Visited on a THUR evening with family from out of town. Our party of 4 was completely satisfied in all regards. Atmosphere very pleasant. Beer list was extensive and appropriate. Service was very professional and outstanding. And each of our meals were near perfect. Cannot wait to come back.
The atmosphere was very cozy and romantic, the food and drinks were spectacular and our service was excellent. Highly recommend the creme brûlée!! Actually, I would highly recommend everything we ordered tonight. This is one of our favorite places to have dinner!
This restaurant is a must if you like intriguing new German cuisine with stunningly good vegan options. My partner always gets a smoky lager & I get the gluhwine. Excellent service & lovely ambience, although it does look like an Asian place by the decor, which is pretty but doesn't necessarily match the rest of the experience.
Although we have been to Guglhupf many times for breakfast and lunch, this was our first time for dinner. Not only was everything delicious (the Schnitzel in particular was a table favorite), the service was top notch. We were dining with my toddler and grandparents, and the staff were extremely courteous and accommodating when we made a request to change tables due to a draft, even though the restaurant was busy! I can't say how much that kindness meant to us. Can't wait to get back for another dinner soon.
great evening meal...I love German cuisine, travel to Berlin a lot.....this is better than that....perhaps because the ownership is Suiss German? In any case, wonderful schnitzel, excellent wurst, with sides to die for...spaetzle, potato salad, lovely bread from the inhouse bakery, great bier selection....even a cider for me.....and I can't tell you how fabulous the brodzeit plank was....cheeses, country pate, Black Forest ham, etc
Absolutely wonderful. Great food, excellent service and a perfect date night.
I came here for the vegan choices which did not disappoint - delicious and beautifully balanced flavors. And included a vegan dessert, which I appreciate very much rather than the default sorbet
Great local place for special events. We had an early New Years dinner. Plenty of parking for our 6:15 reservation. The place was slightly crowded but still not so bad that it was either too loud or slowed our server.
Drinks were great and the food was excellent. Service was a bit slow in the beginning but got better as the night progressed.
We had an early dinner at Guglhupf on New Year's Eve. The service was great, the food was good (but a bit less than previous meals) . No decorations or special activities for the holiday.
Great meal, great atmosphere, great service. Unique place and food. We had an excellent anniversary dinner!
As a "Pescatarian" I was a little concerned about going to a German Restaurant but was very happily surprised. We also had a vegetarian in the group and she was also pleased. The traditional German food lovers in our group were happy enough, although I did receive a little grumble about something they felt lacking, maybe Sauerbraten? But they have sausage and Wiener Schnitzel and other German-y sounding meat dishes so there's plenty of good food for everyone. The drinks menu is extensive and the apps and small plates were tasty tasty! The ambiance and decor is fun; I'm looking forward to enjoying the bier garten in the spring!
This is a nice restaurant so we expect more than what we got and the below average grade has been on the decline for this place.
Beer/wine - good but stingy pours.
entree - brauts were cold inside, tough skinned and had hard chunks inside.
The cook did the best he could but the food just wasn't good.
The waitress was very nice though. bread was excellent as usual.
The food was excellent and reminded us of our trips to Germany. The server (Emmanuel) was superb and took great care of us! We will be back!
Dinner started with fabulous cocktails at the bar, continued with tasty German beer and gnocchi, wonderful wurst and the madness of Underberg digestif.
The Schnitzel was good, the Spätzle for our daughter were very hot with pepper and salt, the potato salad was very poor (nothing like german potato salad) and the wine expensive and flat
Perfection. We will always be back!
Great ambience, decent service. The food was better the last time I was there but still ok for the price. I had the short ribs but one of the two short ribs was almost all fat. The beer and wine prices are expensive compared to other restaurants.
We went there specifically for vegan and vegetarian food and were very happy with the menu. Our food was inventive and delicious. The only comment I have is that the Brussels sprouts could have been cut smaller and cooked a little more.
Great food! Great atmosphere! Highly recommend! So glad they added extra parking!
We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Guglhupf! The food was outstanding -- very authentic, and the staff was exceptional. From the hostess who greeted us, to the server who took our order, we were treated in a professional and friendly manner. The ambience is very unique -- chic yet homey. It's a lovely place to dine.
I loved this restaurant. The food was an adventure, the service was great, and I loved the atmosphere. I will definitely go again. The Gluhwein was AWESOME!
Always wonderful and reliably good quality.
Fantastic meal. Beautiful restaurant. Schnitzel was very good and so was the maultaschen. Delicious and great service too
Very good vegan options. We will definitely return. The dishes were well prepared and full of flavor.
WONDERFUL- DO IT! You won’t regret it!!
Great atmosphere and amazing value for the quality of food
Wonderful as always. Great food and great service. Definitely recommend.
Wonderful as always.
The food was excellent, including the vegetarian dishes. Our waitress Kaitlin was very friendly and helpful, while also being quite efficient. The choice of on tap beers is great. We will definitely return again and again.
The food was fantastic. It was pretty loud and our server was maybe new. I hope he was new :)
Wonderful as Always! Took our daughter there for the first time and she loved it as well. Always innovative delish dishes. Wonderful wait staff! Love beer choices!
Fish special is always fantastic. My fav by far was White Fish over an Oyster Chowder. Prob one of my fav ever—yum! Again please🤗
This was just what we wanted after a matinee performance at DPAC! We spent about 45 min at Brotzeit enjoying bread, cheese & terrific beer. Then we stayed for dinner. All 4 of us enjoyed our dinner (4 different entrees). The portion size was good, the flavors wonderful. My husband especially enjoyed his short ribs with sauerbraten sauce and I can vouch for the potato salad and red cabbage! Our friends complimented their pork croquettes and wurst. None of us got dessert so I can’t comment on that. I do have to say the schnitzel could have been a little better, but all-in-all , we really enjoyed our meal and the Biergarten atmosphere. I’m looking forward to a return and trying the mushroom bread pudding.
Friends from out of town who lived in Germany. They enjoyed it very much.
Great atmosphere and the food was extremely tasty.
As a Durham-ite since birth, Guglhupf is one of my favorite restaurants. Although I'm a picky eater, I can always find something that sounds (and is!) delicious. My husband and I went here for our anniversary, and everything--food quality, presentation, service, environment, etc--was perfect. I wouldn't change a thing.
I will say, I prefer the breakfast/lunch menus (over the dinner menu), but the ambiance for dinner was magical! It was slower-paced, and the restaurant was beautifully lit with candles and lanterns.
Not our best experience. We were taking someone to dinner. Large bug was climbing behind the diners next to us. Didn’t leave a good impression
We loved this restaurant. Nice ambiance - especially the indoor/outdoor relationships. And the German food was terrific!
We love Guglhupf! Food is always good and service is fantastic!
The service was good. The food we ordered was good but the steak in the dinner that my husband ordered was medium but the meat was a bit tough, chewy, and bland. He did enjoy the greens and bread pudding. My schnitzel meal was good. I was expecting the potato salad to be more like the one that I have eaten in Germany when I lived there. I would try a different meal next time.
