Gyu-Kaku - Honolulu, HI | Kapiolani
Traditionally called Yakiniku, this Japanese barbecue spot is known for their delicious, fresh (never frozen), high-quality meats!
Enjoy an ice cold beer as you grill your own meat. Happy Hours offer the best deals on food and drinks, so be sure to wind down and get the night started right with us.
First time for myself, husband & sister-in-law. I personally enjoyed it so much. Food & service was awesome. Can't wait to do it again.
Cullen was an awesome server! Thank you!
Menu had changed a little so we tried something new and were very pleased
Service was quick. Quality of the food was quite good. The selection of drinks completed the meal. We had a very nice family dinner where everyone could find something on the menu that they liked.
good food but very loud place. glad we could make a reservation for a group
While our table server was great (actually he saved the experience from being a one-star), the host and other servers left a lot to be desired. The seat where my son was sitting was dirty and he was so crammed that he couldn’t put his feet down. They didn’t offer to clean the seat (my husband ended up doing it) and gave us the “we’re expecting a full house” line when we asked about splitting our party into two tables. Of course, the table right behind us stayed empty for our entire meal so they could have accommodated us. When my husband went to the front to talk to the hostess, she passed by several times without even acknowledging him. Saving grace was the food was good, our waiter was super helpful and they called us a cab for our party of 7. So thanks for that.
Friendly service, big menus, lots to choose from. Very reasonable prices
Amazing food and atmosphere. The bar areas with Andy Kimura is the best.
What a fun place to discover new dishes, cuts of meats and drinks. Great service. Lots of cook your own foods and already prepared plates, too. Free validated parking in their building.
We always love coming to this location. We've had our server on several occasions and he's always great!
We did the all you can eat deal and we ordered lots of food. All was very tasty and good.
Beef tongue our favorite, excellent service! All Staff are excellent! Thank you
Food very good. Would definitely go again as long as there are no more than 4 people to a booth. Fun way to dine. Appreciated the recommendation by waiter to order 4 portions (2 sets) plus any ala carte add-ons for the 6 of us. I would never go if more than 4 people are squeezed into a booth. We fit into the booth, but the table didn't fit all of the food so had to scramble to combine plates/cook to make space, and with only one grill, it's hard for six people to reach into the grill, so those in the middle are so busy, it's tough to eat/relax. One grill for six also makes it tough to cook fast enough to feed six people quickly enough. Standard included dessert of s'mores is fun but most opted out/would have been nice if there were other options/or none were offered.
The food and service was very good. It was our first time there. I’m assuming it’s an elderly restaurant because cleanliness / maintenance has not been a priority . The tables & menus have a scummy or oily touch to it. I’m assuming because of all the oil from cooking your own meal everyday . The bathroom & hallway to this area needs attention. The base boards are black. I think a little Clorox will wipe that out.
If you can eat through all that ..... the food & service is very good. The Restaurant Week offer & Happy Hour is worth its price .
Although the parking was ample, I found the restaurant to be very dimly lit. While dining, I noticed a big black moth flying around and a male server was able to catch it and dispose of it. Another male server ran away from the moth. At another table near where I was sitting, a termite was flying around the light above that table. The food portions were a little less than I had expected although it was Happy Hour. I liked the Pina Colada and my dining partner commented that her Margarita did not taste right. The server offered to replace it but my dining partner declined the offer. The 2nd Margarita was okay.
Wonderful experience all around. Great service, value and food.
It was great for a later lunch! The waitress Tiana was great, and food came quick! Definitely recommend going there.
Had to wait a little for table, but we were about 20 minutes early for our reservation. The waitress took great care of us. Food was awesome as usual.
Service was really good. Got all our food really fast and our waiter was super friendly. Love coming here.
Great service and great fun! Strongly recommended!
Took my mom there for her birthday. The waitstaff were very attentive to our needs and the food and was very delicious. We decided to make it our spot every time we go to Oahu.
Nami was a great server and attentive to our table despite a busy evening. Food was good.
Second time there. The staff was very accommodating and the service was excellent
We enjoyed the food, service, and ambience! Will be back!
Awesome food as always! The atmosphere is always fun as well
6 of us had the all you can eat lunch. The booth was a bit small for our party, but it worked. There was a good selection and we all went home stuffed for a good price!
Very good service. Food was yummy. Atmosphere great. Definitely a good place to eat!
Good food and service.
Not the cleanest spotless dining experience, but not horrible.
Such a fabulous restaurant & dining experience! Everyone was so friendly, helpful & attentive. The food was incredible & very affordable for lunch!
Out of Coke, waiter didn’t let me know until I told him he didn’t bring my drink, and then he didn’t take it off bill. Food took a long time to come even though it was lunchtime and very slow.
The food was good for the price, but the quality of food could have been better.
This is one of our favorite places to go for dinner. The food is great and generally the service is great. As before, we ordered the All You Can Eat menu - for all three of us. No, not the highest end one, but the middle one. At the very end of the meal, we were informed that they didn’t have one of the dessert items included on the menu. We asked about an exception to get an item off the other menu. “No, my manager said no.”
Sure, it’s a small thing. But with a food and drink bill well in excess of $120, and having dined there many times over, you’d think it wouldn’t be a big deal. Apparently it is. Sure, I am certain that buried in the fine print of the menu are the rules. So let’s give it up for the manager(s) on duty on Sunday, September 22nd at 6:30 pm at the Kapiolani location for protecting the bottom line and saving the restaurant maybe $1-$2 max in food cost for a microwave dessert item! They ask for feedback right after every meal suggesting they care about what customers think. But I can assure you they don’t read your feedback and only use it to tout the good news, unlike other restaurants in town who actually read reviews and care.
Will it stop us from going back? No. The food is great. Does it leave a very sour taste in the mouth of a regular customer? You bet. The good news for diners is this - they have one more dessert that you can buy since they certainly didn’t make any accommodations for us that night...
Restaurant was not that busy but the orders were wrong, some orders never came out, and had to keep chasing my waiter. Never had this experience at Gyu-kaku before. A little surprised.
We tried the "Custom" for 2 people. You get to choose 5 items from a list of about 15. There is a mix of meats and vegetables to choose from but you cannot get duplicates of the same item. The value is ok but would be better if you could get multiple orders of the same choice. It also comes with rice, soup, salad, edamame and cheese wontons. The service was quick and friendly. The quality of the meats are good but not great.
The waiter I had made the dinner extra special. Very personable, attentive, and caring towards us.
Was excited to enjoy some AYCE yakiniku.....but it was quite disappointing when they run out of most the good stuff! They give a time limit, and the food is coming out really slow too!! Then to top it off, our grill was only half working....literally!
#not worth the price if you run out lots of stuff
#slow service ever
Food is too salty. They didn't have any unseasoned meat. Some of dishes are too fatty.
One of the best meals. Out waiter was attentive, but at times it was slow.
Great food. Service needs work
Our waiter John really made my parents feel comfortable and explained the menu to them. Great service and awesome quality food. We will be back.
