Grappa

Grappa is a distilled spirit made from the "soul of the grape." Nothing could be more foreign to the American palate than Grappa, the Italian Brandy distilled from grape skins, stems, seeds & remaining juices left over from the winemaking process. By tradition Grappa is a poor man's drink & can pistol-whip the palate of the neophyte. Rustic, often fiery, it smells of hay, earth & God knows what else. Today, top winemakers & distillers from Italy, & the world over, artfully craft their Grappas, often distilling them from a single grape variety, or even a single variety from a single designated vineyard. Some are aged in oak from anywhere from six months to a year, possibly more. The result is a smoother, more insinuating product that can be downright elegant, while still retaining the spirit's primary characteristics. Grappa has intensity, a pristine quality & an underlying simplicity. It's strong, but it leaves the taste buds refreshed. Best enjoyed after a fabulous dinner!

We came twice to this restaurant. The first night without reservation and, nonetheless, the restaurant’s ground floor was totally empty we were said that they were fully booked. We booked for the next day since the reviews were high and ambience looked nice. Both of the time I have to mention that hostess was unpleasant. The food is not Italian it’s just heavy deep fried dishes that have Italian names. Dry, chewy, fried calamari in marinara sauce or deep fried eggplant parmigiana that even doesn’t taste anymore eggplant again with marinara sauce and rucola on top without Parmesan. We are Italians living in NYC and, in my opinion, in NYC this kind of food and service would barely have 3 stars. I wouldn’t recommend it neither we’ll be back.

Had a wonderful dinner at Grappa. Food was delicious. I had the salmon and my wife had the Boulonaise. Decorated lovely for Christmas as well. Will go back for sure.

If you like old style Italian comfort food, this is your place. However we found not a lot of innovation and creativity with the dishes. They are heavy and hard to digest. Too bad, given the the great reviews, we won’t be returning here. Over the top expensive for what it is.

Restaurant is warm and cozy. Food was delicious. Our waiter was young and very nice but he brought our app with our salad and didn't remove our dirty plates. Was very disappointed with that. Otherwise it was a very nice evenig.

The restaurant was empty, and the hostess crammed big tables and two small tables into a little area. We were all squashed, which made the sound not too good. But we were hoping to have a romantic dinner, not feeling like we were put into a clam shell there was no reason that I had to walk upstairs when there were plenty of places downstairs, the waiter was wonderful. Food was passable, but really no value. I don’t know why she continued to pack people in right after one would leave she would pack another so the one little area kept stayin crowded. . And the two big tables had two kids each thanking us they were well behaved. Lovely atmosphere, but the hostess was cold.

We loved our dinner at Grappa. Our waiter was so welcoming and funny, and took great care of us. The food was outstanding, especially the gnocchi. The portions are very generous and the flavors are delicious. It was a perfect evening.

Great old building that has been renovated. The lights where a bit too much but everything else was nice. The food was wonderful, the mushroom soup is to die for!! Taramisu was a bit odd but had good flavor.

The lighting in the restaurant is horrible-it is far too bright. There are lights shining down on you from every direction no matter where you sit. We started our dinner with a hair in my water glass! The food is very average. Service good.

It was very loud. We were a small table of four seated right next to two large tables of 10 and another table of eight. The food was mediocre. Not worth the price. The waiter’s shirt was quite dirty and he had to read the specials to us.
