Howies Victoria Street is one of two Howies in Edinburgh both of which are situated in historic buildings. Howies Victoria is a 600 year old room carved out of the very rock Edinburgh Castle sits on above. Established in 1990 it seats up to 75 people and everyone from 1 month to 100 years old is welcome to enjoy our seasonal Scottish food locally sourced and cooked to order. A flavour of our menu includes home smoked salmon, wild Glen Lyon venison fresh from the hills, cullen skink a traditional smoked fish chowder and banoffee pie. Daily specials and set price lunch £10.95 for 2 courses. We also offer an early dining/pre-theatre £14.95 for 2 courses (seated by 6.15pm, we may require your table back by 7.30pm, Sunday to Thursday). Excellent vegetarian & gluten free options too.
Just off The Royal Mile, 3 minutes from the Castle in the heart of medieval Edinburgh a warm welcome awaits.

    Enjoyed a good value meal for a birthday. Atmosphere was good and staff were very friendly. Would recommend this place and is in a central location.

    Excellent lunch and very friendly staff. Very good value and lots of choice to suit every taste. Sticky toffee pudding is amazing! Highly recommend trying this restaurant.

    We had a lovely time at Howie's, Victoria Street. The restaurant had a nice, laid-back vibe, the food was all very tasty and we were served by a lovely, friendly waitress. I had the vegetarian version of the haggis, neeps & tatties for a starter which was very nice - and very filling! The butternut squash tagine I had for a main was great also, with a lovely mix of flavours. The chunky chips we shared went down a treat too! The only slight niggle was that the coffee and hot chocolate we ordered at the end of the meal could have done with being a bit warmer. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner at Howie's and will be back.

    Great ambience- you know that the walls have seen a lot of history. Great choice on the menu. All the food was excellent and elegantly presented. And certainly not over the top for price. Excellent

    I wanted to experience a typical Scottish meal when in Edinburgh and ideally a restaurant close to our hotel. Howies in Victoria Street was the perfect choice. The food was great and the service excellent. Prices were very reasonable and I would have no problem in recommending Howies to anyone looking for a good night out with someone special.

    This is the second time we have been when attended the Edinburgh Tattoo, the food and service was excellent again even though the restaurant was very busy and even though you couldn`t sit all evening (not that we wanted to) you didn`t feel pressurised to hurry. Would definitely recommend.

    We had a great meal at Howies before going to the Tattoo The service was excellent and found staff very friendly .All 6 of us had something different from the menu and we all enjoyed it very much We recommend the house red We thought the restaurant was airy and the decor was tastefully done the meal was value for money, we would not hesitate booking it again

    Very busy but we were shown to our table straightaway. We were offered water while we chatted and looked at the menus. We were told the burgers would take 20 minutes, but it didn't seem that long. They were very good. Sticky toffee pudding and the chocolate and beetroot torte were excellent. Nothing left on the plates! Have been before, and will return soon.
