What Insiders Are Saying
Gramercy Tavern is an incredible restaurant. But you already know that. The bar is the move you want to make here, and you want to make it often.
Just wonderful in all respects. Kelsey is a gem!
Thanks to all for a great experience.
Sad to report that after many years going to GT standards have dropped. The food was Average at best on the seasonal menu. The duck was hit but the portion size was tiny. The pasta was sausage and clams a complete miss quality you get at a bad diner. As mentioned portion size are so tiny that my kids left starving - which make it expensive given the 184 for the pre set dinner. Hopefully a one off miss.
Great lunch! Delicious food! Kind service!
We are carnivores but look forward annually to the summer vegetable tasting menu. Chef Michael Anthony is known for his prowess with vegetables. The creativity and deliciousness of this tasting menu is testimony to his genius. Not to be missed!
Still remains one of the best! Food is phenomenal and service is fantastic.
The food was good (the chef likes it spicy), but ridiculously high prices for beer and wine by the glass, 3 - 5 Dollars more than Michelin three rosettes restaurant Le Bernadin; staff is strained, maybe because they do not get tips, that's why the prices for beverages are so high - they say.
I loved my evening at Gramercy Tavern! The food was incredible, and the service was terrific. My only critique was the noise level, but considering the architecture and room size it wasn't surprising that it got a little loud. On the upside, the general cacophony covered the borderline pornographic sounds I made while eating the tilefish course!!
Gramercy Tavern, since it’s inception, has been one of my favorite restaurants in NYC — the food is consistently superb and beautifully presented and the wait staff is friendly and professional. There’s never a feeling of being rushed. In one area, however, they’ve become like all others — the only service I require is fresh pepper and, when requested, a small pepper mill was placed on the table. i didn’t expect that; it was a big disappointment.
Our meal was overall very good but fell short of great. The highlight was a caramelized cheesecake with cherry sorbet and black sesame which was the perfect blend of sour and sweet and creamy and crunchy. The worst dish for us was the pasta. It looked great and tasted good for the first bite or two, but it's ultimately too salty and oily to finish the portion. The complementary birthday dessert was a nice touch.
The service was a well oiled machine in the sense that it worked very well. We were in and out in ninety minutes. But it wasn't particularly friendly or welcoming. Our waiter didn't give us any information and gave one word answers to questions. When our entrees were brought we were told here's the lamb and here's the pork and the guy walked away. I've seen waiters in diners prouder to present their dishes. Between our curt waiter and servers we really didn't know what we were eating and it didn't seem like anyone cared. Some menu choices were also odd -- why is there two bass dishes and no steak of any sort? The pacing was also off, we didn't get our drinks until after we finished our appetizers even though we ordered them first. We didn't get our drinks with dessert until after we finished dessert. In both cases we though the server forgot.
Anyway, overall this was a good experience but we had better service at Union Square Cafe and don't think we would come back soon when there are so many other choices in the city.
The service was superb and the 6 course tasting menu sublime.
Great service and very kid-friendly! Our family of toddlers had such great time there. Will definitely visit again!
The food was not as good as I would have expected. I have often been so impressed by a Danny Meyer restaurant that this did not measure up.
The wine list was amazing. This was the first place in the US we have found not one but two wines from the Canary Islands. What an amazing surprise! Also we requested a server who could speak Spanish since we were hosting guests from Spain and they were happy to accommodate this request. Such great service!
It was incredible! Thank you for the excellent hospitality!
Amazing. Simply put — Gramercy Tavern is the best overall restaurant in Manhattan (if not the United States). I cannot give a staff or a dining experience a higher rating.
Wonderful experience from start to finish. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding!
First rate food, service, ambiance. Quite a splurge but we plan to return.
A perfect evening. I was hosting relatives from out of town. They were blown away by their experience, and I was proud to have taken them here. The hospitality was genuine and warm while the service was impeccable. The culinary work was an utter delight on all three courses, and my guests raved about the delicate flavors. It was so lovely to leave a restaurant feeling well nourished instead of just stuffed. I will definitely be back!
We had the most amazing server. Sommelier was amazing as well!! Food was delicious. I wanted a bit more of taste bud tingling but it’s didn’t really go there. That being said the food was outstanding.
Amazing dinner, service and venue. Will definitely come back again soon, had the 3 course dinner and was really pleased.
Service and ambiance were top notch. Food was divine except for the char salad, which was overpriced and pedestrian. Could’ve made a tastier version at home. Otherwise, just lovely.
Always a pleasure to being visitors for a lovely lunch, great seafood, salads and impeccable service as well as a super wine list!
Negative thing: air conditioning too high - noise - terrible espresso.
All other very good.
Gramercy Tavern is on our list of favorite restaurants, has been for MANY years. This last visit was to the Main Dining Room and we had the 3-course option rather than the Tasting Menu. Food was incredibly delicious and beautiful, though the richness was a bit much for my stomach for the rest of the evening. The desserts were STUPENDOUS, especially the cheesecake. My only gripes are the noise level and a very opinionated server. We were at a round table of 6 which is fantastic! However, even at a round table the noise level is SO LOUD we could not all participate in one conversation easily. The energy of a busy restaurant certainly adds to the ambience, I do not like hushed and serious mood. But...this would make me reconsider coming back. Also...our lovely waitress was attentive, but when we asked for clarifications on menu items she was a bit TOO honest, and made her favorites seem like the ONLY choices to pick. I almost felt guilty ordering something she said was not her favorite. I certainly appreciate honestly, but I have to say this felt off-putting.
I do love the food there; with the tip already figured into the pricing, slow, bad service is difficult to express with tip. Usually, although slow service, I usually get what I request. Unfortunately, not this time and it was my birthday lunch !
Lunch prix-fixe with wine paring may the best value in New York. Kitchen happy to tweak vegetable tasting menu to suit vegans. Extremely attentive and generous service. Looking forward to returning.
Every course was prepared exceptionally well. Clean fresh tastes and their $36 burger was so good.
Everything was so lovely - from the amazing food, to quality of service, to overall ambiance. Thank you for making my mother’s birthday special!
We did the tasting menu with the wine pairing. It was superb. We had a wonderful waitress-Tony, who was helpful with recommendations. Expensive for sure, but worth it.
The food and service were fantastic. Truly a memorable night. The sommelier also made perfect suggestions for our taste and budget.
All excellent. The food and service were amazing. Also, since the last time we were here (we live in London), they have introduced a no-tipping policy, which is such a great idea. All in all, excellent.
Truly a unique dinning experience, always different with the seasonal tasting menu
Great service, a unique dining experience
We have been eating at Gramercy since the late 1990's. Never had a bad meal there. Had the tasting menu with the wine pairing. Real value for such a fine meal. No pretension and a low key atmosphere with fine dining service and food.
This place was perfect. I was looking for a great dinner before a show. This place impressed. The place was beautiful, the staff impeccable, and the food was to die for. Thank you Gramercy Tavern for a wonderful evening.
Excellent as always. We have been going since 2000 and they never disappoint.
Excellent service and food as well! Our server, Kelsey, took such good care of my friend and me. Will definitely recommend GT to others and come back again!
