Mussels appetizer was delicious. Rigatoni with chick peas was yummy and so flavorful. The strawberry rhubarb eclair and sorbet knocked it out of the park!!

Great location near Wooster Square. Managers were very good about checking in on us. Waitress was quite pleasant but oddly unfocused and disorganized, like it was her first week. Great cocktail menu and cocktails. Food menu had good range and variety, but the food was not all that flavorful (and I say that as someone who usually thinks restaurants overdo it, especially salt). Their square pizza is puffier than a Chicago style pizza—the flavor of the topping getting lost in too much dough. I would not return.

Wow - excellent food! Best meal I've had in a long time...including Los Angeles, NYC and Miami. We ordered three appetizers and three entrees to share and everything was fantastic.

Our first time at Gioia, after just about everyone we know recommending it, we left asking ourselves, "What took us so long?" The dining room space was large, roomy and wonderfully modern chic. The service was as good as anywhere else we can think of in New Haven. The menu was traditional Italian for the pasta and entrees, but for the snacks, appetizers and small plates, wonderfully more interesting and creative. As for the food itself, delicious! Really well done!

Gioia delivered a fantastic experience all around for our Mother’s Day dinner. We were greeted promptly by the hostess, who quickly found our reservation and wished my wife a happy Mother’s Day as we were seated—a thoughtful touch that set the tone. Our server was attentive throughout the meal, and the manager even stopped by to introduce himself. The appetizers—mussels, meatballs, and romanesco—were excellent. For entrées, the salmon, hanger steak, and truffle gnocchi were all delicious, and the kitchen kindly accommodated our youngest daughter with a custom plate of cacio e pepe. We wrapped up with dessert at the gelateria and even brought home a few treats from the Gioia Marketplace. Thanks, Gioia— We’ll be back soon!

Description on menu didn’t own up to the food on the plate. Poached eggs were undercooked. Description “salad” on menu but only lettuce greens on plate. Waffle barely had fresh fruit on top of it. Burrata on sour bread toast described on menu, I received 1/4 of burrata. The cocktails were unimpressive! Poor presentation.
