Fantastic private booth and amazing food and service.
Kyle was our waiter and he took GREAT care of us. The food was great, the service was great and we are still talking about what a fun time we had. I'd recommend Hugo's Frog Bar to anyone visiting Chicago!
Love the frog legs!!! Sea bass and the filet are amazing!!
Hugo's was my to go to place for decades, I was obsessed with the crab cakes and always ordered the meal as an appetizer. My guest ordered the sea bass which was very good, I don't know what happened this time but the crab cakes were very disappointing and served just above warm temperature. It was very unfortunate because I had an out of town guest and I raved about Hugo's only for both of us to be very disappointed with crab cakes and fries (very limp). I had a symptoms of food poising around 1am. Very disappointed and not going back.
Raul was our server and was really great. Thanks very much Hugo’s!
Great meals and drinks, nice services, good location. Totally fantastic place to visit !!
1st time it was poor
Love this place and have for years! It never disappoints! It might a “Fish House” but the Steaks are awesome as well.
We waited well over an hour between our salads and our entrees. The order has partially wrong and there was a plastic wrapper mixed in one of the mashed potatoes. Enough said.
We were here for our anniversary. Hugo’s is always a treat. They sat us in a special wooden booth that was much quieter than the main seating areas. I said an open table that it was our anniversary. Food was fabulous; waiter was a tad aggressive but good is that makes any sense. :) we got a complimentary dessert too.
I was not particularly impressed with the food nor the service. We ordered a steak cooked medium rare and when it arrived it was basically still mooing. We had to send it back. And during that exchange, the bussed removes our salad plates even though we were still eating them. For a $200 meal (no drinks!) for two people, I expect better.
I’ve been going to Hugo’s for years now, and it consistently maintains the great standard which it is known for. It’s always a wonderful experience each time I’m there. Definitely worth checking out if you’re just in Chicago for a visit; and definitely worth going back if you live in the area.
Bone-in Fillet was disappointing. The key lime pie lacked the taste of lime. The meringue topping was obnoxious. Service was excellent. Overall, not worth the price.
Our server was inattentive and not particularly cheery. I normally am not one to comment much on service because people are going through things outside of work constantly, but I don't even remember his name but he sucked. Hard.
Also, food was not good. most of the steak orders were incorrect. The clam chowder seemed reheated from a bag. The carrot cake was the lone bright spot.
I live in the neighborhood and was having family visit for a nice dinner. It ruined the night.
Felt for the money we spent for the evening sitting at a high top in the corner of the restaurant with no ambiance was disappointing. We were looking for a nice evening and we could hardly hear each other talk. Sorry to say we will never be back. Sad as this restaurant was where we had our very first date some 15 years ago.
New Year’s Eve
NYE - felt very rushed through the whole dining experience.
Food was fine - will not return on a night as that occasion.
Service was outstanding, the food was great
New years eve dinner. Disappointing considering previous experience at Hugo. I really think it was the night. Food was ok not up-to its normal standards. Waiters are normally very attentive not the case this time. Manager walked around the room we were in for a good three minutes trying to serve a steak to various tables. Really did not know just seemed to show how much confusion was going on that night. Ill be back but hopefully it was just the night and not a trend of the future
The oysters were good. The crab legs were tasteless and the shrimp dejonge was way over cooked. Service was very average. No reccomdations were offered and server was very sterile and cold. Walked away to another table while presenting bottle of champagne. Big no no! Won't be going back.
Both the fish and steak were amazing which is unusual for a seafood restaurant but the Kitchen is shared with the Gibson steakhouse. Dinners also include a soup and a salad. Been to many other steakhouses in Chicago and this one tops them all.
Hugo's Frog Bar is a Chicago tradition, full of unique character and ambiance. And the food and service is first-rate.
We were a little disappointed Dover Sole was not on the menu. That said, the food was excellent and service was fantastic. Pricey, but for special occasions, it's a great place to be.
The food was great, but more than that, our server, Ken, was outstanding! He was extremely knowledgeable and engaging.
Our service at Hugo’s was completely amazing! Sadly, the food doesn’t come close to the service. We had a party of 4 and each ordered various items. The frog leg apps were great and the soups/salads were also great. The main dishes were all a disappointment. The filets were just so/so, the scallops were over-cooked, the sides were again just so/so. My advice is walk across the street to Tavern on Rush to spend the same money but receive an amazing meal!
Nothing Beats The Tuna Ribbons!!
Hugo’s was great! Loved the food! It was exceptionally good! Also, our server Simon was very helpful. Had a wonderful personality! I would definitely go back and highly recommend it!!!
Hugo’s never disappoints! The crab avocado and crab cake are two of my favorite things. The white fish is always delicious and the steaks from Gibsons are the best!
Our family goes downtown every year at Christmas time, and we try to find a new place to dine at. This year we chose Hugos and let me say it was one of the best choices we ever made. Not only was the food, ambience, and energy level awesome, our waiter whose name was Montrose was very entertaining and we had a lot of fun with him. It certainly made our family trip this year more memorable than ever. We will definitely be back soon!
Excellent as always! Great food, drinks and service!
Loved our waiter Carl! Had a great meal with him.
Hugo's is one of our favorite Chicago restaurants. Never disappointed.
Great service and food.
Excellent food. Did not disappoint.
This was the 2nd year in a row that we have come back to this restaurant. The staff does a great job and the food was great. I would caution you that if you are going to have a nice QUIET dinner be careful. It was extremely loud and felt like people were trying to out yell others around them. Otherwise it is a great restaurant.
Fantastic crab legs and French fries - odd combo, I know, but great!
Very attentive service.
We were here on a Friday night and it was packed! Even so we were seated very close to our reservation time. The service was great. I expected good food and it was better than I hoped. We will be coming back.
Hugo's never disappoints. The bar is crowded, but fun and you can order from the full menu. The food and service are always excellent. Steak, fish, whatever, they do it right.
Front desk didn’t like seating us while we waited for the other couple. Explained my husband has trouble standing and the bar stool they offered made the situation worse.
Dinner went downhill from there..quickly.
Wrong splash given to my husband for his bookbinder soup. Replacement soup took a while to appear.
2 of us each order 1/2 chicken for dinner...one was ordered as all white meat. Meals were brought out and the waiter had ABSOLUTELY no idea which chicken was for who. He failed to hear the vegetable side dish we ordered. A second glass of wine was ordered which was incorrect.
Waiter was rushed with too many tables which made our dinner out with friends a truly poor experience.
Fun night great good and great waiter and they gave us the best seat in the house
