. Led by Executive Chef Jon Buck, the kitchen reinterprets the bounty of the surrounding area, exploring an ingredient-driven cuisine that begins in the rediscovery of heirloom products and redefines what it means to cook and eat in Greenville. At Husk - Greenville, there are some rules about what can go on the plate – if it doesn’t come from the South, it’s not coming through the door. The restaurant is as casual as it is chic, evoking a way of life centered on seasonality and respect for an area's agriculture and cuisine. It is a neighborhood gathering place for friends, and a destination dining spot for travelers, with a little bite of the South for everyone’s palates.

This was our first (and only) visit to Husk. We went for a birthday celebration. We were seated beside a drafty window on a cold night and were extremely uncomfortable temperature wise. He ordered a steak cooked medium. It came out very rare! Although It was not cooked as ordered, it was tender. I had the chicken and it had absolutely no flavor whatsoever and the accompanying rice and vegetables were likewise unappealing and tasteless. My appetizer of Ham and Bean soup was undercooked and the Chocolate Éclair dessert was very dry and bland. There were a few positives. The Apple Crisp, Risotto, Sourdough Rolls, and Cornbread were very tasty. The waitress was pleasant and knowledgeable. On the top of the menu they printed Happy Birthday in acknowledgment of his special day which was appreciated and a nice detail. Despite these few positives, overall, I cannot recommend Husk and will not spend my money there again.

Server chad or chaz?? And other wait staff were efficient t and friendly. We never felt rushed and the ambience was very pleasant. All the staff were warm and friendly. The pace of dinner from being seated to receiving our check had a great tempo. Just right. Food was prepared well and tasted great. Our first visit to Husk.

We enjoyed dining at Husk during restaurant week. The creamy mushroom soup, the chicken dish and apple crisp dessert were all delicious. A great evening for all!

Husk is always inventive, fresh and flavorful. The service was terrific. The chicken seemed a little dry particularly on the ends but that may have been more a by-product of the preparation style. The homemade salami was incredibly delicious; my only disappointment was it is not commercially available. The salads and the in-house produced dinner rolls were worth the price of dinner by themselves. Husk has a terrific wine list and past experience has shown their inventive mixed drinks make every meal a winner. We took the desserts to go and later they did not meet our expectations.

We ate here during Restaurant Week in Greenville. We arrived 40+ minutes early and asked if we could be seated early, since it was a Tuesday night. The hostess said that would definitely be fine and had us head to the bar. Forty minutes later, she came to seat us. We weren't too happy to have waited that long, and we explained that to her and the manager. The manager was super professional...while he defended his hostess not being able to seat us early, he did apologize for the wait and sent to complimentary appetizers to our table. Our meal was very good. The chicken skins, pimento cheese, pork fritters, and oysters were all very good. The oysters were really fresh. My husband enjoyed his pork chop. My chicken was very good but a bit too salty. Desserts, an eclair and an apple crisp, were small but rich and filling. All in all, a good experience. We will definitely be back.

Had our 2nd meal at Husk during recent Greenville Restaurant week.....it was divine. I love the unusual choices/parings of flavors, very creative without being pretentious or unnecessary. Somehow they are able to make a dish of catfish seem epicurean. The dessert portion of the restaurant week choices were just okay, but you're full from the first two courses. The risotto was amazing. If you are in Greenville and consider yourself a foodie, get thee to Husk!

This was our first time at Husk, but it will definitely not be our last! Food was amazing, our server was very knowledgeable and her suggestions were on point. The environment upstairs was warm and inviting. A great place for couples or groups, most definitely. My wife and I celebrated our anniversary, and we could not have picked a better place!

Our special occasion Sunday Brunch was marred by the hostess, in a nearly empty dining room, trying to seat us by the kitchen/dishwasher alley, then leading us to A table in the equally deserted upstairs. The drinks were good and our shared pimento cheese was ordinary but served with large tough cracker fragments.
After assurances that the fried chicken was cooked to order our entrees arrived a mere 8-9 minutes from our order. The chicken was solid with a salty/spicy crust and totally dried meat within. Collards were in huge pieces swimming in more liquor that green and the grits were watery under a gooey mass of bright yellow cheese. My wife’s birthday breakfast plate was universally over salted with some potato concoction actually too salty to eat. There was even a sliced green tomato salad dripping in vinegar.
They asked if it was a special occasion and proceeded to ruin it.

We have followed Husk since it opened it in Charleston years ago, recommended to anyone visiting. Dining here in Greenville was to be a special occasion. We were greeted hospitably, seated early. The noise level was comfortable. The server was knowable yet more interested in teling us about himself. It was not a busy evening, tables empty on both levels. My oyster appetizer was tepid while the sauce was good. Menu read baked yet seemed to be steamed. Bread as we were told would be out shortly, it was in the oven. It came out cold and crusty as if it was a day old. Dinner arrived, the chicken entree was not not hot at all, whatever the preparation the first bites tasted rancid, the sauce was gelatinous. Three bites and that was all. $11 for one third of a glass of wine is outrageous as stated by other reviewers. My fish was tasty yet tepid. Bed of cauliflower was cold. There is no reason for food to be served in this manner. For over $100, it was a very disturbing experience especially when the server did not ask why my spouse did not eat the chicken. Having retired from hospitality management, we understand the aspects of service, food preparation, and fine dining. We spoke to the manager after we paid for dinner asking for nothing. Of course comp meals were offered, we declined. Why would we return or recommend it to anyone else? Our 34th anniversary dining experience very disappointing to say the least. Our 35th will be celebrated elsewhere definitely AND we will NEVER recommend Husk to anyone. Our friends are always asking us for dining recommendations. Husk can forget it.

It was a wonderful night out. The ambiance was perfect, loved the brick walls and the old warehouse effect and yet it still felt upscale.

Brandon was our server, absolutely excellent. His knowledge of the food and preparation was impressive.

Had the Pork Chop. It was fantastic.

The bourbon and wine list are top shelf.

Overall a success, looking forward to our next visit.

Food was very creatively prepared but two dishes we ordered were too salty. There was no reason to send back as the batches of dishes had already been made - brisket, grits - and hard to unsalt. But the moment I put the first bite in my mouth I worried about drinking enough water the rest of the day. Sean Brock’s oversight is missed.

We absolutely love dining at Husk. We have entertained there and it has always been a wonderful experience. The one change I’d like to see is more vegetarian options. The vegetable plate is great, but all your desserts on 1-4-20 included bacon or alcohol. I am both a vegetarian and a recovering alcoholic so that was a problem. Your menu of mock tails is super nice, though.

The Shrimp and Grits were outstanding. Maybe the best ever eaten. The other entree was a pork chop that was a huge portion and the flavor was outstanding. We also had the apple pie dessert with smoked ice cream. Yes, it sounds strange but actually was very good. It does have the smokey taste in the ice cream. The service was great and it was an overall great experience.

Husk is definitely a beautiful restaurant, the smoked old-fashioned at the bar was wonderful, per the bartender's recommendation, but we did have to wait 20 minutes to be seated (for a 5PM reservation!). The arugula salad was fine, but the wild mushroom ravioli were cold and not very tasty, very surprising since everything else (swordfish, shrimp and grits) was delicious (as were all the other dishes I've eaten at Husk in Greenville and Charleston). I'll chalk it up to an off night and I will go back, but this dining experience was a little short of expectations.

We had a great time at dinner before going to see Beautiful. I’m a native to Greenville, but being able to treat my Nana from Tennessee to a show and dinner was just the perfect day. Chris, our waiter, was very attentive and kind. He mentioned our show (which I had previously mentioned in the comments when making this reservation) but it was the little things. We had a great table by the windows at the upper part of the restaurant and it was a great view to the twinkling lights in the rain. As we were leaving, the host wished us a great time at our show. I have loved every experience that I have at Husk.

Husk has really gone down hill. The truffle appetizer had zero flavor. The chicken skins were bland. The oysters drowned in cheese. My wife’s steak was very stringy and tough, but the shrimp and grits were good. The waitress had to be chased down to fill our wine glass. For a premium place on New Year’s Eve, this was extremely disappointing.
