Hamrock's Restaurant (fka Choices by Shawn)
Good food at reasonable prices. Nice ambiance and good service.
Went for a spur-of-the-moment dinner out together on a Monday night. It was Restaurant Week, and Hamrocks did not disappoint. The fixed price 3-course dinner had good selections and overall reasonable prices. Always have a good time, and like to try new wines.
I went during lunch of restaurant week and had the crab-shrimp tostadas appetizer, crab cake, and lemoncello cake for dessert with coffee. All dishes were artfully presented and tasted wonderful. Cudos for Hamrock's $22 lunch menu for restaurant week!
Was a very pleasant evening. Our reservation was mixed up a bit as there were three of us. They sat us in different areas! We were texting each other, "I'm here," So are we", Where are you?" We finally found each other and had a great giggle! The food and service were wonderful. Loved the popovers!
This is a great place to meet friends. We were with another couple. The food was good. I had the fried chicken entrée with mashed potatoes. Was tasty & filling. My husband & I shared the spinach beet salad. The menu had said warm beet salad but my salad was cold. So wonder what should have been cold.
Great brunch !
First time there and loved the menu! Great wine selections on special as well. Will definitely be going back.
Had not been there for a few years. It was very good and we will be back
It was my first time there and I enjoyed it. The staff was very friendly and very accommodating!!!!
New Years Eve dinner
Very nice restaurant. Lovely place and atmosphere especially at the holidays - very nicely decorated. Little disappointed that the restaurant could not add two last minute guests and therefore lost two of are planned guests (unexpected expanded visit by their adult children due to travel delays). However, we did keep in mind it was New Years Eve and the restaurant possibly was completely booked. This change in the number in our party did not dampen our dining experience and we enjoyed very good food at very reasonable prices (including wine choices) and excellent service. While this was our first dining experience at Hamrock's - we will definitely be dining here again. Also look forward to warmer weather and sitting out on their lovely porch.
Hamrock serves very well prepared classic American food. The boneless fried chicken breast with gravy was deliciously crispy, moist and flavorful. The grilled meatloaf was equally as good. The wait staff was friendly and efficient and the ambiance was lovely with beautiful holiday decorations. We will return!
This place never stops being amazing. Their service and food always exceeds expectations.
Very enjoyable experience. Pleasant surprise to have so many gluten free options. Food was delicious! Slow quiet environment but fast and very courteous service. We made a special request to have a regular size entree split on two plates because we had our two small kids with us and they kindly accommodated. The plates looked beautiful. Highly recommend!
We had dinner reservations for 6 people and were surprised by the great choices - especially all the gluten free options. We actually booked our next reservation on the spot!
As usual, our meal at Hamrock's was wonderful. The service was great, the food was phenomenal, and we all left stuffed to the gills. I love that Bill makes subtle changes to menu items so that everything is fresh and new no matter how many times you visit.
Xmas holidays a busy time yet service perfect for luncheon
Hamrock's is an old house repurposed as a restaurant with several small dining rooms. Very pleasant ambiance with a small but pleasant menu. We've eaten there several times, and it's all been good. Recommend the grilled meatloaf, which is quite a bit better than it sounds.
Just tooo loud. Would like to come back mid day. Oh wait, you’re not open mid day.
I love Choices by Sean/Hammrocks. The food is delicious, consistent and interesting. The ambiance is quaint and conducive to conversation. It is my "go-to" lunch place. Dinner is also wonderful. We did a pre-theatre dinner the last visit. Yum!
Very happy with the gluten-free choices on the menu and the waitress' recommendations and knowledge of the menu. Will definitely go again!
Holiday lunch with two friends of over 50 years!!!! Cozy ambience on a cold day; great conversation; attentive service and yummy food. Our first visit, but not our last!
Celebrated the soon to be wedded friend. Very cozy. Great food. Gf and vegan options. Server was fabulous. Food was cooked to perfection. Will go back
Food was very good. Two of the group had the special which was tasty. Crab cakes were yummy. The chocolate dessert was decedent. It was a Saturday evening so the place was full but you still feel like you’re in an intimate place. Server was helpful and attentive. All in all a good evening!
Lovely dinner to celebrate Mom's birthday. Surprised us with a delicious desert at the end. Great spot in Fairfax City.
The food was bland, the service was poor, and it took too long for the food to be prepared.
My husband and I were celebrating our 17th wedding anniversary. We had an incredible meal, exceptional service at a beautiful restaurant. This was our first visit of many more celebrations to come at this restaurant. A new favorite...We will certainly come back.
Food very good.. server very knowledgeable and attentive.. cozy little place... “yellow” room needs dimmer lighting .. a little too bright and empty in that room... overall very good food and excellent service.
My boyfriend and I went for brunch and the food was amazing and when I saw our check I was pleasantly surprised by the value. I see more brunches in our future.
Overall this experience was awesome. Food was very good, but I wouldn't put it in the great category. It was original though. Ambience was spectacular, along with the courteous wait staff. Their attention to gluten free was at a higher level than most restuarants, so we were very pleased with that.
Was a fantastic date night and a lovely family brunch
Finding it was a little challenging along with parking, but worth it.
We had the scallops and crab cakes both delicious. Also they brought wonderful popovers and corn bread. Really good tiramisu. Average wine list.
We will go back.
Had brunch / lunch on a quiet Sunday afternoon. The food was enjoyable, and had gluten free options. Servers were not attentive to the table.
Great time! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Service, ambiance, noise level, even with a large party with kids nearby, excellent. Food? Meh. I had crab-stuffed shrimp over saffron risotto which was uninspired. The fried calamari could have been from Applebee’s. Didn’t even want to bother with dessert.
We arrived around 12:30 on a Sunday for brunch, and the restaurant was pleasantly busy (a good sign from my point of view.) There was noone at the host stand to greet or help us. When the host arrived (around 5 min after arriving) he was very helpful and had us seated at 12:45 (our reservation time.)
We were seated in a small room with two other active tables and offered water. We ordered coffee that came with no spoons and the cream in a drink glass (which made for some dribbles after pouring.) The room had some sloppily installed sound panels overhead, but it was pleasantly sunny and quiet enough for a conversation.
The food was very good. I had the stuffed french toast and the bacon was nice and crispy like we asked. The fruit was fresh and the syrup tasty.
Our waitress was attentive and very pleasant.
Overall, a very good place to have Sunday brunch that, with a few improvements in the little details, could be excellent!
We met family for brunch who were in town with a student at George Mason.
Very pleasant atmosphere, with wait staff who were very friendly.
We sat in a quieter back room, which made it easy for the 6 of us to chat and catch up - much appreciated when often times meals, meant to socialize, are so loud one leaves feeling that one had not had a chance to hear everyone's news...
First brunch courses of fried green tomatoes, deviled eggs, & avocado salsa toast were all outstanding.
Main courses of Potato cakes with Poached Eggs & Basil Cream sauce, was good, if not excellent.
Crab cake Benedict came sans english muffin or bread of any kind. Good, but not as filling as one would have presumed. Stuffed French Toast & Breakfast Bowls both got glowing reviews.
All in all a very good meal. We hope to be back in the summer to take advantage of the porch seating.
Hamrocks is located in an old house and has a unique homey feel. My husband and I were there for dinner on a Saturday night. The soups (pumpkin and crab/tomato bisque) were very good, except his was not very hot. The bread arrived late in part because the young server could not see us from 10 feet away and tried to give the bread to a table that was departing. But it was very good, especially the mini corn muffins. As entrees, I had the duck breast and my husband had the crab cakes. Both entrees were very good. Our waitress also was very good, helpful and friendly.
Overall experience was good but sadly our server seemed inexperienced and neglected to inform us of all specials. We would have loved to have experienced some that were not told to us. We did find out that the food quality good and hope to visit again soon.
Everything was very good, as always!
