Grotto - Downtown Houston

Overall was fine just not much attention to table or even raising our special occasion as birthday was on Valentines Day...not one mention from the host or waiter and was seating in high traffic area 15ft from the front door.
Food was great, host and wait staff could be more accommodating as appetizer plates were empty and still on table when entree arrived making it a challenge to place the entree down.
Had an incredible meal! Wine list is amazing. Small plate fav was the Short rib gnocchi, the Skewers were also fantastic. Delish! For entree the Capra and Osso Bucco were perfection! Highly recommend this place. Can't wait to return!
Contemporary restaurant in the heart of downtown. Frequent the Galleria location, but there is no comparison and this will be my go to from this point forward. From the appetizers to main course, everything my wife and I ate burst with flavors. The wine list is extensive and fit our "by the glass" desire. Traffic is heavy, so if you have the option of taking an UBER or similar, my suggestion is to do so as parking can be a headache given the nature of the area.
The food was great! I loved the fettuccini Alfredo with chicken. We called ahead so that we could get our order quick, and that was very well accomidated
We ordered a few of the small plates just to get a variety and it was wonderful. Butternut tortellini, steak bites, ceasar salad, Calamari and Short Rib Gnocchi. They all were delish!
Great service and environment. The Lobster Bisque is a must try!
Valentines night and the atmosphere was perfect.
The place was amazing and quite easy to get there! I am so coming back soon!
Not a great service experience. Table seating location was poor also given we had a reservation for 6 and their were other nice table locations.
The service was fantastic from the hostess stand to the waiter. The food was really good as well I just wish that they had more healthier options. The noise lever was significant
love the food but this is the 3rd time i’ve come and been given an excuse for why there’s no pizza bread for the table.. not cool
Great atmosphere and food! Will definitely be back!
Excellent food, outstanding service (Nathalie is her name).
Great food, feats atmosphere. Service was very friendly and made great recommendations. Will come back again
Everyone really like me the food. Cool place inside too
We went there for a quick bite before a Dynamo game. The food was good (we got a wood-fired pizza, meatballs, and a salad), though the portions did seem a bit small for the price. That said, given the location and all things considered, we really enjoyed it. It's got a great, dark vibe too which would be perfect for a date night spot.
Nice tapas location with a wide mix of foods to choose from... Enjoyable food and enjoyable atmosphere for those looking for a relaxing meal
Went in for a bite after a concert and post-concert reception. I really appreciated that my server listened when I said I was hungry but not starving, and then was able to recommend an appropriately sized meal that satisfied my hunger without leaving me overstuffed. Very attentive, especially as I was dining alone on a Sunday evening. Would love to return for a full dinner at some point!
The hostesses were awkward and not really friendly. It took 20 minutes to get the wine we ordered. They brought the wrong glass the first time. They were out of two of the food items I tried to order. Overall it was very disappointing for the price.
We had a reservation for 6:30, arrived about 10 minutes early but the table wasn't available until about 7. The table was decent although it was near the kitchen entrance so a bit loud. The waiter quickly showed up and took our drink order, but after that he was pretty scarce. We didn't get the complimentary bread which was small pizza slices until we requested them and that took awhile to get and it was a very small portion. The waiter apologized and said they were running out because so many people ordered pizza that night which takes up oven space so that impacts them being able to cook enough of the complimentary pizza. The appetizer (fried calamari) arrived quickly and was really good. The food arrived and all of our meals were very small portions (we joked that maybe we should order a pizza to take back to our room since we will probably be hungry). We had an assortment of foods (5 of us) and two of us really liked the flavor. The other 3 were disappointed. Since we still had room for desert, we ordered an assortment plate plus the cookies and donuts. Nothing was that great of all those deserts.
We have stayed downtown for the Chevron marathon every year for the last 5 years and this is our first and last time to eat at Grotto. It always surprises me when a restaurant knows well in advance of a big event that will impact their business yet still not at all prepared?! On to the next one...
The restaurant was packed so service was a little slow but our waitress was great. Food, as always was amazing!
Great time with wife and grownup kids
The beef short ribs gnocchi is amazing
Great food, and didn’t take terribly long consider the busyness of the restaurant. Our server was not on his game at the beginning but he turned it around quickly. Would certainly come again.
Took my wife here for her birthday. The food was delicious, great drinks, and great service. Executive Chef Sean Hocstein personally came out to check on us and wish my wife happy birthday. We will definitely be back
Excellent food and service. Reminds us of a NYC environment!
We took some friends for dinner before a Broadway play and had a great time. The service and food were great, fun atmosphere. Our only "issue" was our waitress said she'd take care of the valet (it's usually comp'd with our Presidents Select club status). It was than added to our bill. A manager never came to the table (they usually do). We didn't have time to fight the parking charge as we were in a hurry to get out of the door. We will come back but the parking was a bit annoying.
Very nice location. Great ambiance. Great for date nights or for friends or before or after Astros games
We took our Daughter out for dinner before she spent her first night in a door room (and a College meal plan). It was the perfect place to have dinner. This Location has a very vibrate upscale vibe. The whole experience made her feel like a grown up with a bright future.
It was a great dinner. We had a bottle of Sangria and their chef board with meats, cheeses, and picked vegetables. It was a great dinner.
Food was fantastic! However, I thought it was a little overpriced when compared to the portion received. Overall very enjoyable restaurant. The noise level may be a little high for some people when the restaurant is filled up.
Simply great. Delicious on time.
Went for my daughters bday. She loved it and it’s a Really nice atmosphere.
Took my daughters here after we saw The Nutcracker. Food and service were amazing!
Enjoyed the food and ambience. Came for lunch and the pasta was done just right. Everyone at the table complimented the food. Only downside is service was slow and server not very knowledgeable. For the price point, can provide a much better overall experience for guests, especially given Xochi is an option nearly across the street.
Selected ‘special occasion’ and informed the hostess we were celebrating an engagement. Assumed that information would have provided a more intimate setting oppose to being seated in the cause way of the kitchen and center of restaurant.
Even with reservations, the wait was longer than expected. The hostess staff were over stretched with no organization which made seating guests difficult.
Love this place and the service is always great.
Great service and great food ! Definitely going back
Service and food was outstanding. The atmosphere was great and is a very relaxed dining experience. Do not be in a hurry here. Take you time, and enjoy all Grotto has to offer.
