What Insiders Are Saying
Hotel Chantelle is where you go when it's your 21st birthday and you need to dance because your internship is totally stressing you out.
The food is excellent, table service is a little slow but our server was friendly. However the Maitre De was very unpleasant about our fourth person running a little late and incredibly unaccommodating.
Was running a few minutes late and raced to get in on time as this place does not hold your reservation for more than 15 minutes! Arrived upstairs and had to wait a few minutes to be seated. Was greeted by our server after he spent a few minutes chatting it up with the bar tender. No suggestions or specials as he was simply there to take our order. The place was very loud and hard to hear the person sitting across the table. Ordered drinks which took quite a while to come out. Only after another 20 minutes did our waiter come back to take our order. Food came out promptly but a mistake on the type of egg side-no big deal. The flavors of our meals were just okay and the service was sub par. Not to mention the clientele were all the same type of brunch going gals who were loud and obnoxious about their 60 minute all you can drink brunch menu option. Overall would not come back and would not recommend for a brunch
The only issue which in my opinion is an important part of a restaurant experience was the temperature of the food. Both meals came out cold and the restaurant wasn’t at a point where the kitchen could say it was busy. I had to send the steak back which obviously resulted in medium rare becoming well done. The waitress was attentive and super helpful. Overall, the venue has it together and it may have been a one off.
It was amazing, I cant remember the servers name but she was a doll!
So the rooftop is really nice. The service and food was great. However the music level was beyond reasonable. It was blasting so loud it was intolerable. I realize young kids think this is good but it was at dangerous levels
My review is purely based off of the dining experience. I'd like to come back for some music and dancing later. So take that as a grain of salt.
My companion and I both arrived early ('cause you know, "If you're early, you're on time. If you're on time, you're late.") The hostess was professional and the bar staff very welcoming (I was asked to wait at the bar until my buddy arrived). While I waited, I tried the "They're Playing our Song" cocktail (Kaffir Lime Vodka, passion fruit, grapefruit, lime and ginger)... so good.
Since we were both early, we were seated early and our waiter took our orders in short order. We gave him the appetizers and mains at the same time thinking that we would receive the apps first, followed by mains after we were done with the apps. Instead everything came at the same time, which we thought was odd. Oddity notwithstanding, the food was REALLY good. It was all filling and rich!
For appetizers, we had the tuna poke cigars (which actually came in a cigar box) and the Truffle Fondue. For main courses we went with the Pan Roasted Salmon and the Manischewitz braised short rib. The Short Rib stole the show! We were stuffed halfway through but stayed for dessert (Nutella-covered bread pudding).
Bottom line: The whole experience was pretty pleasant. The food was heavy and filling. Even the decor seemed kind of cool with a slight old school touch. They cleared the tables and chairs for what one would assume were some late-night lounging activities. I think we'll be back for that one day. (Sidenote: We were carded just to enter the building... for dinner. Weird but not a big deal).
We were not very happy with the table we were given, we asked to change tables and the host said they were all booked for big groups. However, there were clearly 4 other tables for parties of 2. We had just ordered our food when we saw the other tables were all seating 2 people. This was really disappointing. The food was good, the server seemed overwhelmed so it was quite slow.
Celebrated my daughter’s 23rd birthday there on her request and we all had a blast & will definitely be going there again! Also the bar downstairs when we were leaving looks fantastic!
His may be my 7th time here and at first my complaint was that the food was waaaay too salty. The problem seems to have been resolved, everything tasted great!
Very noisy on rooftop. Will not seat you until full party is present even if 2 out of 3 are there. Downstairs is a bit more quiet although music from dj is loud, but less people. Chicken and waffles was mediocre. Drinks are great!
We weren’t sat until 45 minutes after our reservation time, offered comped appetizers that never arrived
Our servers were amazing and the food was incredible. When a spot has lovely ambiance I’m always assuming the food and drink quality will be poor, but HC was INCREDIBLE. Can’t wait to come back!!!
Went for brunch to celebrate my birthday with my friends. Service was terrible. Very slow to begin with, once our food came our waitress never returned. We had ordered another round of drinks and never received them. I’m usually super easy going and do not make a big deal about things, but it was totally unacceptable to never return to the table and not even have another waitress take care of us. My friends and I usually go all out at brunch but considering how long everything was taking we only ended up getting one drink. When we finally got another waitress attention and asked if she could get our waitress since we haven’t seen her, she was like well that’s because she stepped out, as if it was something we should have know. Then the new waitress brought a piece of cake to the table with a candle and just left it there without saying anything. We did not receive the birthday sign that all of the other celebrations received in the room. Food wasn’t really great, I ordered the chicken and waffles, which since not specified I assumed was white meat, it was a mixture of white and dark meat and a little fatty. I was hoping for a great birthday experience and didn’t receive it.
My boyfriend and I had a great experience for Saturday brunch. Good food, great service, live music, and strong bottomless brunch cocktails. Although, the hostess who could have been more warm/nicer when explaining the time policy for reservations.
It was good but the upstairs was closed
Food and service was great but very loud music playing all day.
Music is way too loud - can barely hear anyone else at your table
Party of 6 for brunch, each person had something different and all loved their meals! Drinks were excellent and service was solid but not overwhelming. Advertised as Jazz brunch but Sunday there is DJ instead. A little too loud to have conversation without yelling. Overall had fantastic meal in a bright, light filled space
We sat upstairs in the closed in rooftop. It was a beautiful atmosphere. There was a live band playing. The food was delicious and our waitress was amazing. The music was a little loud at times, making it difficult to hear each other, but still a fantastic brunch.
Asked specifically for my dish without cheese because I am allergic, yet was given just that. Although charming, the live music was ENTIRELY too loud. Additionally, the entire establishment seemed desperately understaffed and extremely indifferent
Unfortunately the patio upstairs area was closed for a private event. But downstairs, Everybody had great energy. Hospitality is amazing. For it being New York, everybody was so kind. Helped celebrate my girlfriends birthday the right way!
Great food, great ambiance. Loud but a fun brunch.
Went here for brunch with my friend and we had a good time! The food was good and the place has cute decor.
This was my second back to Hotel Chantelle, I enjoy the food and
The place was fun and festive. We did not have a table waiting for us though. The matre de was very helpful and found us a table for 4 because on open table, it had shown that we had cancelled???
The live band could have been better. The noise level was a little too high.
Great ambiance! We arrived late for our reservation, but the hostess was still super accommodating and sat us. The food was good, the bottomless bellinis were even better! The DJ was awesome! Our waitress wasn’t the greatest!
Bottomless brunch mimosas and bellinis did not taste good and were poor quality. It was not worth the price.
Such an amazing place. I love coming back here. So
We came in town for New Years and some one told to try this place out and it was whale worth it we took the train from Times Square here the chicken and waffles was really good and the breakfast lollipops 😋😋😋
A pretty dope location with a good scene and vibe. The food is amazing and the drinks are worth it. Love the crowd that comes here and always had a good experience.
DJ on a rooftop with bottomless brunch? Always down to start partying bright and early! Chicken and waffle was amazing.
Food is very overpriced and not tasty. Small portions and bad drinks. Very noisy , service was good though.
Never complained about this before, but Hotel Chantelle was absolutely too loud for lunch - can’t hold a conversation and the waitstaff cannot hear you either
My friends came to visit me and we decided to do Sunday Brunch at Hotel Chantelle. We had the best time! The food was great, the atmosphere was amazing, and our server was the best. It unexpectedly turned into a dance party and my friends and I enjoyed every second of it.
It was great!
Minus stars for being loud and despite a reservation waited 10 minutes to sit It was very busy for a Saturday so the server wasn’t on point. But I love the spot. It’s a hotspot for the younger crowd
Getting too over run by HUGE party tables. There were 3-4 tables of 12 people or more at the same time when we were there. Makes it ridiculously loud, which is ironic given great jazz band. Whom I pitied.
Everything was really good , amazing service.
But really noisy and it was cold , maybe more heater upstairs can be great.
