Hark back to 1920’s Sydney and trace the steps of the chic elite. Among the bustle of the city, the iconic Gowings building was the place to be. Within these walls we’ve set the scene for fine dining drama. Australia’s freshest produce is on show amongst a century’s-worth of moody theatrical nostalgia.

Next to the State Theatre, Gowings Bar & Grill has made a grand entrance. A stately space reminiscent of a New York steakhouse with modern glitz and glamour. Big open-kitchen energy, wood-fired rotisseries and charcoal grills throwing out the heat. Hanging freshly-caught tuna are on grand display.

Peruse a seasonal menu where local produce is the star of the show. Sydney rock oysters, Petuna Ocean Trout, and Black Angus from NSW. Over 500 local and imported wines proudly poured.

The food was great to ok. We had King Fish Ceviche & Grilled King Prawns (Coconut Coriander Chilli & Lime) - both terrific & would have them again. For mains we looked forward to the bone in rib eye & the pork cutlet schnitzel. These were fine & by that I mean just a good pub meal, nice meat cooked well but nothing special. No complaints just a few levels lower than the entrees. The service (wine) was poor. Wine list incorrect (King Valley is in Vic not SA) & the waiter lacked knowledge.

For this visit we were all in favour of steak. They were perfectly cooked and superb pieces of beef. Plenty of acceptable sides to accompany. Excellent wine list from Australia and overseas. Ideal for business lunches, catch up with friends or special occasions. Great vibe.

A fabulous venue for a business lunch in the Sydney CBD. The food was superb and the quirky atmosphere and decor made this lunch a standout.

Last night there was a show on next door at the theatre so got manically busy - very short on staff and had to keep waving to waitress to get served, order taken, wine poured, and she had the nerve to turn round and tell us it was busy and we would have to wait having waited over 10 minutes to give our food order. Food was good when it came

We went because of the extensive wine list and all of us enjoyed excellent meals. The noise level was very conducive to easy conversation which was why we were there. The service ranged a little bit. It was mostly excellent but we had to work at catching the waitstaffs' eye as the night went on.
