Guard and Grace - Houston
Excellent service with an obvious desire to please. We had questions about our cocktails and they were immediately taken away and replaced.
This is a real steak house with 3 grades of steak to choose from at different price points. If you want a filet mignon, choose from Prime, Angus or Wagyu, or get a sampler plate with a little of each. The choice of adders for the steaks covered all options: lobster, foie gras and more.
There was a nice assortment of vegetable sides including brussel sprouts, mushrooms and all of the usual salads. This made it possible to do a little something healthy.
In addition to the steaks there were a couple of fish choices: snapper and black cod. These were not also rans. The black cod was delicious and is also available as an adder with any steak.
The only disappointment was the Chinese pork spare rib appetizer. These were so spicy that everyone at the table sampled them and thought they were too spicy. Hope these can be toned down a little in the future. Nice baby back ribs!!
By the time we got to dessert, we had run out of room so did not do justice to the dessert selection. We tried the sticky toffee cake. The caramel syrup was out of this world. The cake was a little dry.
My husband and i had a great time. Food and Service was awesome.
The experience and Guard and Grace was amazing! Walking in we were greeted by the host staff, once we were sat the waiter gave us a lot of insight on the chef and the menus. Truly, the chipotle lime potatoes and the Mac and cheese were to die for! Will be coming here again to try their amazing raw sushi list!
From the moment we arrived the service was impeccable. The host walked us through the kitchen for a tour and it was amazing to get to see the behind the scenes. I ordered the NY strip and my boyfriend had the 21 day aged rib eye and we shared the charred Brussels sprouts. We both loved our food. Staff members kept coming to our table to speak with us and ensure we were enjoying our dining experience. Everyone was soo nice. And the bar tenders are amazing they make a perfect old fashioned and even gave me tips on how to perfect mine at home!!! We will definitely be back.
It was a group of 5 and we hadn't been out for a $$$$ meal in while and it was amazing except for the loud table behind us. Our server took care of us and served them first so they could continue their night.
Cod was amazing and the sauces that accompanied the snapper were right on, but you better like it spicy. Good service, professional, not invasive as we took our time. Only negative, was the limited wine list, and excessive markup on wine (3.5x to 4x), which is out of touch and will be the kiss of death unless they get their pricing in line. Food is exceptional and worth the higher price. Beautiful space. Two months old, hope they expand the wine list (@ a reasonable markup), as this could be a gem for Troy Guard.
Excellent filet mignon and brussel sprouts. Love that there is a 4 oz option. Wine list was varied and good. Ambience is modern, upscale and gorgeous. One area for improvement is the valet service. It took forever for the valet employee to acknowledge us at arrival, to the point where other customers brought it to their attention so we could get service. It also took awhile for them to get our vehicle.
Amazing food with service to match. There are several dishes I could recommend but the gnocchi is something that is a must every single time. I will be back and will be recommending for personal and business outings.
Great overall experience, friendly staff
Great, exciting space. My wife loved her filet. My strip steak was a little disappointing compared to other steak places in Houston. The service was excellent and the restaurant layout and vibe provided an excellent location for our wedding anniversary. We will be back!
Great staff, great main dishes and a cool atmosphere.
The wait staff, including managers, could
Not have been better. Everyone was friendly and attentive. The interior is contemporary and has a nice “urban core” feel to it. We had three appetizers and all were very good ( smoked carrots , ribs, octopus ). The wine list was good and reasonably priced. I was a little disappointed in my NY strip. It was more like a medallion, not a NY strip. I think in Houston you may be better off serving a strip in the traditional manner. Over all it’s a little pricy but not outrageous. I would recommend trying the place out.
Dear Anonymous, Thank you so much for the compliments as well as the feedback! We can certainly raise the cut of the Strip with our culinary team and see their thoughts. We appreciate hearing from our guests and we need your feedback to keep working at making this the best Guard and Grace possible. So, Thank you, Thank you!
Giving this three stars for value, ambiance, and size of tables (and not food or service of which both were excellent) . Tables are wayyyy too small. Steaks and wine were good but there's just so much competition in this space now at a better price than what we had here. I could see this working in a market with little competition but I just didn't see the value there. Brussel sprouts were excellent, Mac and cheese meh. Lobster tail great steaks great.
Dear Anonymous, Thank you very much for the feedback on your experience. We can not make it better if we are unaware. Thank you for taking the time to write exacting notes. Value and value perception are intangibles we look at frequently and you are correct. In this market segment in such a large city there are tremendous options. Know we will work on making the ambience consistent and that Chef never takes his eye off of making our guest feel the value of what we do, we will do better.
Excellent food and service. This was my first time to eat here for lunch and I will come again.
too hot in the restaurant with the west sun shining through into my guests eyes. i imagine nighttime might be a better choice.
Lunch dining was very uncomfortable due to the sun coming in all of the large windows. The gentlemen with me were actually perspiring .
Food was good. A bit pricey for lunch.
Hi DonnaG, Thank you for letting us know how lunch went, we are listening! We are under way to find a shading/drapery/shielding solution. Please know we take our guests thoughts and feelings very seriously and I am very apologetic for the discomfort of the heat and sunshine in anyone's eyes. Anything we can do, please know we will. Sincerely, Andrew at Guard and Grace
Service and food was was great. Friendly staff and we were able to get in and out within one hour for lunch. Great place for business meetings or a date night.
Food, service, ambience, everything was 5 stars, perfect.
Had an amazing dinner and experience
, staff was great atmosphere was amazing, meal was deeeeelishous
Thank you to all at Guard and Grace and bring all of your other restaurants from your restaurant group to Houston
We need a little Denver in Houston
The food and service were awesome
Service could be more tentative. We were seated and the server didnt come back until 15-20 minutes later to take our order. I expected top notch rib eye for their price but instead receive well done steak with burnt edges. Crab cake, potatoes and brussel sprouts were best part of the meal.
Anonymous, Please accept my apologies for what was clearly a NYE meal gone wrong. I own these failures and apologize to you. I hope when you are comfortable and have time that we may speak of it and that I am allowed to mend a broken fence between us. I take no pride in missing the mark and staining a special day... My name is Andrew and I look forward to hopefully hearing from you. We can do better and I would like to redeem that statement. Wishing you well. Andrew 346-326-0789
New Year dinner and service was superb! A++
Excellent service and very good food and drinks. Would definitely recommend.
The food was impressive and the service was impeccable. We will be returning soon!
Great place and great food, the place is amazing in a very relaxed ambiance.Perfect spot for a dinner
Great food, slow service
Hi 84bw Thank you for the feedback and for giving us a try. Please know we want to be the absolute best we can be and can not do this without hearing from our guests. We can do better and will speed up our service. Appreciate you, Your Guard and Grace team
Food was great with the exception of the red fish being too spicy. Our steaks were cooked perfectly. Highly recommend the prosciutto plate for appetizer. Our server, Amanda was amazing! It was interesting to see people go through the kitchen to get to the restroom. We had a view of the kitchen from our table and they worked very well as a team to execute our meals. This is a great place for date night. I recommend asking for seating closer to window if you want a more intimate experience. I will definitely be back.
Service was awful. We were bought warm white wine and then never given a refill from the server.... the list goes on and on.
Dear Nourish and Delight, I apologize for what you received from us. That is a terrible representation and I apologize. Service at this level is not something that can be compromised on. Gladly the wine cellar temperature has been regulated and we have a wonderful director and team that are solely focused on providing you with the best we can offer. Please know that we can and will do better should you choose to allow us. I look forward to hearing your feedback. Andrew at 346-326-0789
Amazing staff very nice and informative....the food was delicious
We went there last Saturday night and found the food very good. The portions were small for the price. My waiter was a nice guy but the bar was slow. It took about 15 minutes to get the cocktails. Lots of competition in this segment and if you are looking for a steak look past this place. With that said I will definitely give this place a second chance
Awesome food and service.
Exceptional quality. Beautiful space.
I felt like I was in Vegas or NYC. A great edition to a cosmopolitan city !
May be my new favorite restaurant. Service was impeccable. The food was out of this world. Decor was stunning. 11/10
Dining room smelled fishy... music is too loud ... food is good but not great
Hi Fern, Thank you for the candid feedback. I appreciate it. We are working on making the food as great and consistent as we possibly can. The fishy smell I can not explain but I do know it does not exist anymore. We are definitely keeping better watch on the dining room lighting, sound and temperature. I look forward to hopefully meeting you in person and anything we can do, please do not hesitate to call on us.
A booth is never right for 6 people
Sun was awful in my eyes
Very hard to get to
Crab cake was excellent
Hi johnk, Thank you for taking time out to respond to us and give us the direct feedback we very much need to make things better. Apologies on the booth seating, we will make note to ask our guests moving forward if this would be a comfortable option. We are looking at appropriate drapery for the sun. We can monitor the music level more closely, it is energetic but should not be overbearing. Reviewing pricing and where we are is something we are looking at monthly. We appreciate you very much,
Troy Guard never disappoints. The food, atmosphere and staff were all beyond impressive
Recommend only out of convenience, otherwise over priced and under performing. Although I have only tasted a couple of menu items, which were acceptable, there was no way worth the price. I eat regularly at Steak 48 and Truluck's, I would rather spend that kind of money there than at Guard and Grace.
The place it’s very nice, perfect for romantic dinner but not necessary just for that. It’s elegant, food it’s great and service amazing.
Last Saturday was my second time in a month.
Great food, great ambience and great service.. You will absolutely love it.
