   it is not just a meal. it is an experience. Do not go if you are in a rush. Although the individual masterpieces come out without waiting, each taste is meant to be savored. A restaurant seating 15- with only 2 seatings a night, it is individualized.

   We've been to Hikari once before, about a month ago. So when brother and sister in law wanted to try it, we decided to go with them since we liked it the 1st time. Honestly I expected the same food/experience since its only been a month. Boy was I wrong the whole menu and presentation was different, we were blown away once again!!! if you are looking for authentic Omakase yoy have to try Hikari!!

   We celebrated my mother’s birthday at Hikari and were blown away by the artistry of the Omakase. Each course was thoughtfully crafted. We enjoyed learning about the sources of the ingredients and preparation methods that went into each course. The chefs and staff were attentive and happy to answer our questions.     An experience at the highest level, both in the quality of the food as well as the deep level of gratitude in the preparation and service of it. If you appreciate an intimate education with a spectacular meal, then make sure you try the Omakase... It's well worth it and will blow your mind.

    Simply an outstanding experience. We attended the reservation omekase experience. The small venue was comfortably seated, and with fewer patrons than a larger place means a quiet, relaxing atmosphere. The staff were attentive, friendly, and seemed genuinely happy. The chef's passion for his work, both the food itself and the ambience of the location, was clearly visible. I greatly enjoyed learning about the food itself as well as the intention behind its creation. I was pleasantly surprised by several of the dishes, having never had such a silky smooth savory custard or properly aged sushi ingredients. The flavors were superb, the presentation lovely, and the location easy to get to.

    This was my second time dining at Hikari and Chef Sithu and his staff provided yet another out of this world Omakase dining experience. If you are wanting an authentic, elegant, creative and seasonal meal, you need to dine at Hikari. It is formal yet unpretentious and the intimate setting (only seats approx. 12) allows the Chef to share information about the fresh ingredients and method of food preparation in such an engaging manner. And I love that this is located in Davis. It is like having our own version of the Kitchen but sushi only. And the quality of fish is just as good if not better than Kru.

    Omakase at Hikari was wonderful. We got to experience a one of a kind meal as we are in a limbo between winter and spring and they work with seasonal ingredients. It was delicious and palatable. The wife/husband owner duo were lovely and attentive throughout service, as were the two servers. My partner and I will definitely be back!

    Amazing dining experience. The owner and chefs introduced each course with background on the sourcing, aging, and preparation of each dish. Small intimate restaurant, perhaps twelve diners, open to kitchen. Inventive dishes with fresh ingredients and a commitment to supporting sustainable practices. We will definitely come back!

    WOW!! I went to Hikare before and tried to describe it to my "foodie" family, using every superlative possible. Then I took them there last weekend and they said it was way BETTER than I'd described. Every bite is amazing; unusual, exquisite tastes all beautifully prepared. It is true omikase; you get what the chef prepares. And he does a FABULOUS job!! We were all full and satisfied. My STRONGEST recomomendation!

    We had an amazing experience at Hikari Sushi, we did the Omakase experience. What a special experience it was, the fish was so fresh so delicious, just melts in you’re mouth. The plating was beautiful. Each dish unique. The chefs were so friendly so pleasant. The sake selection is on point. Can’t wait to go back. Would drive 1hr again just for this place.

    Omakase at Hikari is the experience that every sushi lover dreams of. All the fish was so fresh and perfectly prepared to highlight the flavors. Sithu and Zin put a lot of heart and passion into their craft, it truly is an art to watch them and dine with them. I’ve gone twice and it was even better the second time around because they’re always striving for perfection. My favorite dishes include the blue fin tuna and uni. I always try new dishes every time I come and I always learn more about the world of sushi.

    We arrived early. They told us to wait for another 10 minutes, then they closed the main door. It was cold outside so my family killed time by walking in downtown Davis. We have been to other Japanese fine dining experience. Usually, they let the patrons/customer come inside, get them settled & offer drinks while waiting. When you celebrate a special occasion like birthdays. You usually get a special shout out or a Happy Birthday writing on the dessert. We try to support businesses in Davis esp family owned. The chef owner explained each dish, it was educational. All the seafood esp the fish were fresh and of high quality. Loved the wagyu and tuna. It was delicious. Service was great. Overall, we had a great Omakase experience for a family of 4 ( 2 teenagers ).

    Amazing Omakase experience! We’ve also been in for Hikari a couple of times. The sushi (all of the food, really) is of exceptional quality. Service is on par with the best restaurants we’ve been to. This little gem is great to have closer to home compared to places like San Francisco, Napa, or Sacramento. (We live in Winters.) I highly recommend it though, for selfish reasons, don’t want it to get too popular and then have difficulty getting in myself! Seriously though, the best sushi around!

    HiKari was amazing. I am so excited that we finally have such an awesome high end restaurant in Davis. The sushi was delicious and varied. Each bite was special as well as beautiful. They have created a warm comfortable serene setting in their tiny space. The service was attentive, thoughtful and informative. I have been to some high end Japanese restaurants in Sacramento and San Francisco and HiKari was the best. We hope to make this our New Year’s Eve tradition.

    An intimate, elegant and artistic dining experience in Davis. The food is outstanding...MICHELIN star quality. The personal touch placed on each of their Omakase entrees was a tasting experience in itself. We enjoyed tasting a wide variety of seafood, beef and vegetables. If you love The Kitchen in Sacramento-Hikari is a must. Can't wait to go back!
