I chose the restaurant because of the gluten free options. The crab cakes were awesome! Good wine selection as well. My date got the rockfish special and it was very tasty too. The restaurant was converted from an old house and has a lot of character. Also has onsite parking. Highly recommend.
We invited friends from Maryland to join us at Hamrock's before a show at GMU. We enjoyed the food, the vegetarian risotto was a real hit, as was the grilled salmon. Also the crispy brussels sprouts. We were able to carry on a good conversation, even though the restaurant was quite busy. Overall, very pleasant experience, and good value. And the parking lot next to the building makes dining in Fairfax very pleasant. We were only 5 minutes from the Center for the Arts parking, and we really recommend Hamrock's before any show at GMU, very convenient and very good.
Wonderful neighborhood gem. Perfect brunch spot with a great menu. Coffee was good, and the selection of menu items was extensive. I can't wait to come back when I'm in town.
The food was spectacular, the ambiance so so, the service good. Overall well worth it and we will be back!
I had the deviled eggs and the pork chop, both dishes were excellent! Loved the wine flight too!
We went on a quiet Thursday and everything was spectacular. Wait staff were friendly, the wine selection was great and the food was even better. Will be going back soon.
The Penne Pasta w/ Shrimp & Andouille Sausage was delicous, the seasoning was excellent. Great service, I will come back again!

I took my family and friends from out of town for dinner and they loved it
Met my diabetic friend for lunch, both Type 1 so we are careful what we eat. Also, I am on a GF diet, and this place had a lot of choices! Ended up with the salmon salad, which was beautifully cooked, glaze was excellent and mango salsa could have been a bit spicier, but it was good. Dressing on salad, excellent as well!
Had a wondeful birthday lunch with my sister here. The food was good and the waitress was outstanding. It was a beautiful day so we could eat on the lovely outdoor porch. This place is a new favorite.
All in our party, including the gluten free diners, were very pleased with their menu selections--all different. The setting in a historic house in the heart of Fairfax is interesting and fun. Since it was lunch, we were able to park in a space adjacent to the restaurant. We would definitely go to Hamrock's on another occasion.
Everything was great! Service was amazing, the chef’s special and the Creme brûlée was delicious and we enjoyed our time immensely. I will definitely be coming back to try more of their menu!
We enjoyed everything about this meal. The food was wonderful, as always and the service was attentive and friendly. We will be back.
Quality and flavor of food ranged from good to excellent. While the filet and spinach were excellent, some of the dishes were overly complicated and a bit heavy-handed on the seasoning. Overall a very good meal. We were very pleased and plan to return.
The food and service were great. We arrived at 6 PM and the noise level was fine. By 7:30 PM it was very noisy so we left earlier than we had planned.
What a great place with great food and service. The staff is very friendly and professional. Will certainly recommend to my friends and will be back next time I am in town.
Went here for Easter brunch. The food and service were very good. We did have to wait 30 minutes for a table even though we had reservations but otherwise very good and a nice place to eat locally. Thank you.
Only complaint was waiting fifteen minutes beyond reservation time.
We came here for Easter brunch with my inlaws and were all pleasantly surprised. They had a small brunch buffet, and everything was really tasty. The ambiance and decor is super charming and the service was really great. Everyone there is so friendly. We will definitely try them out again for dinner or lunch some day.
As a resident of Fairfax City, I chose Hamrock’s for our Easter breakfast to support a local business, plus I wanted to try them since new owners took over. I didn’t realize they were having a buffet. I was impressed by looking at the online menu and no where did it mention a buffet. I think that should have been mentioned on their website. We typically don’t like buffets because we’re not big eaters but I have to say, the selection was very nice. Not your usual breakfast buffet by any means. There was delicious roasted/marinated vegetables, pasta with shrimp, a beautifully colorful tomato (red and yellow tomatoes) dish, very nice breads (not your average sweet roll), and much more. The decor is very nice, the trendy shabby chic look in an historic Fairfax home. Tables and heaters were set up on the wrap around porch which looked so nice but too chilly IMO to sit outside. Will go back for that experience when it gets warmer. They also have a very small bar inside, but no liquor so a Bloody Mary was not an option. Just beer and wine which weren’t good options for 9:45 am. Overall positive experience but would have liked to have known about the buffet up front.
Had a 7:30 reservation, were finally seated at 7:45. No big deal, but the hostess was very confused and ran around but was ineffective. Food was very good, better than expected, and prices a good value for the quality.
I had high hopes for brunch from all the reviews but found the meal disappointing. They got the order wrong twice, it was very slow and I never got the coffee I ordered - in summary the service was poor. Food was fine, a bit too salty and haphazard presentation. Overall, I don’t intend to revisit, but maybe they were just having a bad day.
My husband and I dined there for my birthday. The setting is an old renovated house with a lot of history, so it is an interesting venue. The meal was excellent and the service was attentive.
We've been to this restaurant several times and we have really enjoyed our experiences every time, whether for lunch, brunch, or dinner. A gem!!
I love local establishments. I had been meaning to check out Choices for years. Didn’t realize the name and ownership had changed. Despite that fact it was well worth the wait. Food was great, ambience unbelievable and staff extremely pleasant. In addition to a great dessert for our Anniversary, our waiter Sebastian was extremely kind and personable. We spent 1/2 hour after we paid the bill speaking to Staff on a personal level. We loved this place and will be coming back often.
The place is just lovely, the food really was very good and we tried almost everything on the menu! My only complaint is the parking. There is none. I finally ended up in the parking garage across the street after driving around for 20 minutes. I would have appreciated the heads up on the parking situation.
Unfortunately everything was bland. This was the worst experience we have ever had there. Not one person at the table thought their meal was seasoned.
The crab cakes and salmon are always perfect whether it's an appetizer, salad or entree. Service can't be beat, staff is attentive and congenial.
The food is generally well prepared and plated. One of our 3 meals was just ok but the other two were nice. The main dining room is a little crowded and feels so. I want to like this restaurant more but I end up feeling it’s just average. They have a nice wine list and ‘reasonanle’ Prices.
I love this place! The service is always excellent and the food outstanding. I go for lunch and dinner and have had excellent experiences either time.
Very Charming place in historic home. Several rooms for dinning. Started with fried green tomatoes then order from Restaurant Week menu. Enjoyed Brussel Sprouts and deviled eggs as appetizer. I ordered crab cakes. My colleague ordered a filet. Both entrees were cooked perfectly and were excellent. We also ordered dessert. I had lemon cello cake my friend had the apple cobbler. We had a fabulous meal. There is a charming porch in the front of the restaurant that we are looking forward to visiting when the weather is warmer.
Hamrock's is in an old home that provides a cozy atmosphere. They also have a terrific porch for outdoor dining. The staff is friendly, the food is great and the prices are good. In addition, it is in the walkable Old Town section of Fairfax City, so one can take a stroll before or after dinner. You just feel comfortable at Hamrock's.
The food here is very tasty. When you order an entree, it comes with a vegetable and starch. But you can substitute (for example I hate carrots but got creamed spinach instead). I have eaten here for both lunch and dinner. The meal is satisfying, delicious, and filling. The wait staff is excellent. They come by on a regular basis but it’s not hovering. I don’t mind paying the higher price for meals because it is good food. You do have to make reservations on Saturday nights, and we made reservations on a Friday night just in case. They do close during parts of the day, so check their website for hours so you won’t be disappointed. I have had the salmon, different kinds of chicken, and steak. I will definitely be coming back, and definitely recommend this restaurant. I love this place.
This was our first visit to Hamrock's Restaurant and what a delight. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The lunch menu had excellent selections for all and really was very good. One of the best Ruben sandwiches I have had in a while. The Avocado salad with seafood was a hit and was really quite good if you like a whole avocado with plenty of seafood stuffing. The owners have make an effort to keep the old home charm while offering great cuisine. We will definitely dine here again soon.
We love Hamrock's! The food is always great, and the service is awesome.
Great place to have a birthday meal with family.
The host was very polite and able to accommodate us even though she seemed to be very busy. The food was delicious! The staff was delightful. We shall definitely come back to Hamrock's.
I had heard a lot of good things about this restaurant so when a few of my friends wanted to get together I went ahead and made a reservation for Sunday brunch. We were seated at a lovely table in a timely manner. We quickly received menus and our water glasses were filled. Our server came to take our drink orders. Three of us ordered peach mango mimosas. Our drinks came, but they were traditional mimosas with orange juice. Our server quickly corrected his error and brought what he said were peach mango mimosas. Unfortunately they were warm and there was no taste of peach or mango. We also requested milk for coffee and jelly for toast but our server forgot to bring it. Since he did not check on us very often, we ended up going without these items for most of our meal. He also never brought the avocado bruschetta appetizer I ordered. Our meals were yummy and we also enjoyed the muffin and popover basket! I would definitely go to this restaurant again, but I would hope to get a different server!
