I was disappointed at the level of attention and service from the waiter. He seemed disinterested in providing good service to our table even though he seemed energetic and attentive with other guests/tables. He forgot to bring small items several times, took a lot of time to check up on the table and was not much help. I considered not tipping the guy which I almost never do.
So disappointed, I liked this place and brought some friends from out of state to try it out. Not doing it again.
Had a reservation and took 30 minutes to get seated at a crappy table. We left. Told the concierge at our hotel not to recommend this place.
Cloying, frenetic service. Hostess declined to seat us at our reserved time despite many tables being free, and instead pushed us to the bar first for drinks. Food was fine, but ridiculously overpriced given the ambience, service, offering. Sides are a joke, both in quantity and presentation—not sufficient to be shared “for the table”; more of a side dish for one or two. Came home to find someone else’s leftovers in our to-go bag. The restaurant doesn’t answer their phone; when they do, the responses are curt and you’re cut off. Note corkage fee is $35/bottle. Treated a full-priced gift certificate as if it was a discounted coupon. Superior alternative dining options abound. Will never return.
Food was fair. Service was slow and the staff seemed hurried.
Over-rated and over-priced, poor services, presentations are good, food not fresh, busy and seemed popular, but I will not return.
Don’t let the looks fool you. We’ve been by this place a million times and although I knew it was a prime restaurant, we always thought it was a small place. Well, wait until you get inside. Ample area, two floors, just a great place. The service and food were fantastic, drinks were spot on and we greatly enjoyed our experience. Will do again
Food is okay but the servers is what you would expect from an Applebee’s. We were there for Valentine’s Day and while I understand it’s busy and of course understand some delays , I did not expect to have to wait 15min for someone to come to our table. No one even offered us water or a menu while we waited... I don’t usually leave reviews but considering the price I expected better...
The outback steak house had better steak and there not that good use to be excellent I guess they put the food that they want to get rid of on Valentine’s Day and the ceaser salad was like a fast food one
Very expensive and good but I would like to see more quantity with the portions
Food was good but service to kick off the evening was slow. Took almost 15 minutes to get menus and had to ask for bread.
Tell the waiters to turn down the high pressure sales. I don’t need the waiter over my shoulder every 10 min asking to open another $200 bottle of wine. Read the room a little better - everyones glass is full, and we are done eating - I think we are good.
My wife and I were there before and loved it . This time the food was average and the cost ridiculous We shared a salad and lobster lettuce wraps (could not find the lobster) . We each had one drink and we both had steak and shared 2 sides (spinach ,baked potatoe) and bread pudding for desert . 320.00 with tip . NEVER AGAIN. We sat upstairs and the noise level was so loud we had to scream to hear each other .
A very good experience for a steak dinner, very good food and excellent service.
Food was not worth the price. Decor was dated. Staff was nice but overbearing. This is really one of the most expensive restaurants I’ve been to in San Diego and after giving it a second chance I will not be returning.
Always an outstanding experience at Greystone! I only get to San Diego once or twice a year I make a point of coming here.
Celebrated daughters birthday. Had a great time. Everyone was helpful and great service. We will visit again.
Always a wonderful time.
Great overall dining experience! The crew did a fantastic job for my husband’s birthday and the food and drinks were amazing!
The dinning room is beautiful. I am gluten free and dairy free and the menu is very accommodating as well as the restaurant. I put in my reservation my gluten allergy and they made sure to mention it as I was sitting. My boyfriend had an old fashioned and they smoke the whiskey it smells delicious. I can’t wait to go back and try something different.
The food was exceptional. The staff was very attentive. The wine selection was great.
Made reservation for 6 at 8pm. No staff at the front desk to check in with. Had to wait at least 10 minutes to find a staff member to help us. We didn’t get seated till 50 minutes later. 2 of my friends ended up leaving due to babysitting issues. I understand it was Restaurant Week but they should’ve been more prepared, I think they overbooked. I got the calamari and prime petit filet, both delicious. The cheesecake on the other hand was out from the box, it was still frozen. Only 1 stall for the women’s bathroom & it was filthy. For a steakhouse that’s supposedly voted Top 5 in SD, I am disappointed. I’m thankful for the experience, never again. Thank you, next!
Too crowded for my tastes. I may have unreasonable expectations considering it is a gas lamp restaurant. If you reject tables, until you find one you like it will be a good experience. If your server can’t stand next to your table when anyone is walking by, it’s going to be like eating on a freeway.
We came for Restaurant week and made reservations weeks ago to dine here. We were sat at the top of the stairs right in the foot traffic which wasn’t ideal. The waiter handed us the menu and we noticed the restaurant week menu wasn’t in there and when we asked for it we were immediately treated like we were cheap. Once we ordered a $200 bottle of wine and added some lobster tails on the service came back around... The food was great. We started with the boar sausage and wedge salad then I had the filet and my husband had the ribeye, which oddly were the only two steak options on both Restaurant week menus at a steakhouse. My steak was cooked rare and not medium rare as requested but it was still great. We finished with cheesecake and lava cake and both were awesome. We’d likely come back but I think we’ll try other steakhouses before returning based purely off of the service when we first got there.
Went there on restaurant week so it was a very busy Friday night. Had t o wait 30 minutes despite having a reservation but they gave us some free wine as we stood in the bar area dodging waiters and staff. Had a nice table for two in the upper dining area which was great for people watching. Wow did their staff hustle. As soon as a table was open several of their team including gm and greeter would swoop in and have it reset in a minute. Fun to watch. Had to send back the bison as It came out too rare. It was very tasty and good texture. GM approached us to see how we were doing which was a nice touch. This place has been here 20 years and we have never heard of it despite dining out every Friday night. It was a nice find for an entertaining evening.
steak was the best. service was great as well. very attentive to our needs.
My steak was cooked to perfection. I’m very pleased and we had a great experience. We will be coming back
Attentive, unabtrusive service. The food was excellent.
The experience was grand. Food was incredible from apps to desert. Service was friendly and timely. Would highly recommend to others.
Fantastic meal! Ordered the bone-in filet medium rare - out of this world! The staff took excellent care of us and helped us celebrate a special birthday. Hospitality and server were terrific!
Food was delicious, my husband got a ribeye and I got a vegetarian dish (pasta diavolo). He thoroughly enjoyed husband his and I enjoyed mine. Service was also excellent, very attentive staff.
The food was good. After many guests left, our water started a training on their new servers!
He was really into the training, we did’t get much attention. Also, he was very loud when he was speaking to his trainees.
We had to ask another server to bring us the check after waiting for him for awhile.
I hope he realizes the reason he didn’t get a nice gratuity.
He seemed to show his trainees a wrong example.
My fiancé and I went to celebrate my 40th birthday and the staff at this restaurant made it an absolutely wonderful evening to remember! Robert, the bartender, started us off with some happy hour cocktails and the delicious portobello mushroom appetizer at the bar. We enjoyed our time with him before getting seated at our table for dinner. Our waiter Cannon was absolutely fantastic. He recommended a few sides once we told him what we were going to order as a main dish and made sure all of our needs were taken care of promptly. As a nice surprise, we were also treated to a complementary glass of sparkling wine and piece of their delicious chocolate mousse cake! Would absolutely recommend this place to locals!
Came here to relax and enjoy a great steak. Greystone did not disappoint. I would highly recommend coming here for a special occasion. The Server Ashley was very attentive and a great help with the extensive wine list.
It was busy New Year Eve. We made reservations for the restaurant. The food was excellent. The young hostess with beautiful black dress could have had better customer service skills especially with the people waiting for tables and they had reservations. Her responses were very short which made people feel like they made the wrong choice for the night. She basically just sent everyone to the bar. I felt like a manager should have been present to greet customers and assure them that they would be able to eat. Fortunately for me I am persistent and I talk to the young lady that was seating the customers. She ask me was I dining, I told her about the reservation and she took us to our seat at our original reservation time. I did not get her name but she was wearing all black with red top and black/red flapper head piece. She was very nice and made us feel OK about choosing the restaurant. The course selection for NYE were excellent. I enjoyed watching everyone get their food.
30 minute wait for the table, slow service, cold food! Understandable due to new years crowd but not for this level of restaurant.
We booked the Greystone after recommendations for NYE/our elopement dinner. The menu looked amazing. Everything was good, sat immediately, our server was fantastic. It was a fun party atmosphere for the holiday. However, we were VERY disappointed in the menu. It should have been conveyed during the making of the reservation that not only would the menu be limited, but it would also be set. Everything we were looking forward to was not available. We paid $200 for a dinner that may new Husband was only able to eat one course of because it was his only choice. Pretty disappointed.
Everything was great, except ironically the steaks, which were served a bit on the cool side. We were there on New Year's Eve, and I think they simply did a bot too much cooking ahead. We ended up taking them home and throwing them on the grill at home the next night, and they were fantastic.
As to the service, it was absolutely top notch. Very nice and attentive staff.
And the atmosphere is very cool.
The price you pay for the food here you would hope it’s outstanding, sadly ours was not. I ordered a filet and asked for medium well. It came out still pink and the beef was not tender at all. For $56 you would think it would melt in your mouth this one did not. It was warm to the touch when it arrived and not worth the money. My husband ordered the Surf and Turf which came with a choice of Wagu beef. He ordered the Australian New York and there again for $99 you would hope for tender and perfectly cooked. For ordering medium it came out closer to well done. Very chewy meat. We did mention it to our server and the manager did give us 30% off bill which was nice. Would not go back for the meat there but would for the Mac and cheese side which really was the only thing that tasted any good. Pictured are the burnt Brussel sprouts we also ordered.
My husband and I went for our 5th wedding anniversary. We were greeted with smiles that lasted the entire evening. Our waiter, Dennis, was superb and his knowledge of the product he was serving was very helpful to individuals that don’t go to fine dining restaurants often. I was very impressed that he knew champagne label we were drinking, which he brought us complimentary for our anniversary, without having to go back to the bar. The meal was incredible, melt in your mouth, food and the manager came to check on us a couple of times. I would definitely recommend Greystone to anyone who asks. Amazing food, amazing service and all over amazing anniversary dinner.
Waiters seemed rushed. Food was delicious but a bit overpriced. A little too crowded for my taste.
