We dine out fairly frequently so I was looking for someplace unique and new to us without having to trek all of the way into DC. It also had to be special enough to be a worthy of "special occasion" status (my wife's birthday). I found Hamrock's on Open Table and, based on the description, decided to give it a try. I am not sure how we have overlooked it before, but it was a real find! It is located in the middle of downtown Fairfax city in a charming, historic home that dates back to the 1800's. The food and service were great and we loved the look and feel. Portions were generous with a nice mix of creativity and selection. Hamrock's will definitely be high on our list of "go to" locations in the future!
We had Father’s Day dinner and I would highly recommend it. We can’t to go back.
Beautiful ambiance in a historic home with wrap around porch and outdoor seating available. Friendly and accommodating staff. Enjoyed the avocado bruschetta and potato hash Benedict. Three mimosa flavors including peach mango. Mini blueberry muffins and popovers brought to your table complimentary.
Very friendly staff. Efficient service. Reasonable prices.
Sat on the patio for gorgeous weather and old town ambiance. Our server Jeremy was amazing (as always). Love walking to Hamrock's for local charm and great food.
We went for a late brunch and sat on the back side of the porch. The inside is just as special and charming, but outside was private and quiet. The trees were lovely. Excellent food and service. Everyone was thrilled!
The food was delicious and served beautifully on the plate. I had the swordfish special and the fish was so tender and juicy and well seasoned. My husband is very picky and he had the ribeye and said if was delicious! The weather was beautiful, so most other guest were seated on the outdoor porch, but we sat inside. The "old house" was very quaint!
Outdoor seating, 80deg, 6PM summer evening, light breeze; environment was soothing, grounding, and thoroughly enjoyable. We had the sea scallops which were cooked perfectly and served with a flavorful sauce and a corn accent. Strawberry cake for desert. All the food was impeccable. Service was a bit sporadic. Our server had been assigned a large table inside the restaurant and seemed to have trouble getting to us. I had to go find her both to order our dessert and to request a check. I think I perceive a management challenge - at least on that evening, at that time.
Our service by David was attentive and accommodating. We were disappointed that it didn't have a full service bar only wine and beer. Lovely porch. Food was good but a little pricey for quality.
The service was great and the food was delicious. The outdoor dining was an added treat.
Overall very pleasant: Reasonably easy to hold conversation, better than most places, but still some noise. Server was very helpful, bringing a large book to cover floor vent which was blowing uncomfortable cold air on my back. Good initiative.Several cigar smokers on patio kept us from dining outside, and the smell was overpowering when you entered the door bec. of the cigar odor. Will be back.
Had a terrific experience dining at Hamrocks! The atmosphere was quaint and charming and the staff were most attentive.
Had a fantastic meal here, from appetizers to dessert. The tomato-mozzarella bruschetta was amazing. I had the scallops with grilled veggies; my husband had the fried chicken. Both were wonderful. We can't wait to return!!
We have been coming to Choices for a long time and always enjoyed it.
We find that now it’s Hamrock’s the kitchen and the service is even better but still a good value.
We appreciate that we don’t have to worry about parking since it’s right there!
We were in Fairfax for a short visit and I was looking for a restaurant with Gluten-Free options. Hamrocks has many GF options so I was pleased.
cameron was a GREAT server... she was cheerful and fun !!!
Annie was GREAT too....so sweet and friendly...and she makes WONDERFUL popovers and tiny blueberry muffins !!! All our meals were good too :)
We had such a fun time at brunch....good service good food good atmosphere!!
we'll be back soon !!
Great food. Great service. Unique and charming place. Next time I’m eating outside!
This was our first visit to Hamrock's and it will definitely not be our last. I wanted somewhere special to celebrate our 27th anniversary and have admired this stately Fairfax home with a large wrap around porch for some time. Built in 1842, the home is gracious and the restaurant is a fine way to use the attractive rooms. The food was excellent! We split a Caesar salad and then both ordered crab cakes. Assumed my husband would go for the scallops but not this time. We were both delighted with the thin crisp crust and moist, succulent lumps of crab with just the right seasoning and no filler. Truly the best we've had in years. The gratin potatoes and grilled squash were excellent sides as well and added a nice balance of taste and texture. I had the Pinot grigio and my spouse has the wine flight. We ended with a scoop of ice cream each. I had the maple walnut and he chose the black raspberry chocolate chip ice cream. Both were excellent. The black raspberry was particularly noteworthy for it's slightly tart and clean raspberry taste. To often all you taste is overly sweet syrup dominated by the chocolate.
We look forward to returning for the scallops and pork chop, and at some point the fried chicken. Lots to look forward to.
Our table was ready at the appointed time of our reservation. Our server was friendly and attentive. The menu selections were many and our food was cooked perfectly - the ribeye steak was the best I've ever had and the creme brulee was to die for. Our overall dining experience was nothing less than wonderful.
Food was great! We all throughly enjoyed our meals and drink and overall had a great time
I didn’t care for the breakfast quesadillas (nor did the other person who ordered some)- not much to them including taste. But I tasted the fried chicken and it was delicious! Our waiter was attentive to our needs and the ambiance of the house, which was bustling with many patrons, was great!
We loved our meal. Hope to return very soon. Food quality was great, as well as the flavors. From appetizer to main and dessert.... you will not be disappointed.
The service was good. Staff friendly and helpful. On this night the restaurant was very busy with a few large groups. There are multiple dining areas corresponding to former rooms of a residence which makes for a cozy experience. There is al fresco dining also but since the restaurant is right next to route 123 it can get noisy outside....
It was a good experience ; I'd give the place 3.5 stars.
This was our first visit to Hamrock's; overall, we were pleased. The restaurant is inside a beautiful historic home; the setting is a very big asset. Service was very friendly and certainly competent (if not exceptional); and the food seemed to satisfy everyone at our table, a group of 8 of us ranging from age 13-77. We all agreed we'd be happy to return in the future.
Great food, terrible service. The waiter was incredibly rude to our table, and as a former server myself, I have a high tolerance for rudeness. The server was aggressive and rude when we asked about ingredients in a dish due to allergies and when our party asked to split the check. The experience was overall uncomfortable because of the server. But the food and drinks were good and fairly priced.
We had a wonderful dinner with our friends. All entrees were perfectly cooked and served hot. The service was excellent!
Second time visiting this location and they continue to amaze. Mini crab cakes were spot on as was the filet. We had the same server as last time and he was again very attentive and knowledgeable. Hamrocks is becoming my new favorite spot.
I went to Hamrock's for dinner with a friend and was welcomed warmly by the hostess and seated to a nice table on the patio. Our waiter was very attentive and made sure we were well taken care of. The food was excellent, the bruschetta was a perfect appetizer before our meal. My Greek shrimp salad was full of flavor and my friend's baked shrimp stuffed with crab over saffron risotto was absolutely incredible. We definitely will be coming back!
Hostess was distracted and not friendly; after seated for a few minutes, we had to go back to host stand and ask for menus. Waiter was really friendly, Food was great.
Another good lunch time meal at Hamrock's. Our party of 3 enjoyed ourselves. It did get a bit noisy with a large group at a nearby table.
We were delighted with Hamrock Restaurant. There was a wonderful and tasty variety of menu choices at reasonable prices. They accommodated us when we had added a person to our reservation. Our group ranged from 24 -75 years of age everyone enjoyed was impressed. I am planning to go back for a brunch and sit outside on the beautiful patio one day. So glad we found this place.
Ham rocks is definitely my preferred neighborhood restaurant! They always have several vegetarian options and seafood choices. The waitstaff is extremely courteous and helpful.
Very disappointing on Mother’s Day. Very small buffet, few choices, over cooked meat, store bought desserts, had to ask if the advertised homemade ice cream existed. One small table of food for whole restaurant to access. Ran out of food with slow replenishment. Very sad looking omelet brought to table. For the price, very disappointing and no charm.
Disappointed by the very small Mother’s Day buffet. Not many things and food was warm at best. Should probably stick to off the menu ordering in the future. May try again for dinner when they get their full liquor license as the atmosphere is charming
Celebrated Mother's Day with my daughter and my granddaughter's birthday. We had a lovely time. Got there ahead of the crowd. Mari our server was just wonderful, friendly and attentive. It is a full menu and it all sounds great, so bring your appetite. It is a historic house and very cozy.
We are local, but had not tried Hamrock’s before. The evening was lovely and the menu reads well. I had high hopes for a pleasant dinner. The food was all over the board with regard to quality. Enjoyed the wine, but deviled eggs were strange and I almost left after one bite. Popovers and cornbread were delicious, but steak salad had gristle. Wait staff wore dirty aprons and rumpled clothing and the place simply needs to be dusted and cleaned better. This is a lovely spot with a wide front porch and potential with a little more care and oversight.
Third and last time we have been there. Service was slow. Wine was warm. Food was so-so.
We loved that atmosphere and the menu. The old house setting was charming. The menu had plenty of choices. The food was very good. Wait staff was good, but a little rushed. A good place for lunch or a good casual dinner.
My office had a great lunch at your restaurant! The gnocchi (main dish) and homemade ice cream (dessert) were AMAZING. We ate outside (many others were also taking advantage of the gorgeous weather), enjoying the natural breeze and people watching. I myself happen to live quite close to Hamrock's, so will definitely be taking family and friends there in the future!
Great Spring evening for dining outside. Food was very good - crab cakes needed more remoulade sauce.
Great neighborhood spot.
