For parties of 5 or larger, please contact the restaurant directly.
This is the second time I have been here and I really like it. Especially the appetizer board with the meat and cheese. The roasted chicken was good with the mushrooms. Oh I love the baguettes!
My boyfriend and I went on Saturday night and had a blast! He had never been and just loved every aspect of it. The food is delicious and the ambience is exciting without being overwhelming. Our sever was also very accommodating and nice. Thank you for a great evening!
Great time, love the atmosphere. Food is great!
The restaurant was full—great sign of good food and service. We were not disappointed. Short braised ribs were delicious and chicken dish. We also ordered a cheese tray, which was fun and delicious. Worth every penny
We previously have had great experiences here and so we planned to come for triangle restaurant week. Big disappointment! Our party tried various appetizers and entrées and all the food was extremely bland. To top it off, the service was very lacking and they automatically charged us a 20% tip. Not going back
Was rushed to leave so they could prepare to move tables for next diners.
Food was under cooked, no seasoning & served warm not hot
Thoroughly enjoyed a warm evening outside on the covered and heated patio, where is was much quieter than inside!
Had not been there in a long time. We went there for restaurant week and were disappointed in our dinners . My wife's fish was good but the overall sides and dessert were marginal. My beef was so chewy that even I complained to the waiter ( something I rarely do). The waiter was attentive and apologetic and brought another selection for me. Given the quality of restaurants in Durham there are other places we would eat for the money. 2 seniors who do eat out.
Better then I ever thought , will be back soon
Sound level too high. Menu
could improve with more
We had a nice dinner during restaurant week. The food was delicious and the service was attentive.
Our first time at Guglhupf Cafe based on a recommendation of a family member. It was an enjoyable evening with a nice choice of cocktails, wine and beer, a very nice pre-price, three course special with several choices and the regular menu with too many choices. Our service was excellent and we had the opportunity to chat with the owner as we departed.
Since our “gang” in Chatham County is always looking for unique dining opportunities, Guglhupf is now on our list. I may also learn how to grow the tart (zwetschgen) plums so the bakery can make me a Zwetschgenkuchen!
We also want to visit both bakeries (Chapel Hill and Durham) and try the sampler platter.
One of the best restaurants in the Triangle. Atmosphere is great and food delicious. Can't wait to go back on a beautiful day and enjoy dining outside. Beautiful restaurant!!
LOVED the food! Just the dessert was not as good as usual! Thank you! Best trout I’ve had since my childhood years in Austria!
Fantastic! Always interesting menu options, anything I’ve ever eaten here has been beyond the norm. Service is always excellent.
The food was disappointing. The trout was ok but could have used a bit more seasoning. My husband had the Tafelspitz and. The whole plate didn’t even look appetizing. The meat was grey and rubbery. The waitress was also rather unpleasant. We have been to Guglhupf for breakfast and lunch and loved it but the dinner was a disappointment.
The Restaurant Week Prix Fixe menu was outstanding. We especially loved the pheasant pot pie. I wish it were available all the time. What a deal!
Wonderful! Can’t wait for our next visit.
This place is not your traditional German Biergarten with blue and white checkered table cloths and humpta music, not that there’s anything wrong with that, but a very hip, modern and artsy place; casual enough for a weeknight snack and drink, enough ambiance for a special occasion dinner out.
The food was very authentic German fare, albeit updated. We had the Schnitzel plate and the braised short rib plate, both incredibly delicious.
And no matter how full you may be, don’t skip the dessert. They are small servings, perfect to finish off a rich meal. I had the Yuzzu Semifreddo, hands down the best dessert I’ve ever tasted!.
Excellent food, drink, atmosphere and staff. Will be going back and highly recommend.
Food was fantastic. Service was exceptional. Servers knowledge of the menu and preparation of all the dishes was outstanding.
This is one of the most cozy, comfortable restaurants. Great service and servers. We had a table of four and everyone loved their dinner. The potato latkes or wonderful my speckled trout was cooked perfectly with delicious vegetables. The duck breast was perfect. I love going here,
Had an absolutely wonderful dinner at Guglhupf. It was a crisp Friday evening and I asked to sit outside. The staff was more than willing to turn on the heat lamps and we had a wonderful, Al fresco dinner in January! We had the whole patio to ourselves. We got a delicious cheese board. This place is a favorite and we will continue to come back!
Visited on a THUR evening with family from out of town. Our party of 4 was completely satisfied in all regards. Atmosphere very pleasant. Beer list was extensive and appropriate. Service was very professional and outstanding. And each of our meals were near perfect. Cannot wait to come back.
The atmosphere was very cozy and romantic, the food and drinks were spectacular and our service was excellent. Highly recommend the creme brûlée!! Actually, I would highly recommend everything we ordered tonight. This is one of our favorite places to have dinner!
This restaurant is a must if you like intriguing new German cuisine with stunningly good vegan options. My partner always gets a smoky lager & I get the gluhwine. Excellent service & lovely ambience, although it does look like an Asian place by the decor, which is pretty but doesn't necessarily match the rest of the experience.
Although we have been to Guglhupf many times for breakfast and lunch, this was our first time for dinner. Not only was everything delicious (the Schnitzel in particular was a table favorite), the service was top notch. We were dining with my toddler and grandparents, and the staff were extremely courteous and accommodating when we made a request to change tables due to a draft, even though the restaurant was busy! I can't say how much that kindness meant to us. Can't wait to get back for another dinner soon.
great evening meal...I love German cuisine, travel to Berlin a lot.....this is better than that....perhaps because the ownership is Suiss German? In any case, wonderful schnitzel, excellent wurst, with sides to die for...spaetzle, potato salad, lovely bread from the inhouse bakery, great bier selection....even a cider for me.....and I can't tell you how fabulous the brodzeit plank was....cheeses, country pate, Black Forest ham, etc
Absolutely wonderful. Great food, excellent service and a perfect date night.
I came here for the vegan choices which did not disappoint - delicious and beautifully balanced flavors. And included a vegan dessert, which I appreciate very much rather than the default sorbet
Great local place for special events. We had an early New Years dinner. Plenty of parking for our 6:15 reservation. The place was slightly crowded but still not so bad that it was either too loud or slowed our server.
Drinks were great and the food was excellent. Service was a bit slow in the beginning but got better as the night progressed.
We had an early dinner at Guglhupf on New Year's Eve. The service was great, the food was good (but a bit less than previous meals) . No decorations or special activities for the holiday.
Great meal, great atmosphere, great service. Unique place and food. We had an excellent anniversary dinner!
As a "Pescatarian" I was a little concerned about going to a German Restaurant but was very happily surprised. We also had a vegetarian in the group and she was also pleased. The traditional German food lovers in our group were happy enough, although I did receive a little grumble about something they felt lacking, maybe Sauerbraten? But they have sausage and Wiener Schnitzel and other German-y sounding meat dishes so there's plenty of good food for everyone. The drinks menu is extensive and the apps and small plates were tasty tasty! The ambiance and decor is fun; I'm looking forward to enjoying the bier garten in the spring!
This is a nice restaurant so we expect more than what we got and the below average grade has been on the decline for this place.
Beer/wine - good but stingy pours.
entree - brauts were cold inside, tough skinned and had hard chunks inside.
The cook did the best he could but the food just wasn't good.
The waitress was very nice though. bread was excellent as usual.
The food was excellent and reminded us of our trips to Germany. The server (Emmanuel) was superb and took great care of us! We will be back!
Dinner started with fabulous cocktails at the bar, continued with tasty German beer and gnocchi, wonderful wurst and the madness of Underberg digestif.
The Schnitzel was good, the Spätzle for our daughter were very hot with pepper and salt, the potato salad was very poor (nothing like german potato salad) and the wine expensive and flat
