Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
Great setting, traditional Chicago steak house, lots of charm with a greAt atmosphere. Cuts of meat outstanding and the service was excellent. Well worth a visit. Be warned if you have room for desert they are large and you may want to share. All round excellent !
2 dined on Saturday evening at Gibson’s. One of us was celebrating a 51st birthday. One ordered a doz oysters, house salad, and porterhouse and the other ordered the shrimp cocktail, house salad and sea bass. We shared the giant white beans and hash browns sides. Everything, I mean everything, was absolutely delicious! I do not usually or easily use superlatives in describing my dining experiences. Maybe it’s because I’m not often impressed, esp at high-end restaurants. However, Gibsons met and surpassed the challenge. The steak and sea bad were each tender, cooked correctly and very tasty.
The sides were high quality and delicious.
The service was impeccable. Kudos and many thanks to Gregory and staff for excellent customer service...all truly service professionals. Friendly, pleasant, happy, helpful...they made us enjoy ourselves and our Gibson’s experience.
Do yourself a favor. Go somewhere where you know you will actually enjoy a night (or day) out. You deserve the best. Go to Gibson’s. A++.
I live in Chicago and many times people tell me Gibson is mainly for tourists and you might think this has a meaning in quality but actually I could not agree more to say this is the best steak I have eaten so far in Chicago, great service and nice atmosphere
While the new hamburger we tried was delicious, we were very disapoointed with the Caesar salads, which had a small puddle of water at the bottom of each bowl, and tasted ... well, tasteless! Very little cheese, dressing watered down completely, and not even the HINT of the taste of anchovies let alone the appearance of one. Awful. Very unusual, as I've ordered this before without these problems.
And then the prime rib sandwich! Horseradish sauce had the consistency of water and a very weird taste, and a couple tomato slices were added as well, so that the sandwich was soggy and didn't taste good at all. Removed the meat, scraped away everything inside the roll, then returned the meat and ate itvthat way. Much better! At least you could taste the prime rib, which tasted like it could just as easily have been a veggie burger before before we eliminated the filling.
The service was stellar tho ... as always.
Gibson's had the most flavorful steak of all the big Chicago steakhouses that I have been to. Our Chicago cut bone-in ribeyes were preceded by a hearty bread basket and we paired the steaks with charred rapini and the twice-baked potatoes. The steaks were fantastic, the greens were fresh and sweet, and the potatoes were well-done yet a bit boring in comparison. Desserts were enormous, but more spectacle than substance.
New Years Eve dinner 6 people. We were seated ahead of our reservation in the up stairs dinning room. The food was on par with Gibson’s reputation. However, we had the unfortunate experience of a waiter with a arrogant and sarcastic attitude. Our first Gibson’s dining experience *** stars.
We celebrated an anniversary with our kids at Gibson
The garbage salad was excellent but a bit heavy on the dressing (ask for it on the side). They corked a bottle of wine for us for $30 Reasonable but if you bring a bottle it cannot be part of their list. The lobster while good was not its usual succulent taste and the New York strip had a bit too much marbling than I have come to expect. The waitress was fabulous
Waiter was very inattentive which was actually a positive because he was dismissive and rather surly when he did grace us with his presence. We were celebrating a birthday which I noted on the reservation but our waiter did not acknowledge. He didn’t engage in any of the typical pleasantries one would expect at a high end restaurant. Just came and went. We saw the staff gather at other tables for celebrations which looked fun. Those tables were obviously being served by one of the professional waiters at Gibson’s. It was our third visit this year but not in a hurry to go back.
Everything was excellent! The food is fantastic and our server was amazing! He recommended a great bottle of wine that fit in our budget (we told him around 150$), he recommended a 99$ bottle which paired so well with our meal while being well under our budget. Will be back soon!!
The staff was very attentive and seemed genuinely concerned when my steak knife broke in half. Waiter commented that he had not seen that happen in the three years he had been working there. They comped a round of drinks, desert, and gave us 2 steak knifes so we will never forget. Enjoyed the food and the whole experience.
My parents came into town to celebrate my birthday. I easily made reservations for the 3 of us for 7:30pm on a Thursday night. We got there a little early but only waited about 15 mins before being seated.
Our waiter was extremely tentative and friendly. The bread they serve was delicious and as a whole my family ate bread fanatics. We ordered the shrimp cocktail as an appetizer. They were phenomenal. I would go back just for the shrimp. Two of us got the 7 oz filet special at medium rare, they were cooked perfectly and served with a very generous portion of mashed potatoes and broccolini. The third entree was a New York sirloin cooked medium, it was extremely juicy and delicious. The sirloin came with a house salad which wasn’t anything out of the ordinary but good and added a baked potato on the side which was just as big as the steak. Needless to say we were all extremely full even with a generous amount of leftovers.
I booked the table and listed the reason for going as a birthday, at the end of our meal our waiter delivered a hot fudge sundae on the house which was also unreal!
We’ve been to Morton’s, Ruth’s Chris, and St. Elmo’s in Indianapolis but I think Gibson’s takes the cake in terms of the filet mignon.
Another wonderful time sharing laughter and drinks with my family. The food service and staff always impeccable. My highlight is Lloyd the piano player who I’ve known for about 30 years now. Love his energy smiles and talent. Love singing with him. Happy New Year Open Table and Gibson’s.
Overtime we visit Chicago we dine at Gibson's, everything from the service - food - ambiance is fantastic. It is always a great experience and a great value. Dinner in the restaurant is fantastic; we also make sure to have lunch in the Bar area, a must while you visit.
Waitress and busboy were way to quick to get us out of the restaurant.
Reached over us to get plates- happened several times.
I leaned back in my chair for a few seconds and it was assumed I was finished eating. Barely put the fork down and the busboy took the plate when I was done.
The filet mignon was way to dark (almost burned).
