Great food, place and ambiance. All staff were very attentive and helpful -- and had an excellent evening there. Will 100% come again!
The servers were very kind and patient with a bunch of "old ladies" who were almost too busy talking to get to the ordering effort. They also noticed that it was birthday party and nicely and deliciously acknowledged it -- thankfully, without singing to us.
Some of the "girls" did have a little problem with the steps going in and didn't see any more accessible option.
The 1840 house is a charming restaurant location. We tried it for Sunday lunch. Sangria was refreshing and tasty. Crab cake sandwich was very good and the fries were thick and crispy. The accompanying Slaw was bland. The seafood salad stuffed avocado was also bland. The banana pudding ice cream was delicious.
The food was great, the ambiance was nice, although we were seated 15 minutes late at a highboy table in a corner despite having a reservation. The server was friendly and knowledgeable, but appeared to forget about us multiple times so our dinner ended up taking 2.5 hours, which was considerably longer than it should have been. He also forgot about the dessert we ordered and tried to cover for himself by saying it was a strange night and there were multiple new people starting and old employees leaving. None of that matters to me, the customer, it should be invisible and seamless.
We drove by Hamrock's so many times with the intent of trying them out at some point. We finally did and it was a wonderful experience - food, service and the comfort level of the restaurant itself. The food and wines are very, very good. Kudos to the chef/owner and the staff. We did not have dessert ( the entrees were ample!). We will return and have already told others in the Woodbridge area about our positive experience.
We and our friend enjoy a deliberate pacing to concentrate on our food and company. We were very much accommodated. The food was excellently prepared, the vegetables were crisp and our service matched the meal. This was our first visit but not our last. I was especially appreciative and enjoyed the gluten free fried chicken...crispy crust but very moist meat.
Love this restaurant. The ambiance is lovely and the food is delicious. I got the white gazpacho soup and basil scallops. This is my 3rd time at Hamrocks and each time was wonderful. I love the fact that the building has a history.
While the ambience is fantastic, the food wasn’t great. If all you care about is a quick appetizer and a glass of wine, it’s probably fine. We were all looking forward to a great meal and were all disappointed.
In town for George Mason baseball camp and came across Hamrock’s. Member of our party requires gluten-free options and menu had plenty of options. All meals were exceptionally prepared. Only negative was service quality, which was mediocre. Waitress was less than attentive so we had to intercept other servers to get assistance. When we were able to gain the attention of our waitress, her standard response to our statements of thanks was the gratuitous ‘no problem’.
Definitely would eat here again and would recommend, but will be hopeful we get a different server.
We were looking for a nice restaurant to go to before a movie. The food and service here were fantastic. The brussel sprouts appetizer was so good, one patron ordered another to be her meal along with a salad! I had the special, red snapper and it was delicious and cooked to perfection! My husband had the steak and loved it! Beautiful presentation and a good variety of meals to choose from. The history of the place is interesting.
We arrived for a 6:15 reservation and were promptly seated, as requested, in a quiet corner. All was excellent until the room filled up around 7 pm with two tables that were very, very loud to the point that I could no longer hear my husband. Interesting that the table in the next room, just around the corner from us had two toddlers and that entire table was at a comfortable conversation level. The food is very, very good with many options that are not fried or overly heavy in salt or creams. We will be back. If noise is an issue, we recommend coming earlier vs over the main dinner hour on a Friday/Saturday night.
Good food & ambiance. A lot of dropping things for some reason this visit.
Food was sort of gross; service slow and not friendly. Ordered eggs over-hard and specifically told the waitress I cannot eat food with runny yolk; the eggs came back totally running on everything. Took forever to get the check
The porch at this place is one of the best outdoor eating spots in DC, plus they ACTUALLY READ the special requests on the reservation. The wait staff at Hamrock's is the best in NOVA, our guy Dave was amazing!
It was a pleasure to eat such amazing food. The creme brulee was slightly watery but had great flavor. Ctabcakes were meary and no filler with great flavor. Caprese was excellent! Bread fresh baked and au gratin potatoes were delightful!
Excellent salmon and salad.
Friendly service and delicious food. Thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Food selection and quality was great. Service was slow as a large party came in and overtook the staff. I think maybe they were understaffed. Food was authentic enough we will come back for another chance
Our first visit. Great appetizers (nice portions). We visited during Restaurant Week and the selections were very nice--we enjoyed a crab cake and a shrimp-and-crab with lobster sauce dish. Service was friendly and helpful but sometimes detained by other tables. Noise level can be high if there's a loud group in the room (rooms are fairly small). We will definitely return.
Food was great as well as the ambience. The service was slow and the wait staff wasn’t very attentive.
Great food and atmosphere! Looking forward to going back!
Thanks, Jeremy, for not rushing us off the front porch. Restaurant Week FTW
Friendly welcome at front desk. Each dish had a new combination of spices which made chopped carrots delicious and memorable.
Went for Restaurant Week. Summer Salad and crab cake entree were fair. Lemoncello cake was very good. Service was very poor. Kitchen was very slow and hand-off from hostess(?)/server to male server showed no continuity (received iced tea I didn't order and separate checks were not presented but were corrected.
Delicious food--from appetizers to dessert, everything was fantastic. Great service. Extensive selection of wine. A wonderful place to celebrate an important birthday.
My wife and I had previously been there for Sunday Brunch about 5 years ago when this restaurant was called Choices by Shawn. We were disappointed with the food and never went back. We became interested in revisiting the restaurant when we saw that they changed their name to Hamrock's and had a new chef owner. We had the restaurant week lunch on Monday and were very happy with the food. The menu was creative, the food was excellent, and the portions were generous. We live in Fairfax and we will definitely be back again soon.
We dined during 2018 Restaurant Week
The service was very good and the food very nicely presented, fairly priced, and delicious. All three of us loved our tasty dishes so I highly recommend this delightful restaurant. Having their own parking in the middle of Fairfax City makes it so convenient.
Hamrock's is in an old house, with separate rooms for dining. It's not only charming, the food is excellent! The brussel sprouts and shrimp/duck/avocado appetizers were superb, and the crab cakes I had were mostly crab instead of filler. My dining companions had a filet mignon, a shrimp dish with orzo, and the swordfish special, and all three were pleased with their meals. We split carrot cake and chocolate cake for dessert, and our server brought us several dishes of house-made ice cream - all were delicious!
The only negative was that we had to ask for a server, after we had sat for about five minutes in a not terribly busy restaurant. But once our server started waiting on us, he was attentive and knowledgeable. I recommend Hamrock's - it's a somewhat hidden gem.
Waiter was harried but still good. Deviled eggs and bruschetta appetizers were very good as was the crab cakes entree. Duck entree was subpar. Hostess was very polite.
It was my first time at the restaurant, the wait staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, the food delicious and the presentation very impressive. I did a wine flight which was very good -- I will definitely go back again.
Hamrocks is a charming place in downtown Fairfax City. This past Spring the food was delicious. This time it was very disappointing.
Not a good night. Service was off. I come here quite a bit and not the best experience. Was sat in the front of the house and traffic was super loud. Never got bread. Server was over sat and not sure he was told. He did a good job..but was trying to make up for other things. I still love this place and know it was an off night!!
I felt the food was great and the restaurant itself was charming. My only complaint which really cant be helped by the restaurant itself was the noise level when sitting on the porch due to the vicinity of the busy street. The next time we eat there, which I hope will be soon we will try sitting inside.
I love this restaurant. It is very quaint, charming and historic and the food is excellent. I ate dinner there this past winter and really enjoyed their wine flight. The salmon dish I had was very tasty and reasonably priced. I had lunch there today and had an delicious cucumber gazpacho soup and warm beet salad. It was hard to pick what to have as everything looked so good. I would highly recommend the Hamrock!
Had a very nice lunch at Hamrock's. The food was good (crab cakes and salad), the servers were attentive enough and didn't make us feel rushed at all. Cute old building with a nice porch for outdoor dining.
Great evening of delicious food, wonderful service and atmosphere
Hamrocks is a pleasant place to meet and eat. The food is always tasty and it’s nice to dine at a locally-owned restaurant.
The food and staff were beyond compare. What an anniversary! My wife had the fillet mignon and I had the salmon. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. We also had HOME-MADE maple walnut ice cream. WOW! I am so glad we went to Hamrock's!!!
Amazing food and Jeremy was an excellent server who knew the menu well. I highly recommend Hamrock’s!
