Hugo's Frog Bar & Fish House opened its doors in February 1997 in the heart of Chicago's Gold Coast neighborhood, next to sister restaurant Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse. Over Enjoy the city's finest seafood restaurant, Hugo's continues to be the destination for premier east and west coast oysters, crudos, frog legs, lobster and seasonal fish and shellfish, in addition to Gibsons Prime Angus and Gibsons Grassfed Australian steaks. An extensive wine list, classic cocktail list and selection of impressive signature desserts accompany the menu of fresh seafood, steaks and chops.     Loved this place! Rene, our server, was attentive and gave excellent guidance. Never knew I could love sauteed frogs legs! The Bookbinder soup was phenomenal and the Dover Sole melted in my mouth. Will be back.

    Great service, great fish, excellent suggestions by the waiter. The snapper was crispy and flavorful. The sea bass was moist and savory and not too 'fishy' tasting. The brussel sprouts were crispy and the melty flavored butter made them fantastic! The pear cocktail was great. Oh, and one of the few places that still gives bread when you sit down. The bread was excellent.

    The service was simply terrible. The lack of attention was palpable by everyone. It took at least 10 minutes after we were seated before anybody even came to our table. It was a bus boy brining water. It took at least 10 more minutes for the server to come. We put in a beverage order and appetizers. They were delivered by somebody else who simply placed the items on the table. We completed the appetizers and they were cleared from the table. About 15 minutes after that our server came to take our food order. During that gap a different bus boy came and took our glasses (Diet Coke). I thought they were bringing refills, though a refill wasn’t offered. The food we ordered, a Waygu New York Stip and the Sea Base, was delivered by yet another server with nothing really said. The plates were just sort of dropped on the table. There was no effort to present them in front of us or turn the plates so that the dishes were best presented. For the steak there was nothing else on the plate and it wasn’t even served on a “Hugo’s” plate. Terrible presentation. For the Sea Bass, the plating was nicer, but it was placed with the “Hugo’s” logo upside down. After several minutes our server came out to ask if our food was okay (a yes/no versus open ended “how is everything”, “is there anything else you need” or something like that kind of question. As soon as I said yes, she walked away. I had to stop her to ask her about a refill on our Diet Coke. My son was happy with his steak. I thought the Sea Bass was pretty meh. My son ate his whole steak. I still had about a quarter of my sea bass left and a bus boy came and tried to take our plates. I had to tell him I was still eating. and just for reference our reservation was 8pm. And the place was still packed. They came by and took my plate. We sat there for about 10 more minutes and the server came by and ask if we needed anything else. My son asked for desert menu. By the way, we didn’t get bread.

    Great bustling restaurant with wonderful food. A Chicago favorite of ours for many years. Gargantuan portions, easily enough for two. Except for the dessert cakes, which will serve five or six (really, not a joke).

    Serve was amazing but food was way less than perfect. Overcooked fish (2x for the salmon) is not something you would expect from a restaurant specialized in seafoods.

    Fabulous service by all. We had some food issues out of the kitchen but the server and manager solved it graciously. This continues to be our favorite spot
