Steakhouses come and go, especially in the current economic climate. Greystone Prime Steakhouse & Seafood is a 20-year staple in the Gaslamp, and after eating there for the first time yesterday evening I'm convinced it will be there for another couple decades.
My steak was over done. No lobster in lobster mac and cheese, but the flavor was good. Our table location was horrible. Too packed in and everytime someone walked by I was bumped and my coat and purse fell off the chair. Since our table was in path of travel to other tables I was bumped into every few minutes. No valet parking even though website states they offer it. I had to walk three blks in heels so my feet were hurting. Overall experience was poor. Do not plan on returning.
Our reservation along with many many other couples was at 8pm. We didn't get seated and had to wait outside in a line until 8:55pm. Everything took a very long time, but the 1 hour wait to get in even after having a reservation 1 month in advance was ridiculous.
Waited an hour and 15mins on valentines when our reservation was at 8pm. The server was extremely annoyed and acted as if no one could see his attitude. The food was not worth the price. Never going there again and would not recommend to anyone.
Ruined our night!! Trust me you don’t want me to write 50 characters or more. Changed plans just to attend your place and didn’t even get pass the front door with 8pm reservations.
Restaurant was nice and service was excellent but
There was absolutely no point in making a reservation. They didn't honor it and made me wait close to an hour after the time I had put down.
we had a 6:30 reservation, only to discover a line of people down the street, all with 6-630 reservations. Apparently they overbooked so much, seatings were over an hour past reservation times. Eventually we were convinced to go to the sister restaurant next door which had the same price fixe menu. We were seated right away, but then served an awful, tasteless meal of reheated salmon and some kind of green mush trying to pass as risotto.
The line was one the door. We made reservations at 6 and showed up at 550. the line was out the door and we didn't get sited until 652. Management didn't let anyone know what was going on and when ask to cancel and waive the cancelation fee, they refused. I understand that it was valentines day but to not let people cancel was more then a little upsetting. Management needs to learn how to run that business a little better. For them to be that backed up and not let people cancel was not the right thing. I will never be returning to this business.
Our FIRST time coming here and it’s Valentine’s Day....HIGHLY DONT RECOMMEND. I had reservations for 6pm and we weren’t seated until 6:45. We have a fixed menu for the evening and my husbands, as well as the gentleman RIGHT BESIDE US, both had their 20oz steak arrive COLD. It is supposed to be a two hour meal but here we are at 9:04 still trying to get our bill. MAYBE it’s because it’s Valentine’s Day....but still. For ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS A PLATE NOT INCLUDING DRINKS......I’m highly unimpressed and don’t recommend. I feel robbed, COMPLETELY.
Worst experience ever. They completely overbooked the place for Valentine’s Day. We arrived at 6 for our reservation and there was a line of maybe 30 people ahead of us. Management was nowhere to be found. Then when we finally got to the hostess stand at 6:30 we were told it would be another 30-40 minutes possibly before getting seated. We did choose a table out on the patio where they were just letting people in the waiting line stand there, blocking us from waiters.
I will never ever dine at Greystone again. They required a $30 deposit to make a reservation for Valentine’s Day, which I sort of understand. But when we arrived at our designated time of 6pm, we found that they had screwed up their entire reservation system and had severely overbooked. At least forty people were in line in front of us, all with reservations. We had to wait AN HOUR in line before even getting seated. When I told them about fifteen minutes into waiting that I was going to leave and wanted my $30 deposit returned, they said if I left they would keep my $30! What a sad way to run a business. They cannot run a reservation system properly and yet refused to let all of us out of our reservations. (I heard numerous other patrons in line complaining and wanting their deposits returned, to no avail.)
Then our steaks were undercooked but we were too aggravated to send them back and wait even longer. The entire night was a disaster. Never again.
My review only includes the check in process since we ended up cancelling the reservation last minute. Reason being, they made an oversight and overbooked the seating resulting in overlapping reservations leading to long wait times and delays making a lot of people who made reservations frustrated. We luckily found an open slot in another location nearby meaning we have to cancel and just absorbing the cancellation fee. I hope their management will take this as a lesson and make sure it doesn’t happen again. I would maybe go back and try again but maybe not for a very long time.
Found the steak and seafood excellent especially paired with the right sides. Waitress was very attentive and staff had no problem handling any and all request. Though it being Valentines Day and a bit chaotic everyone still seemed to move in harmony with taking care of their stations and tables along with helping each other out with theirs
Had a great time and it was a romantic night. Will be back again.
The dinner was fantastic. However, the pricing was very odd. I am a private chef and deal with exotic meats all the time. Also, some higher-end restaurants will discount glasses of wine to the price of a bottle when the customer goes way over, we were still charged by the glass. Overall great food, service, and atmosphere but extremely pricey. I would go back, just was a little discouraged.
The food was delicious but the service was terrible. We didn’t get check on the manger took our check book with out us even paying yet. We felt really pressured to leave bc it seemed like they wanted to turn around our table for other guest. Drink weren’t refilled and food came late. The server even took my dates salad plate mid chewing, with out asking if she was done. Which by the way she was not. If the food wasn’t soo good the place would not be worth the dining experience.
Food was great as always but the bartender was borderline rude.
Thank you again Greystone Steakhouse for always being on-top with your service and food.

Ate at the bar. Service was prompt. Bourbon Manhattan excellent. Rib eye steak in bone grilled to medium rare perfection. Attractive lay out.
If your looking for a Great Steakhouse in San Diego. Graystone Prime Steakhouse & Seafood is the place. A very nice upscale restaurant in the Gaslamp / Downtown area. The GM Sara and her staff are friendly with great service. The menu is great with a great selection of appetizers, salads, entrées, and great specialty drinks. So of my favorites are the Crab-cake, BLT Salad, Boar Sausage and Brussel Sprout and of course a filet. But was is Really Amazing Delicious is the Wagyu Beef. Had a wonderful dinner and evening out. Want a wonderful meal and time out Graystone's is the place.
Friends night out, party of 7 on a Sat night. Hostess and seating experience was perfect (we had a reservation). The bar has happy hour til 630pm and they allowed drinks to be taken to you table.
The restaurant decor is very nice, table layout is a little cramped but not too tight. Waitress and wait staff were all extremely attentive but not overbearing.
Food was amazing, multiple of us uttered words of "the best steak I've ever had" or "one of the best ever". You know they've done something right when many in your party agrees.
Prices are a tad high but very relative and can be subjective, so I guess they were somewhat reasonable.
Our party were on the loud side, borderline annoying if you're seating nearby as a couple on a romantic date looking for some peace and quiet. But the restaurant was very energetic so at times our voices were drown out anyway.
Overall, it was an awesome, exceptional experience. Definitely recommended and will certainly return!
We sat on the patio & were looking for a nice experience, but were judged due to your young age. We experienced instant disappointment when the server comment on our age. Joking that we were not of drinking age put us off buying any alcohol at all, he clearly gave better service to the more seasoned couples near us I’m sure because he believe the gratuity would be higher. On top of it the truffle Mac tasted below average no truffle flavor & not a single truffle in the dish. The orzo with the lamb chop dish was so salty it was not edible. Over all disappointing won’t be back unfortunately.
Great food, a lot of noise inside and some delay with service overall fine
Took 2.5 hours to get food. When it finally came it was cold, under or over cooked. Just terrible, and a bill for $5,500! Worst dining experience I’ve had.
I'd like to caveat this review by saying that I have friends who visited this restaurant the following day and had a great experience so I think I may have just be unfortunate.
Not once in my life have I ever turned food back, but I was looking forward to a nice medium-rare steak so much and when I receive a steak that was just a tad pink, it was with trepidation that I mentioned I wasn't too happy with it. To my relief, the waiter graciously took it back and I waited for my newly cooked steak. Unfortunately, the waiter came back, cut a piece in the middle, shined some light on it and asked "can I ask you if you think this isn't medium rare?". In my opinion, it was still just pink with no red in the middle so I politely disagreed. I felt awful being asked it and it did make me question why I even raised a fuss in the first place. I quickly Googled "medium rare steak". Maybe what I've known my whole life was wrong. But it still seemed different than what was in front of me.
Eventually and with some more miscommunications in between, they took it back and gave me what I believe was closer to a "medium rare steak".
It was tasty but by that time I was a little over it...
Overall, I am sure they can do better but for the price and for my experience, I dont believe I'll be coming back.
The waiter was pretty snooty. We asked didn't order drinks, and asked for the restaurant week menu. Immediately his whole demeanor changed. He was very distant, would only answer questions with one word (what is the soup of the day, "Broccoli" very brusquely without making eye contact). it was weird, never had this happen to me at restaurant. The Bison Filet was great, but the service killed it.
We went there for a date night during restaurant week. We got the filet and salmon with Brussel sprouts. The filet was so juicy and flavorful, same with the salmon. I highly recommend coming here for dinner.
Highly disappointed in service and especially our waiter (also the wine “director”). Was rude, short and didn’t provide remotely good service. Food was great though!
Vacation trip for my father 60th birthday. We made reservations weeks in advance. Absolutely worth it! The meats and seafood that were ordered were phenomenal the sides were okay. Will definitely go back again. The waiter was awesome!
Great ambiance as soon as we walked in. Was offered a drink at the bar while they got our table ready. Didn't wait for than 2 min. Bryan was our server and he was awesome! Suggested the best items on the menu and made me feel real special for my Birthday. Will DEFINITELY be back! Thank you!
I went there for restaurant week. Ordered oysters, ribeye steak, and lemon soft cake. Everything was amazing. I would highly recommend,
Absolutely fabulous dinner & service!!!... the entrees were both delicious and the service from Gabriel was exceptional!...We are definitely happy to have found such a wonderful restaurant on our vacation from NY!
The service was great my waiter was respectful, prompt and personable. The 22oz Ribeye with the cognac peppercorn topping was delicious. The Oysters were amazing as well as the Shrimp and Scallops. The Creme Brulee was one of the best I have ever had
Took out my SO here for a date night. The decor inside the building was very sleek and modern. They have an excellent drink menu and great food choices. We started with the seafood platter which came out excellently. We both ordered the Prime Filet cut and it was truly delicious. We will definitely be back!
The atmosphere is a chill, sleek vibe. The music is relaxing and entertaining.
I had the surf and turf plate. It was to die for. Everything paired so nicely.
I would recommend this place to anyone traveling the area
I cried it was beautiful. It was our anniversary
