Lovely dinner to celebrate Mom's birthday. Surprised us with a delicious desert at the end. Great spot in Fairfax City.
The food was bland, the service was poor, and it took too long for the food to be prepared.
My husband and I were celebrating our 17th wedding anniversary. We had an incredible meal, exceptional service at a beautiful restaurant. This was our first visit of many more celebrations to come at this restaurant. A new favorite...We will certainly come back.
Food very good.. server very knowledgeable and attentive.. cozy little place... “yellow” room needs dimmer lighting .. a little too bright and empty in that room... overall very good food and excellent service.
My boyfriend and I went for brunch and the food was amazing and when I saw our check I was pleasantly surprised by the value. I see more brunches in our future.
Overall this experience was awesome. Food was very good, but I wouldn't put it in the great category. It was original though. Ambience was spectacular, along with the courteous wait staff. Their attention to gluten free was at a higher level than most restuarants, so we were very pleased with that.
Was a fantastic date night and a lovely family brunch
Finding it was a little challenging along with parking, but worth it.
We had the scallops and crab cakes both delicious. Also they brought wonderful popovers and corn bread. Really good tiramisu. Average wine list.
We will go back.
Had brunch / lunch on a quiet Sunday afternoon. The food was enjoyable, and had gluten free options. Servers were not attentive to the table.
Great time! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Service, ambiance, noise level, even with a large party with kids nearby, excellent. Food? Meh. I had crab-stuffed shrimp over saffron risotto which was uninspired. The fried calamari could have been from Applebee’s. Didn’t even want to bother with dessert.
We arrived around 12:30 on a Sunday for brunch, and the restaurant was pleasantly busy (a good sign from my point of view.) There was noone at the host stand to greet or help us. When the host arrived (around 5 min after arriving) he was very helpful and had us seated at 12:45 (our reservation time.)
We were seated in a small room with two other active tables and offered water. We ordered coffee that came with no spoons and the cream in a drink glass (which made for some dribbles after pouring.) The room had some sloppily installed sound panels overhead, but it was pleasantly sunny and quiet enough for a conversation.
The food was very good. I had the stuffed french toast and the bacon was nice and crispy like we asked. The fruit was fresh and the syrup tasty.
Our waitress was attentive and very pleasant.
Overall, a very good place to have Sunday brunch that, with a few improvements in the little details, could be excellent!
We met family for brunch who were in town with a student at George Mason.
Very pleasant atmosphere, with wait staff who were very friendly.
We sat in a quieter back room, which made it easy for the 6 of us to chat and catch up - much appreciated when often times meals, meant to socialize, are so loud one leaves feeling that one had not had a chance to hear everyone's news...
First brunch courses of fried green tomatoes, deviled eggs, & avocado salsa toast were all outstanding.
Main courses of Potato cakes with Poached Eggs & Basil Cream sauce, was good, if not excellent.
Crab cake Benedict came sans english muffin or bread of any kind. Good, but not as filling as one would have presumed. Stuffed French Toast & Breakfast Bowls both got glowing reviews.
All in all a very good meal. We hope to be back in the summer to take advantage of the porch seating.
Hamrocks is located in an old house and has a unique homey feel. My husband and I were there for dinner on a Saturday night. The soups (pumpkin and crab/tomato bisque) were very good, except his was not very hot. The bread arrived late in part because the young server could not see us from 10 feet away and tried to give the bread to a table that was departing. But it was very good, especially the mini corn muffins. As entrees, I had the duck breast and my husband had the crab cakes. Both entrees were very good. Our waitress also was very good, helpful and friendly.
Overall experience was good but sadly our server seemed inexperienced and neglected to inform us of all specials. We would have loved to have experienced some that were not told to us. We did find out that the food quality good and hope to visit again soon.
Everything was very good, as always!
Friendly, attentive service, delicious appetizers and entries. The complementary chocolate cake for my son's birthday was heavenly and rich enough to serve as dessert for all three of us there! We will be going back soon.
Nice authentic restaurant with his own fine recipes. Good for a romantic occasion, for a date or to go with your best friends.
Our meal was delicious and service was great. Side dishes were fantastic, but the meats we selected needed a little extra care. Our flavorful filet, ordered “medium,” was red and raw, so sadly we left some behind. The delicious pork chops were very tough. We were unable to “tuff” out our generous portions. Overall, food was good enough to try again. Menu offered many interesting choices, so we would like to try again. A work in progress!
We've been coming here since it was just an ice cream shop. Best selection of gluten free options we've ever seen. The gluten free fried chick is amazing - highly recommend it. Fried green tomatoes and bellinis are great.
We made reservations for my Birthday. We were promptly seated in the very back room by ourselves and the door closed to the main dining area. Not that I expected anything free, but my birthday was not acknowledged.
The good news is the food was good.
We went for brunch and the food was excellent, very unique options and delicious. Our services was just ok, we had a party of 6, only 4 meals came out first, it took a few minutes to get the rest of the meal delivered. People’s food got cold waiting for the other entrees. The restaurant is really cute although our little room had a lot of peeling paint on the walls. I am interested in trying again for another meal
We arrived just as they opened and found staff to be not ready, not professionally dressed, staff eating at the bar while we walked in and appeared put up that they had to stop and move. Service at the table was excellent and the converted house is very cool and casual. One out of four breakfast entrées had to be sent back because it was cold when it came out. Bathrooms had not been on cleaned from the night before and were embarrassing for such a decent place. I’m sure that when they have their “A” game on this place is fantastic. This morning was a Solid B.
Good food, good service, very casual including the bar, just a nice quiet place to dine out.
Delicious Brussels sprouts, fried chicken and salmon. Good wine selection. Great service
First time for brunch. Not the best we have had there. Group of 6 split between breakfast and lunch items. Some food like warm and all seemed to need more seasoning. Great service though.
The food is uniquely done and the daily specials are very good. The rib eye steak is one of our favorite go to meals there.
Outstanding service and food. Great little comfort food restaurant with a great vibe.
The food is actually quite good. The service was terrible. We sat for 15+ minutes and had to go to host to get any service. Then server basically did nothing to serve our table. No water refills, asking for another drink, etc...
Our mains we good but not exceptional. Wine flight was quite good (I had the California flight).
One of my favorite places to eat in Fairfax.
Great service and food in a lovely old house!
Loved the Chicken Limone!
I will for sure come back again soon, and for sure recommend this place to everyone.
We love dining at Hamrocks! Such wonderful food, friendly and attentive service, and all with a homey atmosphere. This place is a gem.
I love the atmosphere at this Fairfax City neighborhood gem. It's a quaint old house, great porch seating if you don't mind the traffic on 123 (sit towards the back side). We sat inside which has multiple rooms that have a cozy feel. The only reason it's not 5 stars overall is the acoustics. In the front room, it was very hard to hear the waiter even though they do have sound panels on the ceiling. That will not prevent me from going back. I had one of the specials, a shrimp dish that was outstanding. It's worth going for sure.
Food and service were okay. Went with a friend for dinner. Felt like we were forgotten a couple of times and had to flag down staff. Food presentation and flavor did not live up to expectation.
May give it one more chance, but will try their brunch menu.
Booked a surprise birthday party here, and they did not disappoint. Servers were very attentive to our group of 6 and made for an overall wonderful experience. Sitting on the porch in back overlooking the garden was great, and it felt like private dining. I had the crab cakes, recommended by the server as their best seller; they were excellent, mostly meat with very little filler.
We paired this with an excellent California pinot noir; can't wait to come back and try more of their great wine selection. My only complaint is that we wanted to do a round of scotch; unfortunately they are still working on their liquor license. Guess we will have to pre-game next time.
Overall a great dining experience, and will come back!
Not my first, definitely not my last. Hamrock's adds an additional point to the board with another very smooth evening. Trying something new I went with the pork chop dinner. Once again, just phenomenal. Juicy tender meat, and a gorgeous sauce blend.( I should've asked about it, because it really did go quite nicely with the potatoes and Brussel sides). After tonight I will be returning more often. This place is just solid, all around, all the time.
Hamrock’s accommodated a group of ninth graders going to homecoming. They had a great time.
The food was very good. Had the mini crabcakes and the stuffed shrimp with crab risotto everything was delicious. Staff was friendly and our server David was on point.
Was in the area and quite to return to this gem in Fairfax City. Turn's out Hamrock's definitely still has it; I actually liked their Sunday night atmosphere quite a bit; it was very laid back and cozy. I ordered the crab cakes, which the waiter pointed out as their best seller. They were fantastic -- almost all crab, very little filler, and gluten free! -- and went great with the California chardonnay (Banshee -- Sonoma Coast) pairing. My fiance got the surf and turf special (filet and crab cake), which apparently they do every Sunday (definitely an incentive to return). Overall it was a wonderful experience as always, and would recommend to anyone in the Fairfax/Vienna area.
We were there for their Sunday night Filet & Crab Cake special. It was our second time there and everything was still wonderful. We throughly enjoyed our evening from food to service.
Will definitely be back and I can't recommend this place enough!
