What Insiders Are Saying
Gramercy Tavern is an incredible restaurant. But you already know that. The bar is the move you want to make here, and you want to make it often.
Gramercy Tavern was an unbelievably warm, welcoming dining experience. My now fiancée and I had the seasonal and vegetarian tasting menu respectively, we explored some wonderful new tastes - and loved the wine pairings!
I hate to complain when we received a free dinner, but I am and we did. We were forgotten between courses which took ways way too long to deliver. Ready to leave by the time the entrees came, the manager comped our meal with great apologies for the mistake. Extremely pricey, they knew it was our anniversary dinner and gave us Champaign but apparently we weren’t important enough to be served in a timely manner. Don’t know if I’d give them another chance. Way too many other great NYC restaurants to choose from. Having the meal paid for at least helped not to completely ruin our night.
Soup was bland and tepid
Lamb was almost inedible.
I was shocked at how bad the food was.
The restaurant looked tired too.
Will not go back soon.
I wish that the servers didn't refill our water glasses quite so often. Otherwise: perfect.
I envy anyone who lives close enough to Gramercy Tavern (and has enough money in the bank) to eat there regularly. The atmosphere is attractive, the noise level civilized (especially if you go early), and the food reliably delicious.
Although our reservation was a late time slot , we found that we were rushed along and had to slow the pace down
Otherwise everything else was outstanding
Our server was extremely knowledgeable and a class act
Had not been here for a number of years. In fairness, my guest found our meal "memorable." I was disappointed that the tasting menu didn't offer options. I found the several courses effortfully inventive at the expense of flavor. The service is wonderful.
I have been going to Gramercy Tavern for pretty much every special occasion for over 20 years, and this last visit was the only one I recall where not one dish on the seasonal menu (tasting menu) made me moan. It was all good; very good, in fact, but that is below my expectations. I loved one of our servers (not the other, primary one), and we had to wait a bit for our cocktails (a first!).
We'll go back again and see if it pops back up to the level we have come to expect. But we were all a bit let down, and that makes me sad.
Just wow!!! I have dined at many restaurants in my life and Gramercy is right up there.
Great burger. Had a lovely lunch with great service.
Gramercy Tavern almost has the perfect formula, especially with 2 tasting menu options: One vegetarian and one conventional. The missed opportunity is when they "veganize" the vegetarian menu. That is, they remove non-vegan ingredients, as opposed to replacing them with vegan ones. This results in very mundane courses, bad value for $160 pp. Considering the size and growth of the vegan population in NYC, making this change would make this restaurant unparalleled in NYC.
I have been trying to get reservations for a long time and it was definitely worth the wait! Gramercy Tavern was very accommodating to our dietary needs and restrictions. They also offered flexible menu options and recommended which dining my husband and I could substitute. The cocktails were amazing and left with a nice buzz! We will definitely be going back 🤗
Absolutely fantastic food. Truly great. Attentive service. And so nice not to have to consider the tip.
The ambiance at the Gramercy Tavern is one that cannot be emulated.
Just amazing food with fabulous service! A NYC favorite.
The kitchen was delayed and we had to wait
More than an hour for lunch. We are not ones to complain but when we did the manager got in front of the issue ASAP. They took care of lunch and it was amazing.
the food is not bad, the service is OK, but this restaurant is way too much expensive for what it offers. The fixed price menu means, you have to chose between 4 choices and the selection consist of only cheap food. (the cheapest meat or fish). The food is ok, but far, far away from something special. And this restaurant is extremely overpriced for what it offers.
Perfect as always
Hands-down, the best service I’ve ever experienced. Everything was perfectly thought out and well-considered, and it’s clear why this place has been an institution for decades.
Superb food And wonderfully professional
Only negative is the minimum
Always wonderful - excellent service - food - ambiance. Get there as quickly and as often as possible.
It was an AMAZING lunch - everything from the crushed concord grape cocktails through dessert was perfect, and the service was fabulous. On a side note, I am now convinced that arugula makes everything taste better - they put it on my dessert and it kicked up the overall flavor to perfection.
The food was excellent as well as the service. The sommelier was a huge help in wine pairings and was very knowledgeable and let to a great experience.
Great! Really helped us have a memorable anniversary
It is everything it is supposed to be. The service is fantastic, the ambiance is refined and welcoming, the food is exquisite. A truly memorable dining experience.
Had the lunch tasting menu with the wine pairing; excellent food, great service, good value.
My partner and I could not have been more impressed with the level of attention and service we encountered. The food: Hands down, amazing! We will be back for sure!
Time between plates was to long.
Food, if you LOVE salt was great. Salt was the only thing you could taste. Otherwise food not memorable. Most expensive meal of our NYC trip and worst food. Not a good combo. Very, very slow service. The wait in between courses was unbelievable. We figured they wanted to make sure we drank lots of the overpriced wine. The restaurant is beautiful - very charming.
Gramercy never disappoints. Lovely service, great wine list. Loved the burger with onion rings. The cheese course is my favorite. Food here is exceptional, no matter what you orde!
Excellent food and service - older wealthy crowd but food was delicious
This was my third time at the GT and the second time in the dining room, all for lunch. I appreciate the imaginative food preparations and the interesting wine selections. For example, we were given a semi-sparkling Italian desert wine (Braida Brochette, d'Acqui) a wine I had never had before with our desert corse. This is one of the main reasons I come to the GT - to experience unusual pairings.
The values on wine by the bottle are not attractive, however. I see selections from my own seller that I bought at retail for less than 1/3 the price on the wine list. Since you are buying a less than retail, this looks like a huge markup. It pretty much keeps me from order any wine by the bottle.
We are moving to North Carolina. We have been to GT many times but wanted our last meal in NYC to be the best and so we headed for GT. They NEVER disappoint, from the nice selection of wines to a fabulous meal. Oysters briny, cold, and delicious, the pork schnitzel was tender and delicious, and burger as expected, but with the raclette chees topping it made it over the top. The cheese selection was also a treat. They never disappoint, wish I could already go back......
Was there for my bday dinner Friday night and the service was terrible. We had to flag down staff they didn't remember drinks and outside of my complementary cake failed to give us personalized menus which is literally what I wanted most. It's a shame
Comfortable upscale, would like to see more variety on menu. Atmosphere and staff are second to none.
We arrived at 8:20pm for an 8:30 reservation, were seated at 9:21pm. And really i don't mind so much if the bar area is accommodating, but its very tight and with people bumping into you every minute its annoying. Aside from that the food was ok...just ok.
The food and service were both very good. The price of the 6-course tasting menu and drinks are wildly overpriced. The atmosphere of the restaurant is a bit corporate. It does not have a unique identity.
Always special, Gramercy Tavern is my favorite and my standard in which I measure all other restaurants by. There may be others equally as good but I love the atmosphere, friendly service, seasonal flowers and decoration, if I could, I would go to dinner there every week. I Love Gramercy Tavern!!!!
If I could give this place a six-star service rating, I would. Rob took absolutely amazing care of us all evening; just superb service and attention to detail throughout the entire meal.
Oh and the food was astounding. So delicious, so simple.
Would return in a heartbeat.
