Girl & the Goat
Located at 809 W Randolph, Girl & the Goat was one of the first establishments in the Randolph Restaurant Corridor. We offer a variety of seating choices, including a comfortable lounge, bar seats, standard table seating, and four seats close enough to the kitchen line that you might be asked to help. Girl & the Goat accepts reservations but always welcomes walk-ins, nomads, adventurers, and those of you who don’t like to plan.
What Insiders Are Saying
One of the most well known restaurants in Chicago, and one that lives up to the hype.
Girl & the Goat has the most amazing menu. Everything we had, from the goat liver mousse to the roasted cauliflower to the wood oven roasted pig face was beyond delicious. Our server was fantastic, friendly and knowledgeable. We can't recommend Girl & the Goat highly enough.
Very nice workers
The food is really good but the portions are too small for the prices.
Amazing all around we will be back, when we visit Chicago again in November.
Husband’s birthday dinner - sat at the chef’s table without even requesting. We were given a free dish and dessert. Service was above and beyond to make my husband happy on his special day! Every dish we tried was very flavorful as well.
Never disappoints, amazing meal!!!
This was out first visit and it was wonderful. Every plate of food was delicious (the halibut was so good we ordered it twice). The service was seamless as plates arrived and disappeared. It was a memorable meal and great experience, ihighly recommend!
Made reservations with 2 week advance and we were sited on a shared table in front of the kitchen; had to make the point to be relocated.
Dishes recommended to be shared but small portions for one people itself.
At the end bill came high vs experience!
Great interesting food and fun place to eat! Nice place to meet up with friends and colleagues!
Very nice place but the plates are really small even for sharing. Also over priced for the amount of food. But the food is tasty. Not a restaurant for hungry people.
Out for a girls dinner and I was beyond impressed with everyone’s knowledge of the menu. 2 of my friends are pregnant and one has a seafood allergy. The server had cheese put on the side of one dish because it was unpasteurized and made sure the seafood allergy would not interfere with any other selections. Such an excellent restaurant. And the food was beyond incredible.
Food was subpar! Not worth the hype!
I really enjoyed the atmosphere, very high energy. The bread was delicious and liked the choice of spreads. Ordered the broccoli & the cauliflower and both were delicious bursting with flavor. Finally, I tried the goat empanadas. The empanadas were a bit too crispy but I was surprised that the goat was very tasty and flavorful.
The food is truly outstanding, very innovative and daring!
Goat empanadas were great. I love shared plates, too. The cocktails delivered on their flavors, too. Service was very prompt. Worth the off-hours reservation.
Love the vibe of the place. Cocktails were unusual concoctions which stretched and delighted our taste and smell senses. We ordered the branzino which came whole, deboned. I would've preferred the broth served on the side, or better yet, the fish served grilled, simple with the spice stuffing. Olive foccacio was the best we've tasted. Shared the cauliflower which was our table favorite; spent some time wondering about the base for the sauce - to my delight, I found the recipe later on Stephanie Izard's recipe site. The other dish we had was the short ribs. I didn't taste it but was told it was tender, and the sauce delightful.
Overall, great social meeting spot for some casual eats. Prices were reasonable. My only detractor would be that the dishes were overly salted; some restraint would've made them quite perfect.
A pesar de tener una reservación nos intentaron sentar en una barra frente a los cocineros, tuvimos que protestar y luego nos sentaron en una mesa, luego todo fue muy bien meseros muy amables y comida muy original y deliciosa
Great food and service. Highly recommend the pork shank and the short ribs. We had a party of 3 and we were squished into a small today, but besides that great experience.
We had a fun and romantic time enjoying a series of delicious plates as they were brought out in sequence. As they came out, each plate was a fun opportunity to taste new things, enjoy the exploration together, and steer the conversation in different directions. Everything was great but the halibut was out of this world.
The waitress told me we got "the best seats in the house". She sat us at counter by food service/preparation area. Although it was neat to see the food prepped, I would've preferred a regular table.
Loved the lamb, pigface and scallops-the roasted beet salad was just ok . The shishoto peppers were good- if we go back I would choose different dishes
The food was absolutely amazing. Their gluten-free menu was also amazing (and was almost identical to the non gluten-free menu).
Chefs table is the place to be!
I had VERY high expectations for this place. After all, we visited from DC to Chicago just for a little bit of food-tour of this city. This is going to be long, so sit back and be prepared for an honest review.
First off, Girl and the Goat was VERYYYY loud, tables were tightly packed together (so much that the person sitting next to me elbowed me a few times...UGH!), and music seemed like blaring horns. And when everything is loud, literally everyone has no choice but to scream on top of their voices to make whoever you came with hear what you are saying. We could barely even hear our server. It's almost like a loud dive bar.
We made a reservation for 10pm and got seated around 10:30pm. This place was a mad-house with no place to stand in the wait area. Servers/people were flying by constantly. To have to wait in the middle of all movement for 30 mins after making a reservation was the biggest disappointment.
As for food, it was mediocre and don't expect to be blown away. You get tapas style shareable plates that are just okay. I felt like the plates could have been better with slight modifications, e.g. a little less salt, or less acid or little less richness in some dishes would have made the dishes perfect. EVERY single thing that we got, except the dessert, was flawed and took away from the food experience. We got - pan fried shishito peppers, chickpea fritter, spiced shrimp, pan roasted halibut, goat empanadas, miso caramel soaked sponge cake. And all of this is NOT CHEAP. Did it satisfy the price we paid? - Nope! I would have gotten better food off of a food truck.
Very disappointing and we do not recommend this place unless you like REALLY loud places serving pricey but mediocre food. I does not live up to the hype.
Fabulous food and service; noise painful
The complete dining experience at Girl and the Goat was amazing! The food is so creative and delicious. We absolutely loved every dish that we ordered and the service was fantastic.
Everything was so good. Our server was very kind. The environment was perfect. Can't wait to go back.
It was a wonderful experience, the only inconvenience was too much tables together.
Great place to enjoy fine cuisine
Original small plates for share and try different flavors.
Amazing food! Fun staff! Worth the trip to Chicago! Definitely coming back!
Great sharing dishes, unique flavor combinations.
It was delicious. However, it is very noisy and hard to hear conversations.
Have dined at GnG several times and it never disappoints. Crispy pork shank, shishito peppers are a must order!
Went and reserved a table 2 months ahead, with a note requesting a high chair for my little one. they called 2 days prior to confirm the reservation was still valid. Then off we go on a Thursday evening, me and my wife and 2 girls went 10 minutes earlier at 620pm and they were ready with our table, high chair already setup. Food was good, overall portion was a little smaller than expected. Glad we order the pork shank and that one filled us up at last. Finally they surprised us with a nice small treat for our anniversary. Hint: you could order half size veggie dishes to try more of it.
Really great food and decently sized portions and good value for the trendy experience
Although the food was outstanding, the delivery of the food was very rushed.
If I am going to pay that much for a celebratory meal I would like to savor it.
The bus people were trying to take our dishes before we were even done.
Why do we rush our dinner experiences in America?
The food was amazing and very creative. Chef Izard was amazing and her staff was very fun and engaging. Woukd highly recommend it.
