Chris and Andrew, the franchisees of the Port Macquarie Hog’s Breath Cafe have been in the family since 2006. ‘Andrew was a sales rep – he travelled up and down the coast all the time, and he chose to eat at Hog’s Breath when he travelled. So when the opportunity came up to open a store here, the brand was a perfect fit,’ said Chris. Our local Hogs Breath closed down a few years ago, so we enjoy stopping in at the Port Macquarie one when we pass through the region. This is a spacious, quiet restaurant that will usually have a table available without needing to book. We went for a Sunday lunch to celebrate my daughter's birthday. My husband and I ordered steaks, my daughter a chicken caesar wrap, and my son a chicken parmigiana. While the flavours of the meals were great, the serving sizes were much smaller than what we have had in the past. We felt somewhat skimped by the small serving size of curly fries as a side with each meal - it was probably half the size we are used to. Two of us had macaroni and cheese as the second side and it was gluggy and not very warm upon arrival. My steak, while really tender, was over 50% fat and I do not like fatty meat, so I did not feel like I got my monies worth on this occasion as I had to leave a lot of it on the plate. Service was average - they were quick to take our drink order when we first sat down, but it took a while for them to return to then take our meal orders. Anyway, we will still go back, but I probably won't get a steak again next time as it's too much money to gamble with to potentially not end up with a nice, non-fatty piece of steak.

The atmosphere and staff were amazing unfortunately we had garlic bread, loaded fries and salt & pepper calamari that were cold and not crispy

We went for Valentine’s Day dinner. Food was good. Love the curly fries. Cocktails are always a must.

We got our food after 45 min and it was cold. They took it away and bought a new dish back in about 10 min, without my sauce and obviously heated it in the microwave. Steak was hard to chew, over cooked. Won’t be attending again

Overall was great - except we asked for our appetisers to come out before our main meals and that didn’t happen and we ended up cancelling our appetisers. Very disappointed.

Worst dining experience. Waited an hour for meal. Had to rush to eat as had a pre booked show we had to be at. Thought booking at 6 would allow us enough time considering show wasnt till 8 but no. Didnt get to go to bathroom or get pre drinks for show as we had to be in there before doors shut. My fathers steak sandwich was cold. My vegatables were raw. No one advised us they were running behind. We watched a couple walk in after us, eat, pay, and leave and we still didnt know why our meals hadnt come. Never eating at any Hogs breath ever again as this is the second time ive had a bad experience both at Port Macquarie
