WOW! How have we lived in Asheville and not experienced Golden Fleece until now? Go for the pimento cheese, sweet potato bourbon mash, steak, and the chocolate mousse!
We went right as the Coronavirus concerns were ramping up so business was extremely slow. The staff was attentive, kind, funny and very responsible with their cleaning schedule. 10/10 - would recommend!
Thank you for the kind words! We are so glad you found us, and look forward to serving you again.
One of my new favorites for lunch and dinner. The trio dip appetizer was delicious and perfect for two as was the Caesar Salad with fresh white anchovies on bib lettuce. The salmon was light and perfectly cooked. I’ve also had their flatbread pizza (enough for 2). Crispy crust and light. Nice cocktail and wine selection. I’m a fan.
We are so happy to have you as a fan!
Wonderful little restaurant.
Thank you for the kind words!
Everything was delightful!
Thank you for the review!
Our lunch for two was delightful! The friendly server knew the menu well, and explained items and made suggestions, when asked. We ordered entrees, but I noticed people at another table ordered and shared several menu items, which I would enjoy trying on my next visit. The charming and sun-lit room enhanced our overall positive experience!
We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed your dining experience at Golden Fleece!
AMAZING!!! We had the octopus, lamb chops, mushroom risotto, brussels sprouts, and olive oil chocolate mousse. Also ordered a bottle of wine. Everything was absolutely wonderful! Service was great and the restaurant is beautiful!
The food is amazing!
We are thrilled you enjoyed it!
Excellent restaurant for intimate chat or business discussion.
Went twice in one week. Great food. Have only been there for dinner. Some day we'll try another meal. Probably my favorite in town.
The Golden Fleece has a beautiful pub/winery feel surrounded by the Auto Museum, art sculptures, and fiber arts studio. The ambiance was romantic. We opted for Tapas which are lighter fare and were spectacular. Lamb in phyllo, grilled shrimp in olive oils and spices and tatziki sauce and pitas grilled for dipping were more than enough for 2 of us. Wonderful Ashville brewed beer started the evening and then a huge dessert followed- which we had room for since we went with Tapas! It has a Greek feel with the modern artistry of a world class chef. Bon Appetite!
The restaurant is super cute and cozy and the food is divine. I’ve never had shrimp cooked that perfectly! Find a reason to go and make sure you get one of their delicious cocktails and the braised lamb.
Consistently delicious, excellent service. Brussel sprouts, octopus, lamb, ribeye, salmon, olive oil mousse, to name a few of our favorite items. Charming and romantic. You can't go wrong here. Avoid downtown crazy. Plenty of parking.
Lovely decor, and a nice touch of quaintness. We enjoyed the overall experience very much!
This is the spot in Asheville! Very quaint and intimate setting. Great food and service. I ALWAYS recommend this place to friends traveling to the AVL area.
our major complaint was the entree. the rib eye steaks were tough and full of grizzle...not good as we are steak eaters and this quality of meat should not be served at a restaurant of this level.
Good day John, I personally apologise for the poor experience you had while dining with us. This is a first for us as we have never received a complaint about our Ribeyes. The quality of meat is Prime, approved and stamped by the USDA. Now, having ordered a medium steak and receiving a rare can definately set the mood for failure. Again i apologise for the poor execution and i take full responsibility as the chef. Please feel free to contact us at info@goldenfleeceasheville.c o m
A very relaxing, enjoyable dinner at The Golden Fleece.
Ambiance is amazing; seating comfortable, service wonderful, and food delicious.
Thank you so much for your review!
Wonderful dining experience
Thank you Debbi!
Quaint little place near grove park. Food was fantastic. Service amazing and ambiance inviting.
Great food and ambiance, very unique, quiet and an awesome place for dinner.
Thank you for your 5 star review Thomas!
It was a cute place, very relaxed, service was excellent & food was good too for the value. I would try again.
Fabulous! Our fave in AVL now
Will definitely eat here again!
Dinner with friends to celebrate a birthday. Everything was great!
Will not allow me to upload my review so I will upload the screen shot of what I originally had stated along with the picture of my ribeye that I received when I ordered lamb! O of course how convenient that it won’t upload anything again! I
Food was good. Service was five-star! Not that the restaurant has any control over this, but it is very hard to find. My GPS maps led me to a private home.
Retirement party
Absolutely charming!!! The rack of lamb and charred octopus were exquisite.
This was our first visit and we loved it in every way. It's adjacent to the Omni Grove Park Inn and some great shopping. Highly-recommended!
Refined dining experiences , perfect for catching up with old friends over a leisurely evening.
Thank you for the feedback Riesenschnauzer!
I’m not sure what went wrong last night but we waited for far too long for our side dishes and when we finally received them, they weren’t at all what they’ve been in the past.
We brought someone with us and raved about how wonderful the food was but last night was not at all what we’ve had in the past.
Dear guest, We appreciate the feedback and we feel extremely sad that your experience did not meet with your expectations, especially since you have dined with us before. We would love to make it up to you so please feel free to contact us at info@goldenfleeceasheville.co Thank you! Golden Fleece Management team
Food So Good It Will Make You Cry
This eccentric little restaurant is a perfect place to take a break from the grind of daily life (and parenthood). My beautiful daughter has been such a hardworking mom for the past 3 years I thought the best gift I could give her for her birthday was a respite from the ordinary and a reminder that all things are still possible. The atmosphere, the attentive service and the lovingly prepared food at the Golden Fleece created just the right vehicle for escape.
A trio of Savory spreads (yellow pea hummus, tzitziki and one other I don’t have a name for) served with warm, freshly made pita complemented artisan cocktails and started the meal off on the right foot. We followed with their unique interpretation of a Caesar salad - lighter and brighter than the traditional, yum! When my daughter’s octopus entree and my lamb phyllo envelopes arrived - both beautifully presented - the delicious aromas had our mouths watering before our first bite.
For a culinary academy graduate and foodie (my daughter) who has been making Mac n’ cheese more than mornay for the last few baby years, the first bite of savory, melt-in-your-mouth octopus (yes! Octopus that tender!) did her in. Quiet tears of joy slid down her cheeks. Transportation to a little world outside the ordinary was complete, Birthday gift delivered.
Dear Sally, You could have easily won Best Review Award 2020 with this one! WoW! We are extremely pleased you and your daughter enjoyed your experience with us! I would love to personally meet you if you visit us again! George D. Exec. Chef Golden Fleece
Our new favorite place for lunch!
Not up to its usual standard. Service and main courses were impersonal, somewhat rushed and nothing like we have experienced at Golden Fleece in the past. It was like we had stepped into an "alter version" of the restaurant.
There are better culinary options in Asheville but it was convenient to the Grove Park Inn and less expensive than the VUE. We only ate there one time. The staff was very helpful and the service was good.
Dear Brice, Thank you for your feedback even if you dont think we are the best! Hope to see you again for a second time in the future! Thank you The Golden Fleece team
Have had dinner here several times. Took friends who were visiting from Manhattan for NYE. Everything was great for the most part, but the service was super rushed and frenzied (understandably because of NYE — we know this is not the norm), and the olive oil cake was essentially a brick. Nobody ate it, but we had a good laugh. Everyone was full at that point anyway. The other courses were wonderful, and our friends had a positive experience overall.
Dear guest, Thank you for your feedback! we are glad you enjoyed most of your experience with us and we are terribly sorry for your Olive oil Cake. It does get better with time! Thank you The Golden Fleece Team
We’ve dined on New Years Eve two years back- found it disappointing. Decided with fix menu to give it another chance - with another couple, It was worse. Lobster bisque- room temperature- odd courses: ice cream cone with rabbit stuffed inside served with a separate dish of tuna carpaccio- no taste - all served at the same time- it was ridiculous- two plates per person shoved on at once - come on! Our server (Lori) was incredibly surly and unprofessional. Bad food can be salvaged by a good server- but with both encounters leaves me very unlikely to go back anytime- and you’re my neighbors!
Great experience! Food was amazing and atmosphere was delightful!! Will definitely add this stop as a not miss for all future Asheville visits.
We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed it! Can't wait to see you on your next visit to Asheville!
Fixed price limited menu items were very disappointing. All of it.
We had a fixed menu for Christmas Eve and honestly it just wasn’t impressive. When an entire menu is pre-planned and the kitchen is making the same thing for everyone, the quality should really be excellent. This was mediocre flavor, low presentation value, and my prime rib was cold. The dessert was a bland, dry bread with ice cream. And the dishes were brought out before we’d finished what we already had. It just felt like they wanted us out as quickly as possible. It was $55/person and really I feel like they were just taking advantage of the holiday and not delivering quality that justified the price point.
The atmosphere is lovely though, and the cocktails were delicious.
One of the gyros ordered was full of fat and when we brought it to the servers attention he said, oh sorry to hear that. And walked away. We did not see him again until he brought us the check. He did not remove the plate or offer to get her anything else. The Brussels sprouts were amazing and the GF burger were very good though.
When we got the check the bad gyro was still listed. I brought it to his attention and his response was, I told the hostess to gather the plates and see how much of it you ate. Since you ate less than half I guess I can remove it from your check.
So he admitted that he did nothing to help the situation and instead kept the gross gyro there to test us to see if it really was too bad to eat.
He never tried to make the situation better. Honestly don’t see myself going back there again. And definitely not going to recommend it to friends anymore when they come to visit.
