In the perfect, most beautiful setting, can exist only the most amazing restaurant. Whether you’re planning an intimate meal, a dinner party or a business event, Habesha has the space to cater to your needs in a peaceful, relaxed, yet elegant environment. Habesha is a family business established in 2013. Habesha is situated in IH 35, Austin, TX and is owned and managed by husband, Yidnekachew Fantu and wife, head chef Selam Abebe. Habesha is a term Ethiopians and Eritreans use to refer to themselves. Habesha is a term of pride and used to eliminate the distinction between different tribes and celebrate unity as people of the same region. Ethiopian cuisine is traditionally served on a large, thin, sourdough pancake called injera. Injera is a yeast-risen flatbread with a unique, slightly spongy texture, made from teff. The traditional way of eating is with fingers, from a large plate with the injera placed on the plate and the variety of dishes decoratively arranged around it.

My husband and I made a reservation for Valentine's day. We wanted to try something new, in our neighborhood. We're not really familiar with Ethiopian food but the food looked delicious in the pictures we found online + there were very good reviews. The restaurant has a very pleasant ambiance. The staff was extremely friendly, from the host to the wait staff. And the food was DELICIOUS! Very fresh. Good sized portions and very filling. I did the vegetarian sample dish and loved it. My husband had a beef dish (I can't remember which one) and found it to be very flavorful. We both tried the house-made honey wine and thought it was lovely. Only suggestion is that there is an opportunity to educate customers more on the Ethiopian dining experience -- the honey wine came in a flask that we weren't sure if we were supposed to drink directly out of -- we looked it up online and found that we were. And, we didn't realize it is custom to eat many of the dishes with your hands so it was purposeful that we didn't get silverware. Service was a tad bit slow but we chalk that up to a full-booked Valentine's day dinner crowd. Overall, we highly recommend! We plan to go back!

We liked this place for the food. The service was horrific. The server never came by and when we ordered things they never came. Especially drinks. The food didn’t come with what it said it did on the menu and we asked for it when our food arrived and it never came. It seemed that the restaurant was very busy with only 2 servers.

The food was amazing, the place is adorable, and the staff is incredibly delightful. Our waitress was precious, and it is clear that it is run by a family, and there is just so much Heart there. I will go back again and again for the vibe, the sweetness, and for the fresh and incredible food.

Habesha is excellent. I have dined there twice and both times the food was sooooooooooooo delicious. Every bite made me and my partner super happy. I was sad when I began to get full! Also, the service was excellent and the price was reasonable.

Overall the food was good but I was disappointed that they did not have Zilzil tibbs on the menu and also disappointed because the tibbs weren’t purely made of teff (it was too thickened by flour).

The waitress was nice when we first came in but shortly after seating us she quickly forgot about us. It took a long time to get our drinks (water) and we waited an hour for the food. There was a gathering at the bar of the workers who clearly knew or were kin to the guest at the bar. The focus was talking and catching up with them. The young man who was not our waiter felt sorry and came to finally apologize to and check on us. My first Ethiopian restaurant experience was not a good one. The food was hot and tasted pretty good.

The restaurant is very clean and makes a very good impression as you enter. As novices to Ethiopian cuisine we relied on the waiter to help us with the order. The food was very good and the servings were ample. We didn't exactly know how to eat it, but once we learned that you pick it up using the bread served with the entree, all was well. It is worth the trip and we expect to return.

The restaurant was wonderful. We were celebrating two birthdays at the time and they brought out two individual cakes for us to eat. The food was obviously wonderful, and our server was nice and helpful. I can't wait to go again next year! (Probably before then, because I don't want to wait that long)

We enjoyed our meal. The service was excellent and the food was tasty. My only quibble might be that the incense used during the coffee ceremony is quite strong and if you’re in an adjoining table, it interferes with the flavor of the food you are eating. The coffee ceremony itself is quite lovely.
