   Seating was easy. We showed up early, they took us in. The 1944 mai tai was heavy handed in booze and not mixed well. I sent it back and got the other mai tai. That was moderately better, neither one was worth $20. The server seemed less than thrilled and attentive drawing a b-line straight to the back ignoring any form of eye contact. Ordered my burger medium, it came out rare, bloody, and falling apart in chunks. I would have sent it back, but I was pretty much ready to leave without anything else brought out aside from the check. I ate the parts I could and left the rest to the flys that were nonstop. The B team was definitely on shift, or, at least I hope so.

   The Hau Tree (formerly Hau Tree Lanai) is in new hands since the last visit. The hotel ownership has changed, the name, and the chef. It remains for the most part, as it was. An amazing location, that is intimate, simple, and beautiful with beach, ocean, city, and mountain views — especially at sunset and with Honolulu’s city lights. The menu is fresh and new, we did sharing courses and the kitchen split things without our having to ask. Drinks were refreshing, recommend the traditional Mai Tai. Presentation and taste were Michelin mention worthy, our server Cloe was attentive and personable! It was a memorable dining experience, and we were not rushed as many couples ate and ran. If there’s another Honolulu trip in the cards, the Hau Tree will be on the list for all the reasons mentioned.

   Hau Tree offers an amazing atmosphere right on the beach—perfect for a relaxing meal with a view. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. I’ll definitely be coming back!

   Great dining experience but we were sad that majority of the food items we wanted to order were not available. I also would’ve liked sitting at a dining table near the ground floor level but was unable to do so being that only counter or bar seating was available when booking on OpenTable.

   Michael and the whole team made our anniversary dinner so special. What we really enjoyed was that when we told Michael we were pretty tired and could bared keep our eyes open, from flying in that day and that we would go ahead and order, he kept the pace going, so we could get some much needed rest. The food was carefully prepared and every dish we tried reflected the fresh ingredients and talented kitchen. It

   Food flavor combinations are a little different than the typical American fare I’m used to, but they do it perfectly. Everything we all tried was really delicious. The focaccia, burrata apps were favorites, as well as the pasta mains and eggplant side. Also the drinks were great as well. We tried mixed drinks, non alcoholic drinks and beer. The ambiance can’t be beat. Try to reserve during the sunset. Service was friendly and attentive, but not overbearing. The only negative is that it’s a bit pricey, but for the ambience & high qualify food while visiting Hawaii it is ok. We used this restaurant as our last family dinner on our vacation in Hawaii. It was a perfect ending.
