The Grand ranks as one of the finest restaurants that we have experienced.
Perfect spot for a ladies brunch. Our table was decorated beautifully and the food was delicious.
Amazing food and exceptional staff. This is a very special venue that I would recommend to everyone. Nicely done Chef Malone !
Amazing!!! Already made reservations again for this weekend!
The food was delicious and beautifully presented. I loved the French omelet and mixed greens. It was cooked perfectly. My husband just thought the avocado toast was o.k., nothing special. My daughter had the yogurt and granola, and the banana bread, which I tasted - it was delicious. Honestly, the reason I didnt give it a higher rating is because the service was so slow. Our server and the hostess were nice enough, but it took a 1/2 hour for our food to come, and our server even apologized for the wait. At one point there were 5 empty tables, and a line at the door of at least 3 parties waiting to be seated. Not sure what the problem was? Their service has to catch up to the quality of their food.
Brunch was divine (lobster spaghetti, French omelette, ham and egg cocotte) and service was very kind, friendly and informative. Can't recommend Grand Cafe enough!
We had not eaten at Grand Cafe since its most recent change of ownership and kitchen staff. It's wonderful! The cuisine rivals the best places in the Twin Cities (we loved the seafood selection appetizer, the trout and chicken) and the service was stellar. Courses appeared and were removed before we had a chance to notice. We couldn't find fault with any part of the dinner. We'll be repeat customers.
We had not been to the "new" Grand Cafe but had heard of all the accolades. They did not disappoint us. It was a very memorable meal; all facets were done to the highest standard. We did the madelines with spinach salad and it was a perfect combination. I had read great reviews about the spinach salad and was a bit skeptical; how flavorful can a spinach salad be? Well, it can be very tasty it turns out. The hazelnuts and warm butter vinaigrette gave it this subtle, savory flavor. We also ordered up the foie gras mousse, which was everything we had hoped it would be. You spread it on their homemade sourdough, grilled bread, and it was really good. For entrees, we went with the Tasmanian Trout, and the Roasted Chicken; both were excellent. We were a bit hesitant to do the trout (always found that fish to be somewhat flavorless) but with the sauces and the perfect cook job, we were glad we went that route. We shared the bourbon infused cake for dessert and left the place quite full, and quite pleased. The wine suggested by our knowledgeable waiter, Jimmy, went perfectly with the meal. Jimmy was very proficient; great knowledge of all the menu items, including the wine and beer. Plus, he paced our meal perfectly. It wasn't a cheap evening, but this place is about as good as it gets, so you pay a price. It actually was reasonable when compared to similar experiences in other, bigger cities.
Everything was wonderful, just a little loud. Started with the grilled oysters and sweet corn madeleines. Both were delicious. Endive salad was wonderful. Several of us had the Tasmanian ocean trout which was very good—cooked perfectly. Beautiful presentation. The chilled seafood platter looked outstanding. The other entree enjoyed at our table was the poached egg. Finished the meal sharing the bourbon baba.
Best meal we've had in the Twin Cities in a long time.
Loved the duck special which we shared. Enjoyed the space and vibe. Thanks for a special evening.
Fantastic food and service. My daughter has some food allergies and the staff always does a beautiful job helping her to find great options for dinner. The Grand Cafe is one of our favorite places for dinner!!
Staff and service were incredible. Food exquisite. Loved the style of the space and presentation of each dish. Will definitely return!
The evening was extremely enjoyable as we sat in the front near the entrance and were immersed in all the comings and goings of the busy restaurant. The ambience shifted from bubbly to cozy as the sun set and the indoor lighting changed. We had a great view of the kitchen which was delightful! As for the food, excellent preparation, nice variety, pleasing presentation and the taste of all the dishes (poached eggs, crumpets and caviar, hazelnut shell vanilla ice cream, pike quenelle, endive salad with apple and cheddar) made for a most memorable experience. Both the simple and complicated dishes were done to perfection. I would rate this a top five all time.
Inconsistent experience. Some of the food was wonderful,(roast chicken, crab omelette , oysters)ome less so. (quenelles were over salted and some of the leeks were super tough. not edible) We waited a long time for the entrees and a couple were lukewarm, one side dish was omitted in error. Not sure if we will return.
I came in for a couple snacks and a glass of champagne and it was fabulous (like always). The raw Hokkaido scallops with pommes paillasson, soubise and dill is one of my favorite things on the menu.
I love everything about Grand Cafe. The space is lovely, the food is amazing and the staff are all so wonderful!
Our favorite restaurant came through for us again! Everything was perfect. Large groups can often be problematic, but it was a piece a cake for the Grand Café. Everything went so seamlessly, we felt like guests in a friend’s home. They even threw in an extra dessert that we didn’t think about, and it ended up being the favorite at the table. Baba, a bourbon soaked bread, topped with some orange zested chantilly whipped cream. The whole table was obsessing over. We all had a magical evening, and the guest of honor was blown away by the hospitality. They really bend over backwards for you at Grand Café. Highly recommended!
An absolutly great meal with appropriate wine pairings suggested by our server.
LOVED Grande Cafe! The best decor out of any place in the city, fun&inventive food, awesome service, great wine. Plus they were able to accommodate a gluten and dairy allergy, a feat for a French styled restaurant! Can’t wait to go back!
We had a wonderful brunch! From the time we walked in the door we were treated like we were the only people there even though they were very busy. From our apps....mussels, shrimp, and spinach salad with brown butter vin to all of our spectacular entree’s ham and cheese cocotte, eggs bennie and lobster spaghetti with brown butter and cognac sauce we all were in food heaven. Thanks to Jamie Malone and her fantastic team for what was one of the best dining experiences we have ever had!!
We loved the food. I had the King Crab with the omelette. It was outstanding. My wife had the chicken - also excellent. This was the first time we have been there and we will be back!!
This was our second time back and we brought some friends who were there for the first time. They were utterly impressed with the food and service and reiterated several times that this was by far their #1 gourmet experience in the city! What I love about the food at Grand Cafe is that every bite is an explosion flavors and each dish come with their own distinct taste experience. Our server Alice was very knowledgeable in all the dishes and had wonderful recommendations whenever we asked. Beautiful interior and details make the icing on the cake!
Spectacular as always. I was a little surprised at the fact that we spent $250 on a ‘normal’ dinner, tip included.
Our only disappointment was that the duck was Not available
Always a great experience when we dine here.
Great neighborhood gem!
Loved the food and the service was great! Try the trout dinner it was amazing.
Enjoyable. The only criticism is that the red wine was served chilled.
Beautiful, whimsical, delicious food, great wine list, and wonderful service. What else do you need?
I would and have recommended Grand Cafe to friends. Everyone raves about how good the service and the food are. We all love the charm of the restaurant, too. It is a wonderful place to get away from the busyness of life for a little while.
Yes its a great place with great ambience and staff.
Absolutely loved our Sunday brunch at Grand Cafe. We hosted a bridal shower brunch for 15 ladies and the staff was so helpful and accommodating! The atmosphere and decor are just cute. Food was fantastic. The only negative note, which really is just more of a suggestion, is the bathroom situation. 1 bathroom is not ideal, and its huge! Splitting that into to rooms would be a great benefit to customers.
10/10 recommend for brunch- just make a reservation!
This was my first time back since the new owner. I like the new decor and lighter feel to the place. The food wasn’t as good as I remember though and we seem to spend twice as much.
This meal was on par with La Belle Vie & better than Meritage. Meritage is good, but Grand Cafe's French cuisine has been taken to the next level by Chef Jamie Malone.
We began with the Sweet Corn Madeleines with whipped brown butter. My husband & I love corn bread but this corn bread was light & airy as opposed to the more dense version to which we are accustomed & wondered why no one has made corn bread in this manner before. The corn came through perfectly & the sweet flavor did not overwhelm. The brown butter was the perfect consistency & spread, well, like butter.
We then moved on to the Spinach Salad. How creative can a salad be? Well, the warm brown butter dressing took the standard spinach salad to another plane. It was not greasy nor did it overwhelm the spinach. All the flavors melded perfectly together & the hazelnuts & sun chokes were toasted to perfection to provide a nice crunchy texture.
Then came the Pike Quenelle. My husband & I often discuss how we could take dishes at a restaurant & try to replicate them at home. Not possible with this dish. The smooth texture of the quenelle, the beautiful sauce, the earthiness of the mushroom to cut through the richness & the brightness of the parsley all made for perfect bite after perfect bite.
Entrees next. My husband had the Roast Chicken where the skin was perfectly crispy, the meat tender & juicy & the sauce added a smoky intensity yet did not lose the chicken. The corn soufflé was divine & truly the only flaw if you have to be picky as it fell before it arrived our table.
I had the King Crab Stuffed Jidori Egg Omelet. I would typically not order breakfast for dinner in a French restaurant but read the reviews & had to try it. Light, fluffy, rich, briny, & delicious. The toast to sop up that beurre blanc was spot on.
Our server did an amazing job recommending wine with our entrees. The food, service &ambience were perfect for a date night. Will return again & again.
Food was great, service was great but you have a serious problem with ventilation. The smell of grease/butter/oil in dinning room was really really bad. You need to fix that.
We had to wait 30 minutes to be seated even though we had a reservation.
Food at Grand Cafe is consistently perfectly executed. We had the aged beef—it would serve 3 comfortably with a side or two; flavor is absolutely worth the price. Acoustics in the restaurant are a little challenging but the ambiance is otherwise lovely.
Wait staff was knowledgeable but service was extremely slow, and not because they were busy. We were maybe the last table in the restaurant and had to wait at least 20 minutes and ask for our check because the staff were all in the back room cleaning up and folding napkins. Had to wait a long time on front end to get drink order and drinks as welll.
The food was excellent - as was the wine. Since it was Monday we were able to order the larger tasting menu to split. It included many of the appetizers on the menu, every one creative and delicious - oysters on the half shell with 2 sauces, shrimp, raw scallop creation, sweet corn madeleines with wonderful whipped butter, smash cheeseburger, onion rings, spinach salad and a couple more. Yum! All were delicious. Service was pleasant and timely and the servers explained each dish as it came. The wine list was very good and competitively priced and the complimentary vermouth was a nice way to start. Desserts were small - just the right size to top off an excellent meal. Our table was very close to a table of four men, who were pretty loud and that took away from the ambiance.
Hello, The food was great, and the staff very professional. It is probably my age, and a pet peeve, but I would like to comfortably talk during dinner. The staff tried to find a quiet table, but the four of us were leaning forward, speaking loudly to converse. The food quality, staff, comfortable interior, and price point warrant, not a stuffy hushed noise level, but at least, an ability to communicate.
Fabulous ambience and service. The food was amazing.
